Played 'NG/CG' role with a wizard then LE/NE with a thief, so I'm trying a Paladin... except of the Red Knight. Ignoring any FR / D&D rules that may exist for this deity, and the forced alignment, I simply assume that the Red Knight is more of an impersonal, amorphous deity that is an entire embodiment of all that is strategic and tactically efficient; yet this, unlike conventional thinking, does not simply mean the refusal to consider anything unemotional or so forth. It is perfectly strategical and logical to, say, exploit the emotions of an opponent. Anyway, it's an interesting perspective to play from, despite the natural limitations of the CRPG dialogue systems. What was I saying? Oh yes. I swapped to 1.05 once I reached Neverwinter. My performance has been pretty much the same since 1.03 days - 15-20 everywhere but 5-10 in cities. Really, I dont' mind all that much, especially since I use the console to give everyone the Dash feat. Just got freaking Shandra forced into the party though and I really, really hate that. Bishop is one of my favourite characters but if I have a Paladin, Fighter and Ranger it's kinda stupid, party-wise. I don't see too much difference from 1.04, but multiselect and so forth is definitely an excellent addition, as are the health metres.

Weltanschauung is another one. My personal favourites are Tonnies' Gemeinschaft and Gemellschaft. Very simplistically, means rural / small communities and urban societies... except there's like half a syllable of difference.

Nope, happens even when only one person is around, i.e. if the rest are still catching up. When you clear the warehouse for the watch, and you find the Neverwinter Nine man with his cohort waiting outside (the ones who decide to go get drunk in the Sunken Flagon)... isn't that usually Nevalle? Cause I got some random guy with a goatee and a ponytail instead. O_o

Yes. I had done that a while ago, though, and the side buttons just worked automatically. One thing I'm discovering is that you can't open doors while you have Select-All enabled, or containers. You have to disable it temporarily to open such things. Not a big deal, I'm assuming it'll get fixed in the future. There are also some Follow issues where some people get stuck on nothing.

I can confirm that mouse buttons and multi-select in general is flawless, using MS Intellimouse Optical thingy. It's brililant because I have puppet mode, elave everyoone on stand ground, and it's pretty much BG-style control. Had fun in Leldon's Hideout with that for 10 minutes. Then the computer crashed.

Heh. Even if I had money I'd rather not spend it on computers at the moment. But anyway, tried a few different things. - CPU/Case temp is usually 38-42C, I think thatslike 100-105 Fahrenheit. Apparently AthlonXPs can go up to like 80, though. - Fan speeds are: CPU fan - ~3300RPM, the fan on the back of the case: ~1700RPM. I dont know how much they're supposed to go for but the latter one looks ridiculously low. Unfortuantely SpeedFan wont let me change the fan speed and maybe thats not supported on my motherboard without external products. - Removing components such as USB cables to printers, CD drives and so forth didn't do jack. - Trying to get a fan (not a computer fan, a REAL fan) to blow at the open side on somebody's recommendation, osunds odd to me but why not. I mean, it's either airflow or bad PSU right? And if it's the latter I dont even know how I'd go testing that. Bok does not realise my exile from newegg goodness in this heathen land of overpriced electrical goods.

And thus, another anniversary for a heinous and tragic event is created.

Interesting to see that some quotes and such are indeed beginning to surface now, although after the primary definition of the events had already been set. They released some quotes from his diatribe on the NBC Video as well. Just read the play, it's actually pretty funny, if you ignore the fact that the writer just killed thirty people. Certainly it could even be mistaken as a parody or a joke, if it was not written by someone of his personality. A series of such writings would mark him out to be a disturbed, potentially dangerous person, b ut certainly not enough to force him to get locked up or anything like that. The warning signs weren't all that clear, it only seems clear now in hindsight. I find it sad that one thing which seems likely is that in the end Cho really was genuinely angry and depressed, and he really did believe in the stuff he said and wrote; yet we all understand that, brought out of the dark room, the depths to which our emotions can sink us, in daylight and under the scrutiny of society, his fears and anger, reasons and conspiracies, are all rather childish and silly, to the point of a sad ridicule. -

