Perhaps my analysis differs because I did not like JE very much, but here's my take: JE was a fairly 'good' game as in above mediocre, but without that spark of excellence. As such, I felt that its length was appropriate - any shorter and it would not have felt like a campaign / journey / progress at all, any longer and it would have been exposed of its shallowness (esp. combat, which *was* good, but failed to develop well). But then, if I loved JE I guess I would think differently. Anyway, times: -> JE: 12-15 hours, I remember because I did it in one sitting. I have high standards for VO and didn't feel the need to listen to JE's, which was mostly mediocre: and I'm a fast reader. That will have cut at least an hour or two off the final time, I think. I reloaded a few times after some early fights, but after that it was easy, and I didn't get stuck much. No walkthroughs, and I did do some sidequests, and make char. dialogues. -> KOTOR2: ~30 hours. I pretty much did *everything*, but I liked the game a lot. I believe I milked every single piece of dialogue possible from companions, as well. Not many reloads at all with super-easy combat, of course. No walkthroughs. Again, I don't wait for VOs when I finish reading. The thing with KOTOR2 is that when you play it, you are surprised by just how *tiny* some of the planets are (Korriban is just two dungeons, for example) but when you are just thinking about its length on the fly you think "X Planets". Malakor was short too, unless you had the Remote kill every monster in its path or something. Still, if NWN2 is around that long, I will be satisfied, if not ecstatic. -> Just for some perspective: 60 hours to finish +100 quests, 3 guilds, MQ, many random dungeons in Oblivion: 20-30 hours for PS:T, to do pretty much everything.

Hi guys, I'm back. Pretty much I was in a church camp this weekend, so def. couldn't make it. What time did you guys meet in for this one? I'm fine with any time except when I am in class or church, etc. (That means 2,3,4am is okay too.) Eldar's seen my charsheet, so I'll show up the next few times and just get into things. Read the transcript, I think that on the roleplay side I can definitely keep up with things, even if I have to emasculate Errol before the season is out. Also, maybe we can have a separate thread for characters? It was quite confusing for what race/class is each person, and relating the names of players to the characters. Maybe OpenRPG lets you do that anyway. I have it already, btw.

Clearly, an avid fan of Ninja Gaiden. And GTA.

How representative do you believe is the online gaming community in general of the overall marketplace right now, and do you see its vocal and productive nature as a valuable part of the culture and of Obsidian's game design / production? The Infinity Engine, notably, integrated the strategic nature of D&D into RPG combat, especially through full party control - while others strived to bring out the more 'personal' side of combat (TES). What parts of the former direction do you believe are appealing and are desirable in future CRPGs? Dunno if the questsions are fully comprehensible as I've tried to keep it short.

BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM *ching* BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM *ching* *ching* BAM BAM *ching* DEEP GROWL Uh... yes. There's something other than polish at work here.
-
When/where is the actual meeting? *downloads IRC. or mIRC? eh? hah? gah?*
-
Well, I tend to agree with SS that we haven't seen that much new info except for changes to the combat system, but perhaps that's because I/we aren't following it vigorously. (e.g. the DA debate a couple days back.)

Hat off and a Spanish salute to the Great Dandini.

And because the books clearly state that when they were 3'6" before the growth spurt, they were still amongst the tallest. [/Tolkien winnar] Question on Char: made a wizard, eldar approved. How many spells is a character allowed to know (inscribed in spellbook) at the start?
-
Pippin and Merry were unusually tall for hobbits of that era, especially after their 'late spurt' of growth subsequent to their meetings with the Ents. [/tolkien nerd]

Never finished Morrowind MQ, always stopped before going to Red Mountain. I guess that's credit to Oblivion.
-
Finished MQ. Gameplay-wise the last section was absolutely horrible, but then so is all Oblivion battles involving allies. I had half the Legion attacking ME with daedra attacking THEM and gah. Predictable ending, it wasn't so bad though. If we had more time and dialogue to flesh out Martin it would have had some impact. Not that one plays TES for the MQ, of course, so it was good enough.

