  1. actually... let's resurrect it YET AGAIN.. because getting the dreams is STILL very buggy, even in version 3.01 of the game, as I am using now. no matter HOW MANY times I rest in the wilderness with Durance now, the 1st dream will simply not trigger. at all. sad. one of the reasons I stopped playing the game over a year ago, is that it was literally FILLED with minor, but very irritating, bugs like this. so I wait a whole YEAR... and two expansion packs, no less... and find the game STILL has these minor irritating bugs. I can't imagine myself ever purchasing anything Obsidian releases ever again. their quality control is just abysmal, even if they have friendly, helpful staff.
  2. uh. no. I am seeing bugs they supposedly FIXED in version 1.04 reappear in 3.01 as if they used a buggy previous version of the game to build the second expansion pack onto. example: in version 1.03, if you fully explored Durance's dialogue tree before resting in the wilderness with him 4 times, then it would break his questline and you would never get the first dream. that bug is now back... I just had it happen to me. so, no, not only do I not agree with you that the bugs are only related to the new content, the very WAY this engine works makes it so they fail to catch and repair PREVIOUS irritating bugs. I'll just flat out say it... you thinking this engine will produce something not just as irritating with POE2 is pure wishful thinking. it needs to be an entirely open modeled engine, using data references sheets that are easily editable by anyone. why? because with how terrible Obsidian is at catching minor bugs, it will indeed take the community to fix any product they release, and that means it has to be easily editable, END OF. what's more, they have had to do tremendous amounts of tweaking to get the current engine to run without causing overheating, framerate drops, etc. unity itself is a bad engine as a base, to then create another mess from it. maybe Unity 5 will be better... but I highly, HIGHLY doubt it, given the past history. so, you have both issues with internal mechanics, and with external data reference that bugger the direction this is going in. without an entirely new engine, this series will die, I guarantee it.
  3. version 3.01 I cannot get the 1st dream to occur for the trials of Durance. doesn't matter how many times I rest in the wilderness, or which map. Kana's "rest" triggers work, just FYI. this looks an awful lot like the bug that triggered way back in version 1.03 where if you fully explored Durance's dialogue tree before resting 4 times, it would not advance his quest any more. anywho... I know you will never bother to fix this, as you do a TERRIBLE job of fixing small bugs like this, but just thought I would post it for others, in case they have it happen to them, so they know that it is indeed a bug.
  4. Sorry, but I have to resurrect this thread. I'm using version 3.01 of the game... and I cannot get the 1st stage of the quest to trigger... no matter how many times (12) I have rested with Durance in the Wilderness. It looks like the same bug that was there in version 1.03!
  5. version 3.01 Just finished clearing the bandit camp in Black Meadow (where the goods and campfire is), and Eder for some reason keeps on going into combat mode. after 10 seconds, he will go out of it... then after another 10 seconds, will go back into it. there are no enemies anywhere nearby. *sigh* EDIT: OK... so it turns out that OFFSCREEN, literally at the edge of the map, there were two trolls fighting a bandit... and that was what was causing eder to keep going into combat mode. only figured it out after running over practically the whole map. So... Eder must have map radar? yeah... whatever.
  6. ...or maybe a file to delete or edit to reset the statistics?
  7. using patch 3.01 After getting a full party together, went back to clear out Valewood, and after fighting the two bears in the cave there, my party's personal combat statistics no longer update. none of them. they've been stuck at what they were right after that combat for the past 2 levels now. is there a console command to reset them?
  8. "Yes well." As usual, you have found the best reply. *bows*
  9. LOL no. this game has been out for a VERY long time... and the number of independent mods for it that have any significant game impacts are tiny. way fewer in number and scope than I would have even expected. I think this engine is a dead end myself; it's just too esoteric and too prone to odd little bugs. and that's too bad, because I don't really see anyone else even trying to replace the RPG infinity engine other than Obsidian. I think whoever coded this made a yuuuge mess of it.
