yes and no. The point about jefferson is that Beck himself is probably a more staunch supporter of Jefferson and his contemporaries than Dunn is of Mao, and thus saying Dunn is a communist for liking some of Mao's philosophy (see the quote hurlshot provided) also, by comparison, makes Beck and others at fox news who are saying that Jefferson is fantastic, as supporters of Genocide. Even more fervent supporters than Dunn. I'm just using the point to show the idiocy of the idea that because somebody likes a philosopher, they will follow everything that philosopher states. And, honestly, to further highlight the obvious spin that fox news throws on things, even if they have a "No spin zone" that's their most spintastic program.

It's not a witch hunt. She was thrown under the bus by Obama, but it wasn't just for one dumb quote. She constantly said and did dumb things as the director of communications, the worst being starting a war with Fox News (before that quote was found), which only made it look like Obama was trying to suppress dissent and boosted Fox News tremendously. I suppose then the question is "Would the quote have been found if fox wasn't trying to cover themselves". Funny thing to me is that they're attacking her about this whole thing by taking things that she said one way, twisting them so that they are said the other way, when they don't take somebody who is so obviously ignorant of facts and hire her simply because she's a former candidate and was considered a good possiblity for being a candidate again. By ignorant I mean Palin believes that Dinosaurs are big lizards who walked around the earth and stepped on humans. Also taks, "my favorite" and "One of my favorite" are different things, otherwise the language would be different. I can only assume Dunn has a degree in communications meaning that she has a fairly strong grasp of the english language which leads to her understanding a difference you refuse to grasp because you want to make a point about how liberals are horrible commies. You say that the willful extermination of millions isn't ok, and yet the founding fathers not only enslaved people, but also started to drive others to extinction. We don't know exactly how Terrible they were given that they are held up as heroes by our education and culture, and thus their personal foibles are covered up in favor of the facts that they were able to do "impossible" things to make a country. If you're gonna fight me over the Indians thing, realize that Jefferson basically said that they could stay and hold their tribal lands as long as they adopted the american way of life and became "civilized" rather than stay with the culture they'd been raised and followed. And in 1803 he laid out the plan Jackson carried out that created the "trail of tears". Thus the analogy is sound, even if you feel like screwing around with the english of that statement showing the difference over something minor, but not about the one about "favorites". Thus by Dagon and Fox News logic, Beck and those who hold Jefferson up as a favorite, are advocates of genocide, go figure.

Recently Austrailia has passed a few interesting bans, One being that porn that includes breast sizes A cup or below can no longer be sold, and the other being that female ejaculation is considered "refuse". http://www.sexparty.org.au/index.php/press...ification-board http://www.somebodythinkofthechildren.com/...-small-breasts/ ... I had thought of possibly going down there for some future grad work (just to get away from the US, and they've got some nice observatories there) but guess I won't because I'd have to ditch my HD. Crazy aussies.

What? Dunn is to Mao what Beck is to the founding fathers (at least from the evidence available) Thus, using Dagons reasoning, we get that Beck is a supporter of slavery, a distaste for womens rights, a love of war (Liberty tree should be washed in the blood of patriots and tyrants every so often you know), and an overall love of everything tobacco. That's no different than saying Dunn is a communist who wants to wipe out specific portions of the population who are dissenting against her party (which is more on Fox's list of things to do). It'd be nice if you would actually say something of substance than charge around and insult people because you're OMG SMRT!

Went to philosophy, had a facepalm moment because one of the students suggested not studying or trying to learn about certain things because god didn't give us the tools to do it. I little part of the scientist in me died.

Again, two of my favorite is not my two favorite. That is a huge difference. Her list of favorite philosophers could have hundreds on it. We could ask her to clarify that, but that might hurt the argument that she is some crazed Maoist. This. Similarly the other person on her favorites list (if they are her two favorites like you seem to be BEGGING us to accept Wrath) is mother Theresa. Now I'm not sure about you but Mao and mother Theresa morals probably end up slamming into each other at 400 mph if a person tried to follow both of them at the same time.

well, the DvD version is gonna be even more adult with more smurf sex

Where did you get methods? She said nothing about methods. Wouldn't your methods follow your philosophy? And this "you're going to figure out how to do things that have never been done before". Those aren't methods? And Mao is not the one person she turns to most for those methods? Like I said, I don't think she's actually a Maoist, she's just a loony leftist who's had to resign her position because of all the dumb things she'd said and done. Ok, you're becoming deluded. You're saying that because she considered a guy a good philosopher she also totally ascribed to all of his ideals. As to "things that have never been done before" Where does she say what things? I could say "you're on the list" but for all you know that could be anywhere between a hit list and a birthday list. Albert Einstien did things that were never done before, was he a Maoist? Did you actually read the quote she used when she gave that speech? Like I said, she used the quote "You fight your war, I'll fight mine". How does that have anything to do with Chinese Communist Doctrine at all?

