You're ignoring opportunity costs. Why spend the time and money making a game that will provide a profit in 4 years, when you can just put it into a mutual fund and make more money? Long term profit is only profit in the eyes of an accountant, and only when looking at cost of production vs revenue of sales. And if Interplay needed instant big hit money, then Planescape: Torment was definitely a failure.

Except that an Army in Siberia is still 3 turns away from being a serious threat to Turkey. It does make a land invasion of Turkey more plausible however.

If it take 4 years to make a profit though, is it successful?

Actually that is roughly about right. 4-6 weeks. Half-Life 2 went gold on October 18th, a full 29 days before being released. 6 weeks is probably the upper end, but I'm pretty sure I've seen it before.

I think a lot of Selanne's recent production "issues" came from being like 7th man on the totem pole while in Colorado. He was still a 30 goal scorer in San Jose. But with no red line, and hopefully less obstruction with the smaller goalie equipment, I think he has the possibility of doing quite well. It is a gamble, but for only a million I think he's worth it. Who knows, maybe he'll pull out a 76 goal season :D

I think Teemu for 1 million isn't actually a bad deal. If we adhere to the rule changes, he still has some quickness and has fantastic hands. A one shot scorer to be sure. Rob Niedermeyer? Well, that was a way to circumvent the cap and sign Scott Niedermeyer for 9 million EDIT: Wow, Hossa for Heatley.

Because people ARE NOT objective. When they first play KOTOR, they are like "OMFG W0WZ0Rs!!!!" Even if the sequel is better in EVERY way, people will still consider the reaction they got from the first experience of something unlike anything else, to the extension of that. Because of their previous experience with KOTOR, KOTOR 2 would have to be lightyears ahead of KOTOR 1 in order to illicit the same "w0w0w0w0w0w" effect. But because people did not get that effect, they compare the lesser "wow" with the "w0w0w0w0w0w" and draw the conclusion that the original is the best. EDIT: Regarding head gear, if it doesn't look good, you don't need to wear it.

I would think that they will make KOTORs past #3, they just won't be related.

Something funky going on there. My Bloodlines ran fine, although there did seem to be a memory leak with prolonged playing. Restarting the game solved the problem however. Meh.
