True, BG also had disintegrate, massive sword-chops that reduce your party members into little flesh bitties, etc. No, I didn't let that happen to Anomen on purpose...
-
BG wasn't permadeath, resurrection was easy and it was possible for as long as the member was still in your party. Fallout had the *real* permadeath. I'd probably prefer BG's one, except in FO you don't much care if your buddies die, and that was intended.

I'm a mage. My character died in half those early fights then had to be resuscitated with potions so that he wouldn't die in one hit.. ...just two. Right now I'm I have half a mind to just broadcast hold your ground and walk through the second floor, since knowing NWN2, if there's a boss fight at the end it'll have a dialogue first, instantly teleporting your party there.
-
Don't say that... is a real challenge if you're a mage, spent all your spells already, have no potions, and your party is all at 1/3 health. Wait, no. Then decided he had an endless supply of uberpotions . Go go "escort" missions.
-
Maybe just jack it up to the highest difficulty. But then, mages take an inordinate beating in that mode. Just been trying it as joined the crew.

Power attack is only bugged with few people I think. With me, the button itself is usually very responsible; it does turn off randomly, but if the button is responsive its not so bad. Quicksave? Truth. Doesnt bother me too much though. Truth. Keymapping Options? See above, unless I got something wrong? No you don't. Select character, Hit "I", see Inventory pop up right next to your mouse. I prefer "I" rather than little buttons everywhere It can go down to 0.19 in in-game settings, which is near-instant. I dare say it can be reduced further in .ini, just like zoom speed can go out hte iwndow.

If you play SP and pause all the time, both of them were fine.

Yes, volo. Yes, volo.

How is the interface clunky, except for the small response lag and the lack of a Select All button? I can't speak for content yet, but buttons are responsive (the only lag is in movement even with my crappy computer and bad fps), its not actually that bothersome to control your party (which is what you should be doing anyway, not leaving them up to stupidity) and it's not any easier than all the other RPGs in the last 3-4 years.

Sawyer's logic apparently was that Cleave is supposed to be a FREE action, but all animations take time, and thus it cannot be free = so when you have a level 20 fighter cleaivng 6 opponents it takes up a lot longer than it should. So now we have people falling over with blood spurting out for no reason. Personally I wouldnt mind losing that time and would rather have the animations, NWN1 style, but it's not that big a deal. I play with Puppet Mode on and pause to order every action. I wish they'd still have basic AI (if I tell you to attack, once he dies move on to nearest enemy) but it's the best way IMO. edit: Also, Take Freedom Away 101:

I never look in the manual either. First thing I do with any game is fiddle with every single setting on the in-game settings... then the .ini. Which did mean, of course, that it took me 20 minutes to find the Quickcast menu. And I'm playing Wizard.

There is an option that lets you select your party members by left-clicking on them. Right now it only targets them, but you can change that. Look for it in the bottom right of General Options. ATIXP 2.6Ghz, 1gb ram, Radeon 9600 Pro.. ran pretty horribly at ~10fps until I disabled ATIWorkAroundForPointLightShadow or something in the .ini. Now I'm on mostly medium settings, ~30fps outdoors, ~15fps indoors. I do think it has something to do with the lights. For anyone complaining that camera zoom speed is too slow, just go to the .ini and you can artificially set it higher than the in-game options allow... I *think*. Haven't tested it properly yet. My real complaint is that in Free Cam mode, left and right rotates cam, but up and down changes zoom (or was it angle), so that you can't actually have free cam. Can't seem to change it in Controls menu, either. In low settings you can definitely see the square blocks in spell effects and they don't look very good so far, but we will see. It's not like i know which settings exactly influence spell effects. :/

I have one thing to say. ....Sass Afrass?

My lady, did I tell you yet about the Hillwater Giants? My heroic feats felled them in a great orgasmic burst of admiration for my blinding righteousness. Feel free to swoon now. Nobody thought about my point about romances between party members? Not Jaheira-Khalid, but an actual romance. As the 'third man' / 'friend' the PC will be able to witness a lot of what happens and nudge them around, with scripted events working off those variables. Especially in a D&D game where you could be anything from a hunky Paladin to a chaotic halfling druid, it might work better - even if it doesn't have quite the impact of a romance with the player.

roshan: with the unresponsive buttons, is your game fluid everywhere else or does the response lag occur in other places as well? I have a low-end system and I'm pretty used to it, but it still chafes. Video clips I've seen didnt seem to have "characters sprinting at light speed", it had looked to me like they ran at similar speeds to NWN1. This is not true, then? I wouldn't like it if that was the case. It's a pity really, if what you say is true. Tactics is the be-all and end-all of party CRPG combat.
-
Well, if we take the example of SoA, near endgame you could find magical items dropping from just about anything, and you'd be selling cartloads of +2 items without thinking twice. I suppose this is inevitable in a game that goes up to level 20, though. Still, sounds good.

Oblivion claimed to use dynamic, then dropped it later, yes. Anyway, why does it matter whose fault (game or computer) it is, and who is wrong and who is right? That's not helping your quest to get the game working Setzer. If you aren't satisfied with taks' suggestions then ask some others to help you, I don't think anybody can be even bothered to dig up and find out what exactly was the issue anymore. Now. Question for those who have the game: Has the toolset been changed at all from the pre-order toolset? I.e. is the Undo button no longer gimped, etc? And is it true the loot / power / difficulty progression is too wanton, a la KOTOR / JE games? How long does that sense of 'early game' last?
-
Just a quick question; does anybody actually use pause liberally? In IE games the way I played was, I would pause every 6 seconds (or more often, really), order each of my party mbmers actions, then pause whenever I need someone to make a move. In difficult battles I would be pausing literally every couple of seconds. So I'd like to know if anyone plays with that much pausing and the lack of complete control still bothers them, or if party members running off and all matters if you don't pause as frequently.

But my wings, mkreku. I have lost my wings.

jorian: he means, Josh Sawyer did not say GENDER=MALE because he was talking about male players. It does not matter if the player or his RPG character is male or female. The point is that in RPG romances, all females are attracted to male players, and all males are attracted to female players, often for no reason. Viconia's example shows that even when there is a reason, it is often shallow. So it's about the writing, not about the players' gender. Anyway, romances will naturally be difficult, since love is one of the hardest emotions to understand and convey in writing, especially when it's interactive. I think straightforward infatuation or rather could work fairly well, though - or romance inside the party even.

Children, be nice. Let's mock Interplay instead. Without the puns. OH GOD, THE PUNS.

NWN1 used to have "High-Resolution Font" option. Curiously, that would make the font SMALLER on my computer. And jaggy. Can't help you.

16th, 16th, 16th. I HATE YOU ALL. Anyway, has the click-move lag been fixed as stated by the patch? I'm seeing more complaints about them but don't know if it's from people with or without the latest patch. It really needs to be fixed, I'm probably going to lag anyway with my rig anyway. But then, if I can stand Gothic 3 clogging up every 60 seconds with TAGES..

We will know once we see a screenshot, really. If it says "Kill Dragon" "Save Dragon" "Get Dragon loot" ...yeah. I remain excited by DA, if they remain 'honest' to their 'bullet points' from past and present - by that not 'live up to the hype', because nobody does, but not distort that vision - then I think we can have a nice nice game to play in a year or two.
-
ME-style dialogue? HATE. At least I can find it in myself not to care too much since NWN2 and G3 will keep me busy. I did like the screenie, however, as in art style (nothing special but decent and fits) and the interface.
