The dialogue wheel is much more a "BioWare" specific thing than an EA thing. We do it for both of our games because there's a variety of advantages in doing so. There'd be little reason for Obsidian to adopt it, and less of a reason for EA to require it. The level of influence EA would have on KOTOR 3's direction would be more heavily influenced by the types of dollars they were looking on investing. That is, Obsidian's pitch and direction would need to provide reasonable assurances that the game is going to be sufficiently profitable. I don't know if the "some level of post release support" mandate that Gibeau spoke about refers to EA Partners games, though I suspect there'd be some level of risk mitigation if Obsidian had some sort of DLC component as part of their proposal anyways, which would increase any projects chances of getting (additional) funding. Given that Obsidian had very successful DLC with FONV, and Urquhart seemed keen on DLC post release monetization in the talk he had (sharing the stage with Ray Muzyka) anyways, so I doubt that that would be a significant barrier.

Not that I know of, but I expect there to be some level of change with JR on the outs (I also don't know exactly what the "EA Partners" is and what it means to be a part of it). I'm not sure how that will necessarily affect things, though I would expect an Obsidian Star Wars RPG to still be a long shot regardless. In any case, if Obsidian were interested in making one, at this point they'd have to go through EA, so hopefully an arrangement can be made.

I, perhaps paradoxically, think that a KOTOR 3 would have had greater chance of being made had TOR been a runaway success, since it could be viewed as ancillary and complementary to a big TOR machine, with the two feeding off each other in some capacity. There's a large gap of time between KOTOR 2 and TOR that could have been filled. I'd certainly like to see Obsidian getting another crack at it, however. The biggest issue, I would imagine, would be financing. EA would have to also be interested in ponying up the money, and I am not sure if they'd be keen on a smaller scale game (which I assume is what Obsidian would do, compared to the other bigger budgeted affairs).

I wonder if this would just mean that Obsidian would need to talk with EA. "Agreement to develop and publish new games"

That one definitely seems to be the most obvious fit.

Chris Roberts' interview about crowdfunding, with numbers
alanschu replied to Cultist's topic in Computer and Console
It's not that surprising that the backers are over 25 years old. I wouldn't be surprised if the median age of Mass Effect's customers was somewhere close to the mid 20s as well. -
Totally making a Warhammer game my next run through of GameDev Tycoon (I did a 35 year one and got 75 million points. Cross Genres for the win!)

Yeah that seems like the most obvious pairing with respect to Battlefront 3. Though we're going to need a new way of condensing the name as BF3 will just get confusing! Good to see the Visceral guys get to finish off what they started. Hopefully they haven't lost too much. I am curious if BioWare "continues" to work on Star Wars will mean anything more than just TOR. Although I know part of the reason for new IPs was the flexibility, but at the same time I am getting the impression that Disney will be much less discerning on a lot of things compared to George Lucas.

Picked up Tomb Raider on the Steam sale, and so far am enjoying it quite a bit!

No no no. Option 1: I would be so humbly honored to serve Option 2: I want to be a demon Option 3: I do this to spite you Option 2 is typically the bizarre one, not option 3. Option 3 is the "agree, but in a more scowly way." Disappoint

Yeah, by the sounds of it he was hoodwinked into thinking it was a good investment. A page of Epic Fail, but that's in the past and now we just have to deal with it.

ME3 and "we can do better" of course!

It's better known for blatantly ripping off StarCraft!

The relationship thing I am *much* more accepting of, as being a valid criticism. (Blame BG2... they tossed it in on a whim and it was an absurdly resounding success). I'm not really a fan of most romances in games either, but I just shake my head that the specificity of a lot of complaints extends beyond simply ANY romances, but rather the *gay* romances specifically.
-
The comments made me laugh. I do find it interesting that the first order of complaint many seemed to have is that we'd include homosexual relationships. Surely that's not the principle reason we're evil!?

So I learned today that my Dad was a maroon and acquired a Timeshare a few years back. I'm currently doing some reading up on timeshares in general to figure out how the eff one can clean it up. I don't know the full details at this moment (I just heard having a dinner with my Mom, and my Dad was out). I'll see if I can get more information tomorrow, but I am curious if anyone has any insights on it. I'm sure there is more information than I know of, but all I know right now is that they are on the hook for some sort of "maintenance fee." I'll need to learn about what other types of costs they may have at this moment. I heard my Dad contacted someone to help sell it, but my limited reading indicates that this sort of crap is usually a giant ripoff. So I'm going to have to phone him up tomorrow and get the rest of the details. General gist I have read up on seems to be that using some sort of agency to help you get out of it is a huge waste of money. They've had it for like 2-3 years or so now, so any rescission period would have long since expired. So between having to go smack my Dad upside the head, I figured I'd ask some reputable individuals with a decent amount of OCD that would be willing to help me find information. Cheers! Allan

If you want to play the game, wouldn't you be doing a better job of demonstrating that the preorder bonus is a bad idea if you bought the game, sans preorder bonus?
-
I see. Not a single type of person that he finds irritating about people that want to be game developers? If I'm going to believe somebody, they better not talk out of their bum! Oh well, lessons learned!

Yeah I am intrigued. I know there's some level of disappointment/outrage, though Kotaku (!!!!!!!?!?!??!) comments were quite supportive. I'm afraid. Very afraid... >_>

Well good to know from some random blogger I don't know why anyone would imagine otherwise though. There are some that talk up a sort of "us vs. them" mentality. Though I don't have any direct references off hand.

I don't know if this was ever mentioned here. Found it interesting: http://kotaku.com/star-command-is-a-great-game-but-also-a-kickstarter-wa-486606094

How AAA devs view indies http://devfodder.blogspot.ca/2013/04/the-truth-about-how-aaa-developers-view.html

It has its addictive charm. I never played Game Dev Story, but I hear it is quite similar. This one has the advantage of being runnable on Windows, so I actually can play it. I think it cost me $8, and I'd definitely say I got my $8 worth.
