Sounds like what I expected, thanks. Although the game seems to have a lot more dungeon-grinding left in it, I haven't really found any 'special' items indicative of the highest levels.

Okay, question for mkreku and other players who've gotten forward: I'm level 20, and I'm at the following junctures: Pretty much explored about 30-40 dungeons. I like the DB/Thief quests especially, but it's all falling a bit routine. To be expected? Or is there anything round the corner. I may wait for some good mods to restart and get a properly designed character going.

Yeah, now copy that for me, except replace level 10 with 13, and balde skill of 44 with blade skill of 20. Eventually got through though. Then lucien lachance visited me when I slept in the Kvatch castle bed.

How did you regret the Purification? Everyone there was so disgustingly nice, Lucien Lachance was good (albeit with VO sometimes being a letdown, but thats excusable), then I go to the place and bam, it felt like I was in a fluffy pillows shop with all the love, really killed the atmosphere. Ocheeva had no personality and neither did Te-something. Actually, if they weren't quest-givers I could never tell them apart.

What the crap? That makes no sense. BG2 had a crapload of NPCs, for example, and it had NPCs that were a lot more fleshed out, and which were generaly more liked. (Even if you didn't like their character, they had a lot more personality than TES ones.) Besides, if being as big as TES means everywhere the people are diluted to robots, they should rethink their design policy. Thoronir was more interesting than most other TES characters. He sort of felt short when you discovered Agarmir's role in the plot though, his dialogue, his voice acting, and the fact that he just sat there and still sold stuff just didn't convince that he really cared (or noticed) where his goods came from. It just felt like getting a Kill X quest from him, the quest was nevertheless interesting but not the character.

I haven't got a single 5 on my first character, currently level 20. Maybe I got one and I don't remember it. I just block out the bonuses and pick the ones I like, even Luck - Endurance a few times once Irealised I died in about 2 Clannfear hits (kvatch), Strength once those Elven / Dwarvens started dropping and I needed money for my enchanted items, etc. Sometimes you can block these things out easily, sometimes the invitation is so blatant to you that it feels weirder to resist. Like the 13/15/17 thing in most IE games.

I learned about Fargoth during the Morrowind release / pre-release hype. Then my computer was too crap to run the game, and 2-3 years later when I did play I had forgotten about him. Then I played the game, and forgot about him. Then when Oblivion was hyped I remembered Fargoth since everybody started talking about him. Fargoth's Quest may have been the best scripted in the whole game but the character was still dead. Nobody has any personality at all, and the mages guild especially - the Telvanni actually had the bare beginnings of personality (you can see it now in the design doc: Telvanni 3: Crazy Old W(B)itch), I haven't talked to Traven much yet but Raminus is a robot, Julienne Fanis is a robot, everyone's a robot.

Actually, not a warhammer. We're looking at either a giant Sephiroth Katana or an AK-47.

Then when we meet a talking deathclaw in the underground levels of a nuclear power plant with lava and ****, we can coerce, joke, admire and boast to it so that it will tell us about a book that was the Deathclaw Family Heirloom and he'd really like to get it back for a hundred caps. Then we backstab him with a warhammer, place the deathclaws in a sex orgy position via havoc and dance.

Realism isn't even an issue. The horses are just crap. Anyone who likes the horses actually enjoys the IDEA of horses, and will take any on-screen manifestation of that wonderfully super-imagined idea and heap love on it. Besides, horses aren't that much faster, and it's kind of silly for Oblivion because everything is so close together. And it doesn't look that bad. Now Morrowind could have used horses, frickin' ugly and everything is miles away.

The Thief sign, perhaps. I started with 60 luck and now it's 63 or something, I sometimes dump that 1 point on it during levelups. High Elf, Sign of the Thief, Willpower / Agility, Level 19 Major Skills: -> Alteration -> Conjuration -> Destruction -> Illusion -> Marksman -> Sneak -> Speechcraft No screenie with character at the moment, I played third person in morrowind but combat is just too crappy in Oblivion on 3rd. Besides, I'm getting used to it. The face is okay, except the dungeon lighting meant it's really really pale.

Scaling.
Oh, wait. So Charm isn't like D&D Charm, it's like D&D Friends spell? .....buggers. Well the Command spells are useless unless you have super-high illusion, which I would garner you somehow gain by casting "Command Level 2 Creatures" all the time. Anyway, the game seems to devolve into a familiar Do Quests / Do Dungeons, come back to spend 5000 gold recharging magical equipment, have some money left over for other stuff. The Dark Brotherhood quests are really nice though, and some of the others.