  10. You know, I got so bloody frustrated with all the little bugs, I stopped playing this game a long time ago (like, when it was at patch 1.04). so, I finally come back, install both the expansion packs and the latest patch... and find it's got some of the SAME bugs as the version I played so long ago. for example, the statistics database for each character has stopped updating, and the most powerful thing it says some of my characters have killed is ... a young wolf (same for all relevant combat statistics, btw). but ho! there are whole new bugs! for example, I equipped Aloth with a small shield and a hatchet as a secondary weapon setup for when he gets inevitably surround by the foes that all move as fast as greased lighting now, and ignore everything BUT Aloth. except whenever I do that, and he gets any damage, he ends up HITTING HIMSELF with his weapon... which continues even after combat ends unless I tell him to move. now, I get "unskilled" with a weapon... but to continually hit yourself in the face with it? seems a bit... odd. so, BIG SIGH, it looks like yet again, I will be bashing my head on my desk trying to figure out what the latest workarounds are for the latest bugs.
  11. bah. I got the same exact error after the latest patch. worked fine before that. now I have to uninstall.... and reinstall... AGAIN. I've been struggling with ridiculous bugs for this game since it came out! I can't recall ever having to deal with so many issues with a game since "Pools of Radiance" ages ago from Ubisoft. I've never been able to finish this game... it always runs into some serious bug that I can't even figure out a workaround for. makes me sad. also, If the dev who had posted above had bothered to read the dxdiag posted by the OP, they would have noticed the user had recent drivers (August) installed. FWIW, I'm using the absolute latest nvidia drivers myself, on a higher end card, and still got this error with the latest patch. your beta testing team is perhaps the worst I have ever seen.
  12. LOL, you want to know WHY? compare the amount of money the two companies have to spend on advertising. saying something like DAI sold more copies so must be better, is like saying since Ann Coulter's books outsell Neil DeGrasse Tyson's, Coulter must be the better writer. basically, the argument boils down to an ad populum fallacy.
  13. according to what I have seen, yup. renaming the emptysteamdepot folder to pillarsofeternity_data does work. ...or else completely reinstalling the game from steam.... which then leaves the emptysteamdepot folder with nearly a full duplicate of all game files, thus doubling the space the game uses. so, yeah, I'd kinda go for the first method.
  14. I hear they added a feature to change the voice and picture your main character is using. have you tried using that to change the voice to something different, then back again?
  15. I just saw a post on the steam site that said the patch changes the name of a directory the game needs. let me see if I can find that for you. basically, you just need to change the name of the directory back, and the game should work again. edit: here's the info: I just renamed the EmptySteamDepot folder to PillarsofEternity_Data so, open the folder where the program is installed, look for the folder named " EmptySteamDepot" and rename that folder to: "PillarsofEternity_Data" that seems to be the problem most people who updated to 1.05 are having. hope that works for you. fwiw, it looks like the patch installer is failing to remove the temporary files and then properly rename the folders.
  16. this should probably be in the general discussion, since it's not really a bug issue. but it's worth discussing, to be sure.
  17. it's been several weeks since the release of 1.04, but I don't see an update on when the next patch is due? maybe I missed it though. anyone got a link?
  18. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72439-must-read-how-to-report-an-issue/
  19. yup. this is the way this has "worked" since the release version. it sucks, and I hope they adress it in the next patch. I basically stopped playing this game about 3/4 of the way through my second playthrough because the mechanics and bugs were just breaking immersion every time I had to go back and micromanage something. this was a big offender on my list.
  20. you're missing fampyr charm. and I think that does target deflection, because they ALWAYS ended up charming the character with the lowest deflection in my party, which coincidentally, also had the highest will score. I can't recall EVER actually being successful in saving against that charm at any time, over 6 or 7 separate fampyr fights. I basically always plan for aloth to go to the enemy side, and have a paralyze or knockdown to take him out of the fight when he does. yeah... even will score over 100 didn't phase that charm.