Coming back to meta's reply in page 9: The media have denied us nearly any actual quotations from either his writings, his 'death note' or his letters to NBC, as far as I can dig up. However, one of the exampels for a particularly disturbing piece of writing, for example, was about a son who hated his stepfather, (or the other way round), and eventually ended up attacking him with electric chainsaws, throwing stuff at him, and eventually killing him in a sadistic manner. Think there was a quote somewhere along the lines of "you think I can't f--ing kill you? Here's one eye... here's the other." So yeah, it's disturbing, but again, look at Old Boy or hundreds of other literary works. Cho's works don't compare to those. Meta, the reason I made such 'sweeping' statements is because I was able to read a few descriptions of Cho's work that actually went into such detail - mostly from the Korean media, which is much more concerned about Cho as a person, as you can imagine. Instead of getting actual quotations or even neutrla descriptions so we can decide for ourselves just how disturbing these writings were, for the most part, all we get is second-hand interpretations laced with emotives, sucha s "horrifying", disturbing, etc. This is not right. That is interesting, the only example I have ever heard is the roommate. Can you tell me any other instances that I might have missed? To reword myself, I would argue that people draw a line, a grey line in the sand, and once you step across it, then you are preferring your own company to the point of antisocialness. i.e. we are supposed to react in a certain way to strangers or acquaintances or other social contacts in a certain manner; you can be a bit reclusive, a bit of a loner, but there is definitely a line. ------------------------------------ Anyway, meta, I am in no way saying that the kid is NOT responsible. He in the end is resposnible for what he does and nobody can absolve him of what he has done. But that will not help us do what we can do prevent these kind of things in the future. But the media will not try and find out exactly what he was so angry about, and if they know from his letters, they will not tell us. All they want tod o is designate him a psychopath then move on, after having garnered their share of ratings. -
Well, because of my crappy PSU shorting out on me I haven't been able to play NWN2 for more than 2 seconds yet. All I really care about is the multiselect, so hope that it works well. I use puppet mode exclusively and never, ever use party AI, so it'll be really useful.
-
Yeah, I guess I'll have to either take it to a professional (and thus spend money) or just buy another PSU (and thus spend money). Heh. Thanks for the advice. Apparently its a good idea for me to get 450W or something higher than my current (400W).
-
Yeah, the problem is I'd hate to shell out cash (on which I am currently short) on a PSU, then find out that it was actually an overheating issue. I'd love to know what exactly the problem is before I spend any money. I didn't think my computer was high-flying enough to need any additional fans or cooling, either..

Without the second bit, it's not much. There are numerous clever tricks the media all over the world are pulling, consciously and unconsciously, in order to make Cho much more deviant than evidence strictly says. He might actually really be a super-weirdo with mental problems, of course, and it is likely - but there is a lot of assumption goingo n here. A) Anti-social behaviour. Now whoever said anti-social behaviour and social isolation is a direct cause of mental derangement and/or criminal activity? B) His writings. They're not your average uni kid's creative writing, but sure as hell they're not nearly as bad as some film scripts that are aired nowadays, or short stories or novels by published, respectable authors. I mean, Old Boy was pretty screwed up, so should the director go get therapy? What about published stories involving amazingly graphic scenes of rape? Extreme violence on screen? All these things were meticulously conceived of by someone. *only* in hindsight does it seem like it was a blatant warning sign. C) The media initially signalled Emily Hillscher as Cho's girlfriend and used it to try and find a 'reason' for his behaviour. Now we know that, according to Emily's close friend, Emily probably didn't even know who Cho was, and already had a boyfriend. Media and politicians, and all of us to an extent, always try to find reasons as to why they did such things. Because if Cho was a perfectly normal and socially well-integrated person, then the spectre of deviance cannot absolve society of this crime; it falls on all of us to look in ourselves and ask, are we too a potential murderer. If we can however say Cho in certain ways was not normal and disobeyed the laws of our society, in this case by being antisocial, disturbed, etc, then we can take comfort in the fact that our society is fine and works well, its just those outside that social norms that need to be helped / controlled. D) And that is why retarded idiots like Jack Thompson believe that once again video games are the culprit. Video games are not the culprit. Neither are violent films, nor antisocial behaviour, and so forth, in and of themselves. They are simply phenomena on their own that compound a problem that has already existed in this person and in our society. One part of it is that person himself: it is no use pretending that Cho is completely a victim of external forces, because in the end it was him who allowed himself to descend into a level of mental disarray that led him to commit such acts. Another part of it is our society and our epistemology, which has created certain laws of social interaction and relationships. In our society, everybody notices loners such as Cho, but because we find it difficult to approach strangers and want to respect their privacy, nobody tries to build a relationship with them. In our society being a loner in and of itself is a sin and is something shameful. In our society you are allowed to be different, but often your difference must be kept private; in public, in interaction with anything but those closest to you, you would do well to present an affable personality that in many communal circles is remarkably similar. Our codes of behaviour and interaction can choke us to varying degrees, and it is no surprise that alienation, loneliness and shallowness of relationships are some of the most recurring and relevant themes in our society. How many people have we seen commit similar acts such as Cho's and have similar personalities? E) If people really wanted to stop this kind of thing from happening more and more, they need to stop trying to find that one magical solution, such as banning video games or violent films or guns or whatever: they need to think about what underlying tendencies of our society have created an environment and circumstnace in which, reaacting with the personal elements within Cho and other such people, result in a dangerous level of mental disarray and murderous desires. I too am willing to bet that he may well have Counter-Strike installed on his computer, or looked at hardcore porn, or listened to heavy metal (but then, apparently he listened to Pop too, so huh.). I can find no words for those who would latch eagerly on to such things and proclaim condemnation save those of utter disgust. -
Alright, time to bother you people again. Problem: For the last two or three months I've had this annoying problem where the computer randomly crashes. What's a little different is, whereas sometimes it'll just reset itself immediately, more often it won't turn on again; and I need to switch off the power at the back of the case then switch it on again. Sometimes, especially after repeated crashes, it still wouldnt work (kind of like a car's engine not starting) and I'd need to wait. It makes me think that it might be the power supply failing or overheating or something. It especially happens a lot when I run games, so maybe it happens when the graphics card pulls away a lot of the muscle. I understand my CPU temp to hang around 45-55, but doesnt really go any higher than that. After crashing its often slightly warm but not more. I must note that at times it runs fine for ages - i.e. I could play NWN2 for 4+ hours at one point without crashing. At other times, it crahses as soon as I try to start the game, or even when I'm just browsing. Things I've Tried: - Replacing the ATI x800XT, which I purchased around the time crashes began to occur, with the old Radeon 9600 Pro. Didn't do anything. - Tried a different wall socket, didn't work. I'd go and get a new PSU or a fan but that costs money and I want to know what the problem is before potentially wasting it. Any suggestions would be appreciated, hardware problems aren't my forte. Specs: AMD Athlon XP, clocks in around 2ghz 1gb RAM (256x2, 512) ATI x800 XT, 256mb, AGP Abit NF7-S2G motherboard SATA 160gb hard drive

