I didn't mind the blood effects during combat (I hardly notice them), but after several conversations with people where I was all bloodied up from the splatter, I found myself turning off the blood on character models. Though I guess someone modded it so that it doesn't go onto the face (which was the distracting part for me), which would be No. In fact the bulk of my healing potions were simply looted. Even my first playthrough, the only potions I made in any quantity were the weakest ones. I think at best I learned the next level of healing potion, but couldn't be bothered to consistently buy the materials to make it. Most of my potion making came early game, but once I had two mages capable of casting a healing spell (and Wynne as a spirit healer) the game became easy enough that my need for healing potions was pretty much gone.

As Monte Carlo mentioned, it was an in game depiction of the Sacred Ashes trailer. I personally don't mind the music either.

Lol at jagdpanzer hull (surely you mean the Jagdpanther though? ) reference.

Indeed. Wonderful holiday built upon the decimation and exploitation of the native american peoples... ermm wait.. Thanks for ruining a thread where folks were expressing their thanks for one another. What a ray of sunshine! So you rather we forget and just sweep under the rug what we did the native americans. Because histroy shows forgetting/covering over your past (mistakes or otherwise) always works out when moving forward... Just because you wish to look the other way does not make the facts any less. Sorry to be the stick in the mud, but I call it like I see it. Appologizes if they shatters your little bubble of this holiday nothing more then singing songs holding hands. Perhaps if you were like me and worked with a tribe and see the ills first hand you'd have a better appreciation then your tunnel vision, sweep under the rug attitude. You didn't call it like you see it, because Thanksgiving is not at all built upon the decimation and exploitation of American peoples. Your commentary is irrelevant with respect to Thanksgiving, which is literally just giving thanks to God for bountiful harvests. Even if you include the "first thanksgiving," it most definitely wasn't built upon the exploitation and decimation of native american peoples. Your commentary was to start ****, but based purely on grasping at straws.

I thought this was a well done video:

I disagree. We may have differing expectations of what it means to be "effective" but my 2H warrior build that I am playing through has largely been me sticking to my 2H warrior the entire time. That doesn't excuse they way they implemented it though. I guarantee this is not the case. I've done it.

I agree with this. Anyone that wants to play the game only controlling their main character pretty much has to take party tactics. It existed before I got there and since it was already in the game, I knew they weren't going to bother taking it out with the PC version finished. Having said that, outside of combat training for rogues/warriors, I think most skills are not particularly necessary. I had 3 or 4 points of herbalism on one character, but never bothered to really learn any higher level potions, nor bothered to collect materials for making them. Poisons I started out getting, but ultimately didn't care for them either. By the end of the game I was dumping points into survival simply because it at least gave me some persistent benefits. Abilities like crafting and poisons may be more necessary on higher difficulty levels, but it's pretty easy to beat the game without them on normal difficulty.

I did mention why, and I said it was disappointing they didn't build on that further. It's not a great reason, but it is the reason. Right now all it does is make each class slightly distinct, but with no real benefit for it. This is probably also the reason for how attribute points are allocated. People of a particular class/race combo are likely cued to go a certain way based on what the authors wanted for the lore of the game. Unfortunately all it really does is annoy those that feel it's a wasted point.
-
Yeah it's unfortunate that there's a dedicated skill point allocated. I think the idea was to give each race a bit of flavour with their backgrounds, though it unfortunately wasn't exploited enough IMO. Having said that, I don't consider them restrictive. If you absolutely must min/max then it'll bother you, but any particular spec is more than viable. The 2H specialist I made recently was still a human noble, and while I may be "missing" one talent, I don't consider him weak or gimped or any word like that at all. I've gone 2 points strength, 1 point willpower every level, and always have indomitable on (and add powerful swings once I spend some stamina) and I have been smashing faces in pretty well.

It makes sense that they didn't, as the combat control style very closely follows Baldur's Gate. It worked fine then, and DA is supposed to be a spiritual successor to BG. Edit: And apparently the last post on page 1 is not the last post in the thread. Whoops.

Print Screen to take a picture, now found in your BioWare folder. Simply add them ass attachments to posts. (sorry I didn't respond to you in CoH, I was watching a replay and the game wouldn't let me chat back)

I'm curious exactly what you think you're trying to say here.

I enjoyed the combat enough to 3 star (batarang?) each of the combat challenges. And after that, I went back to beat my high scores in them

What difficulty level are you playing at? I went through Redcliffe on Normal with me (rogue), Alistair, Morrigan, and Leliana, and near as I can tell I don't remember losing anyone specific (yes some militia fell but hey, it's war). Even if I did, it didn't have any real impact on the game if someone did die, as far as it looks to me. The encounters don't all scale evenly, but the only one I know of that is scaled higher is Orzammar. I usually do Broken Circle first though, to get the attribute bonuses as quickly as possible. Having said that, each area does scale, as Redcliffe is more than possible as your first target. YMMV on higher difficulty levels though.

Steam is the same way.
-
Heh, you're insulted because numbers man joked about people not getting a Stanley Kubrick reference?
-
Steam is awesome My friend and I chat with it while our games of CoH are loading ;P
-
Depending on how it's made, competitors might not want it. Some games have Steamworks built in (using a variety of Steam's services for free and whatnot), and competitors don't want to stock that. It's also possible competitors don't WANT to supply the game.

Unless you've been a part of a software development team, you have no idea what you're talking about. What you think you know, is wrong. Face it sister, you're ignorant to the situation. You just see it, make stupid assumptions, and are just wrong. It's your MO.

Sorry, you're wrong. No matter how much you think you're right. Go back to making alt-moderator accounts so you can argue with yourself.

Not surprisingly, I figured you'd draw incorrect conclusions.

Then you run into the issue of suddenly spending a lot of time on a system, for increasingly diminishing returns. The changes you suggest are stuff that'd be best decided early in the project (early being a fairly figurative term, since I have no idea what the process for Dragon Age has been given its unusually long development time). I know there's the clique of gamers that are firm believers in "more options more options more options," but in reality it's not just as simple as adding more options. Of all the issues related to DA, this one seems pretty minor IMO. Given my experience with games like Diablo 2 and even BG2 after TOB, I found it so natural that I didn't even think twice about it.
-
Are there other options aside from always displaying the text?
-
I didn't see that obviously.
