Transparency doesn't exist on this forum. In any case, yeah, third-party support better be stronger this time around for the Rev. A survival horror game with a gun in one hand and a flashlight in the other would be pretty cool.

Actually, this is true. I take back my previous comments on Oblivion having no cool characters.
-
I'm not really sure I want to babysit Alyx for most of the game, though. She was the most boring character in HL2 vanilla. lol chick

After Morrowind, I would have said they'd have no chance of making a remotely competent FO3. After Oblivion, I'd say they at least have *some* potential to possible making an interesting game. I don't buy that 'too many NPCs, can't infuse awesomeness into any of them'. For a professional product, it's a pathetic excuse. Bethie can hire Patrick Steward and Boromir, but they can't invest time into the main story to actually, like, make it compelling? There are two possibilities here. 1) They had some people working full-time on the main story, but they were mediocre writers/designers. This would not bode well. 2) They pulled a NWN1 and either did the main story at the last minute or never gave it much importance in the first place.

BREAKING NEWS: FIRST REVOLUTION SCREENSHOTS
Llyranor replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
Red Steel is a first person shooter themed around the Japanese yakuza. The player has both pistols and swords at his disposal, which are of course aimed with the Revolution's motion-sensing freehand controller. The attached "nunchuk" analog controller is used for movement. Since the controller senses movement in all directions as well as rotation along an axis, the player can, for example, rotate his wrist to actually rotate the gun at an angle within the game, or bring the sword up at an angle to block an enemy's sword stroke. Grenades can be thrown by imitating a lobbing motion with the controller. There will also be benefits in sparing the lives of key enemies after a fight in order to convince them to join your side, rather than killing them outright. Ubisoft's Damien Moret explained that before even beginning work with a development kit, the team spent a great deal of time playing around with regular television remotes to determine what physical actions are the most fun to perform and which would best suit a first person shooter. The game will have multiplayer via split-screen or online, but since Nintendo has not yet announced its online service plans for Revolution no further details were revealed. Ubisoft has stated that more about the game will be revealed soon, but for now either pick up this month's Game Informer or wait until E3. In more general Revolution news, Nintendo's George Harrison mentioned in a Game Informer interview that the console will likely have about twenty launch titles, with a third coming from Nintendo. -
Well, come to think of it, I guess this guy was memorable http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1216213971004625060

See, if you prove your awesomeness by screwing the company over while you're running the show, he's bound to give you a raise.

I did take it a bit too literally, but I must still be easy to please then...my fav. NPC list is probably huge by now. And his dialogue was awkward, to be sure, but wasn't what I'd call "terrible". There's a fine line between mediocre and "terrible". Bethesda tends to walk this line often...but they always make sure to inch their way back toward the former. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In a professional product, that fine line doesn't really matter.

Did metadigital just admit to being Hades' alt?
-
Hmm, replaying HL2 to see if it convinces me to get Ep1 or not.
-
This will bring roleplaying from WoW to a whole new level! Yar yar hump hump!
-
Why are you quoting me, infidel?
-
HL2Ep1 needs freaking coop. COOP. Stupid Valve.

What new games are you looking forward to?
Llyranor replied to Haitoku's topic in Computer and Console
Let's see.... RPGs - Neverwinter Nights 2 - Pretty much at the top of the list. First off, MCA. Second, NWN seems like it'll be improving the toolset in virtually every possible way. Modding will pretty much take most of my gaming time once this is out. - Tactica Online - PvP turn-based tactical 'RPG'. From reading the gameplay mechanics on the website, it sounds like a winner. - Dragon Age - While Bioware's previous titles might have been a tad too mainstream (leading them to being unremarkable, perhaps), they've kept producing solid titles. Hopefully, DA will be a step above. 4 full-time writers is quite a nice move from Bio. - Gothic III - Playing G1 right now, with G2 waiting just after. Quite impressed. I find G1's world much more 'alive' than Oblivion tried to be. - Bioshock - After Oblivion kinda flopped in the emergent gameplay side of things, it'll be interesting to see how Bioshock fares. Granted, I haven't played SS2. FPS - Armed Assault - Successor to Operation Flashpoint. That is all. - Half-Life 2: Episode 1 - Hmmm, undecided. Wargames - Take Command: 2nd Manassas - Pretty awesome American Civil War wargame, from the demo. Despite having no interest in the setting, the gameplay alone just made this a must-buy. - Combat Mission: Shock Force - The WeGo system is very nice for uncompromised large-scale tactics. PBEM should be fun. - Navies at War - Most ambitious naval simulator ever sounds cool. - HistWar: Les Grognards - Napoleonean game with up to 500,000 units (represented by 50,000 for a 1:10 ratio) with proper Orders of Battle, Command & Control, doctrines. - Europa Universalis III - If HoI2 is any indication, this is as good as bought. RTS - Supreme Commander - Though I'm losing interest in RTS and leaning more towards wargames, this will probably make for a fun coop campaign. Probably not something I'd play longterm, though. - Sins of a Solar Empire - RT4X sounds ambitious, but I'm wondering if the gameplay will bring it above the RTS genre (which I'm pretty much getting fed up with) as a whole. A big part of mainstream gaming is getting boring. I'm looking more into indie and more obscure developers who don't compromise their gameplay for the lowest common denominator. -
I've finished the game and can't recall a single remotely memorable character. Except for Boromir, for the mere fact that he was Boromir. Anyone else would have been irrelevant.

Aww, isn't it sweet how Hades has become more open-minded? Don't you feel so much better about yourself now?

BREAKING NEWS: FIRST REVOLUTION SCREENSHOTS
Llyranor replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
I'm much more likely to end up getting a Rev than any of the other consoles. There just needs to be some must-buy titles announced first. -
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/07/red-stee...reens-revealed/ Looks nice. Pretty cool how the player can tilt the controller and tilt the gun at the same time. Maybe not very smart, but cool nevertheless.

And you will buy Fallout 3.
-
Fallout 3 is going to get rave reviews like Oblivion is whether or not it lives up to 'Fallout'. You'll try to resist at first, but then all the positive impressions will be hitting up. You'll give and buy the Collector's Edition. This is *known* to you.
-
Haha, looks like someone's going to be buying Fallout 3.
-
A no-brainer a year ago, perhaps, but I'm not sure I'd have enjoyed HL2 as much had I played it these days.
-
I'm glad you bought the game ^_^
-
I'm trying to assess whether 20 bucks for 4-6 hrs will be worth it. Though, then again, it's HL2, a game I was quite impressed with (my favorite action-based straight-out FPS). More condensed content could do it some good. Hmm. HMMMMM. It's kinda stupid that it comes bundled with HL2DM and HL1:S-DM, one of which I already have and the other which I could care less about. You can argue that they're bonuses, but I'd rather have the game at a discount price.
-
Yeah, upon furthering pondering, I won't be getting this game. HL2 Ep1's fate remains undecided.