That's fine. All I really want is multi-select and stuff.

Either Wiz/Sorc or Ranger -> Arcane Archer. Wouldn't mind a Thief either. Do we still go into 2 groups?
-
Can I play my 1.04 save with 1.05?

Alright, just checked it out. In PST Time, I'm cool with anytime after 3pm on Sundays, but only after midnight on Saturdays. So what's happening?

I'm korean as well, living in NZ... anyway, let me offer some words on that perspective, other than the 'guns' argument, which has always been well covered. So when the incident first happened, there was a general feeling amongst the Korean community that it was "America at it again". The image of America as a place of moral decline is reinforced with such events and the implication was that only in a place such as America could such despicable happenings happen so often (there was a fatal shooting at RPI recently). So imagine their shock when they find out that he was a Korean. Even though he's been in US since he was 8, and was as much "American" as he was "Korean", many of the Koreans I know responded with acute embarrassment, as if they somehow shouldered some of the social responsibility or the shame of having one of their countrymen commit such acts. The way I see it, we cannot make such bold assertions about one's demographics anymore - whereas decades and centuries ago being a "Korean" or an "American" carried certain moral, behavioural, cognitive and cultural codes which were very rarely broken out of (indeed, most could not imagine thinking and acting in any other way), this is not really the case anymore. This it not to say it doesn't matter what country they are from, but it is rather amazing for me to see how the national identity still takes the foreground in media and public discussions. To me it does not really matter in this case whether the man was Korean, or Chinese, or White American. There will have been very similar social and epistemological reasons that something like this happened, happens, and will happen with such frequency. As reference, I have seen Koreans who came to NZ when they were 7-8 as well, and they are extremely 'un'Korean - they dont eat Korean food, hardly speak Korean, don't watch Korean news or Korean media, don't consume Korean products, don't interact with other Koreans, and their moral values are distinctly western or New Zealandian. This isn't a simple blame game where you pass it around between different countries; the problem and the 'blame' lies in an entirely different sphere. Sadly, issues such as nationality ("look, this happened in US, look, a Korean did it") and stupid scapegoats ("We found out that he used to play ****ing tetris when he was 6, therefore video games are at fault"... remember Columbine?), will soon overtake any proper discussion of social issues or even the acknowledgment of the tragedy. We are already seeing the media describe him as a loner with issues; he will be stereotyped into a disturbed individual who was a loner, and his anti-socialness supposedly lead to a sort of madness; wouldn't be surprised if he was subsequently linked to Goths, video games, alternative culture, and whatnot. -
I'll get home soon then work all those crazy Amerikun times out.

I turned up for Eldar's campaign every time, except when I couldn't get up bloody 7am and get in front of the computer. You guys get a good time for yourselves and I'll see if I can fit it in.
-
Sure, but i'm on GMT+12 so we'll see if I can fit you guys' times.

Ah, the memories. I actually got over halfway in Lionheart. I went into it expecting a Diablo with more RPishness, which it was, and as a magic user the game was so ridiculously unbalanced, it was a challenge to get through every fight or even to sneak/run away from mobs. Which had its own brand of fun, until you realised that was the only fun you'd ever get from Lionheart.

The point is it looks freaking awesome. *depressed*

If you could make any game, what would it be like?
Tigranes replied to Bokishi's topic in Computer and Console
'cuz DR said so, and DR don't need to 'splain. See? Sand's idea sounds pretty good actually. crouch / prone / cover fire implementation is definitely a must, you could really get some advances on battles that way.
