  1. Played first game as a meadow human rogue from the Deadfire Archipelago with raider/highwayman background. Specialised with a blunderbuss. RP'd that all the killing started to weigh on his soul but his old crew didn't want that because he was/had been an effective, ruthless killer. So he decided to leave and got caught up with becoming a Watcher. So it's actually cool that the sequel brings my character back to his roots... I honestly don't know who he'd side with. I think he'd probably side with the queen or the Royal Deadfire Company. The queen probably because he sympathises with an underdog, appreciates a subtle approach and he'd do it perhaps as means of making amends for his bloody past. The Royal Deadfire Company might be considered on the basis of whether or not they bring stability to the region that the queen may be incapable of providing. It would be a cold and more pragmatic choice though, as their presence might serve as some kind of existential threat to the native culture/tradtions of Neketaka. But I am projecting here... I have no clue as to what the relationship is between any of these factions and what their real goals are - let alone solid details of the plot itself. Doubt he'd want to join the pirates as those are the types of people he turned his back on. The Valian's might bring infrastructure of a sort with their knowledge of trade, but he's wary of their preoccupation with animancy and all the nonsense that introduces. Eothas can do one as far as he's concerned. Dude almost killed him.
  2. Was this supposed to sound ambiguous? Haha, no. Not intentionally any way...
  3. My character in the first game had a white wurm as a pet. Would be fun if it had grown up a little, maybe had a once-per-day frost breath cone attack or something.
  4. How about a mountain dwarf chanter/druid from the living lands?
  5. A talking grimoire would be awesome. Maybe you have to find ways to translate passages inside it, which means new abilities and spells are unlocked as the game progresses.
  6. I'm usually indifferent about dwarves but I think there needs to be a dwarf companion to add to the roster. We've already got 2 godlike and 2 elves (that wield rapiers), 2 humans, an aumaua and an orlan. Maybe a barbarian/priest of Ondra or something, given we've the water theme. Ydwin isn't my cup of tea. Seems too anime fan-servicey and I'm predicting some Hermione Granger know-it-all personality to boot with a slightly aloof 'I'm creepy' vibe. I probably won't take her or kill her if she isn't greatly different to what her picture suggests in terms of personality.
  7. I like playing as casters too, but my vision of a caster is always a thin, slightly pencil-necked book worm kinda guy. It's cliché sure, but that's my vision. My problem with PoE is that I have to have high might to have high damage output (I like nuker/evocation types). But in PoE might corresponds to physical strength & spiritual strength. Seeing an 18 next to might for my scarecrow thin toon doesn't sit well with me. It just grates on my OCD sensibilities too much. Especially if I then look at Edér's and see he is 2 points lower - and he's supposed to be muscular tank warrior. Can't my character be spiritually strong but physically weak? Why are these two things combined? That said... Been playing through with a rogue. Pretty fun so far. Given the mechanics of magic in this game - that you only cast IN combat and can't pre-buff and you can't use spells to ambush (fireball from a distance a la BG/IWD games), I think I prefer it.
  8. I don't mind the writing so much. And their presence in the game is warranted given you're playing someone who can perceive peoples souls. Next to the preponderance of godlike making up the soul story npcs, their names are the main irritation for me. Maybe if someone made a mod that renamed them to 'villager', 'traveller', 'townsperson', 'stranger' or such like... That way, the writing can remain, but the stupid names are removed. If this same mod could remove the monuments from the game too, I'd be happy.
  9. This too also slightly grinds on my nerves. 80% of the writing is good on these, but a few factors irritate me. A disproportionate amount of them seem to be godlike. I am at Twin Elms and I don't think I have seen any Orlan or Aumaua characters with soul stories to click on. It figures these are kick starter submitted npc's because most people want fancy and gimmicky looking avatars to represent their contribution and what's more obvious than a godlike? So I see all these godlike soul story npc's standing about and I'm significantly less amazed by their presence in the game world. But maybe they're not meant to be rare? I am very finnicky though... Some of those godlike soul stories don't even go so far to reference the person having godlike features. The ones that do - I am happy with these. Some of the names irritate me and severely ruin my immersion (along with those monuments) e.g. 'Zloxx the Ursurper'... If you want to credit the backers, can that be done outside of the game please - in the credits only? Perhaps a bit of additional writing could have been added to show that the soul story npc's have caught you giving them your weird watcher stare too?