Actually, I just keep going since by now I have a truckload of money and about 700 lockpicks. That's how I notice it. On the prison thing, I like to imagine that, being a thief/mage I was imprisoned for some heist or whatnot, and my skills degraded due to staying in a prison for decades (hey, if you're an Altmer..). Meh.

But then, everyone thought it was great you could do that in Fallout, so...

Trying to create a character, using something called PCGen which loads 3.5 info and makes it a little easier for me (and hopefully correct). I'm not worrying about any 'special stuff' or backgrounds yet, just trying to get the mechanics correct: 1/ Eldar sez: So I can lump 70 points anywhere, and e.g. make it 8/14/10/16/10/12 ? (or whatever adds up to 70?) 2/ I tried an elven wizard. Apparently with 16int (3x2)x4 = 20 initial skill points, right? I read up on all the skills, and decided to put some into Concentration, Decipher Script, Forgery, Knowledge (Arcana), Spellcraft. 3/ 1 Feat, I think I did Combat Concentration, though I was surprised to see Run on the list. You need a feat to Run? O.o 4/ In the spell tables, I know about how many spells I can memorise per day, but do I start out with any spells written in my spellbook? And if so, how many per level? I'm just trying to get up to speed, and hopefully I'll know enough not to slow anybody down in the actual thing. We'll see.

Thought so, looks like my first character is nearly done (65 hours so far). Not too bad, the Guild quests were definitely an improvement. Will probably run through again, but not sure what as, the swordbanging doesn't really appeal.
-
Which has you breaking anywhere from 0 to 20 lockpicks picking an Average lock at 63 (Journeyman) skill level? To get to a chest that gives 30 gold and 1 lockpick as loot? Unless you like joining then trotting to the thieves guild fence every ten break-ins and shell out gold, no, it's not really such a nice option. I'm not saying the option isn't there - it is, and that's really good - it's just not very viable, thanks to 1/ lose way too many locks 2/ the only source of picks able to keep up with such loss is thieves guild 3/ i'm already making FedEx runs for repairs and recharges, apparently i must do so for lockpicks now too. (only 100 stocked) Anyway, anyone know about my MQ question? ( )

He has a devious face.

Well, every time I see those stupid wraiths I zoom down the difficulty to easy and run through, I hate using night-eye because everything looks crappy, so I always run right into them then have a boring fight - dodge magic - fight sequence. o.O Lockpicking is easy, that's not the problem. When you've picked over 200 locks you should not have to play the stupid game anymore, and I picked it as a minor skill so I still don't even have Expert. Seriously, I have 65 skill and Auto Attempt breaks 20 locks on an Average. Anyway, I'm level 23 and I have to say that I think I've finished most things. I must have missed some quests and I know I am not going to bother with, say, finding all 40 ninroots or Umbacano's statues, but still.
-
That question wasn't answered at all, the guy just rattled off about getting your character uber from skill your own way. In other words, Chardev in a gameplay aspec,t not a roleplay aspect.
-
The Great Dandini should be notified of the fact that I am scheduled to be on a camp all of this weekend. o.O That's probably not so good.
-
If I want to start thinking about a character, where can I find one of those Character Sheets that has attributes, skills, feats, etc? And the current Point Buy system, don't they always change the number of points? Thinking of Wizard or Rogue, but the former might be too hard for a beginner. (Maybe the latter, too. )

Thanks Llyranor. Reading all of dmreference.com link, then will look at the other one. Just need to find out what is different from CRPGs, mainly.
-
I want to play, haven't got to play pnp properly before but throw me a lot of stuff to read and I'll be sure to stock up on some background stuff. I am fine with (all times on EST:) Friday 00:00 -> 19:00 Saturday 03:00 -> 17:00 and 22:00 -> Foreva. Hm, now that I think of it, my GMT+12 zone does screw me out of some decent times. >.< Tell me if that is too crappy for everyone else, I think it might be.
-
I'm in the same boat as Mus?. Want to play, so I'll make sure I read up on the above link. I know the CRPGs down to the toenail, but I'm pretty sure that won't help that much. You guys were talking about Friday, what time Friday? What timezone? It'll probably work out for 3am or something for me, but that's probably better.