Bioware - distilling the essense of an RPG down to a QTE. Except it fits, and you don't HAVE to do the trigger. If it was a straight QTE they'd get beaten up for it, but it's a simple button press that's not essential to the storyline/survival of your character.

Cameron seems very good at his job. Aliens, Titanic, Terminator, Avatar...
-
Biggest thing I've seen is that in the middle of cutscenes they have triggers for changing the cutscene (supposedly there's a renegade one where somebody is yelling at you about something, you hit the button and shep shoots out the window behind the guy and kicks him out)

No, but he's one of my favorites due to his cynical look at human populations. But it's not like I'm running around applauding his decisions as leader. Also in the case of ms dunn you don't give her any credit for Mother Theresa and appear to ignore it due to the fact that "Lawl, Mao is her favoritist philosopher. She must be a commie who wants to perform some ethnic cleansing"

I've had problems with ants, mainly because there were four nests on our roof at one point. Usually I'd just toss some water on their entrance and hit em with Orange guard (which seemed to kill on contact and wiped out their scent trail). I haven't had a problem since the nests were destroyed by the roofers.

She knows what she was saying, but didn't expect it to get totally distorted. Effectively you're saying that she endorses any and all policies by Mao, and Hurl is endorsing any and all policies by Machiavelli, or because I think some of what Stalin said was very good insights, I endorse any and all policies he put in place. Everyone has a few gems of wisdom that they take (knowingly or unknowingly) from a not so nice person, this does not mean that they endorse that persons policies. Hell, even Lee Atwater used the quote she used, but you don't see him being raked over the coals, oh wait, he's a republican strategist so Beck would ignore his indiscretions. Go figure.

Really? stating that adding the word "hero" to a sentence that doesn't include it, and calling that a manipulation of the truth in order to defame somebody is an opinion? Unless you consider editing the truth to be opinion, then you're not exactly correct here. And taks, what you just said allows people to say "You believe in god, so did hitler, you are a fan of the worst person in the US"

seems like alot of the early DLC is problematic

again "of my favorite" is not "my favorite". Also "Doing things that haven't been done" doesn't have sinister connotations... If it did, scientific progress would be considered heretical and thus put to a stop except for the possibility of illegal research. Also note that MOTHER THERESA is mentioned... a person who is considered one of the BEST PEOPLE WHO EVER LIVED!
-
Bolded point for emphasis. Also oppressive people do have good insights, Stalin made a good point about human life "One person dead is a tragedy, on million is a statistic". Does the fact he was an oppressive dictator negate the veracity of his statement? No. Also I'd like to point out that beck in his screaming about her statement he added the word "hero" to what ms dunn stated, and ignored the bit about mother Theresa.

I played a bit (about an hour overall) and thus far I've been having fun but was a bit annoyed that my better save profile (58 infiltrator) was renegade, I thought I know i had done paragon specifically for that purpose. That said, the intro is fairly well done, and I'm loving martin sheen as one of the voice actors. I feel a little tingle down my spine when he talks

Well, she did say Mao was one of her 2 favorite political philosophers, that's a fact. Along with MOTHER THERESA! She said that for comic effect, and it's not like she was quoting Mao for some really socialist idea, she was quoting "you fight your war, I'll fight mine". Hell she even got the quote from a republican strategist. As to her favorite, she said that Theresa and Mao were her favorites for getting across that message, not her favorite of all times or "personal hero (In terms of Mao and Beck)". Basically beck took her quote, removed half of it, and added onto it with some of his own stuff to make her sound worse, in the name of smearing a member of the Obama administration.

US falls below Canada in Economic Freedom Index
Calax replied to Wrath of Dagon's topic in Way Off-Topic
There is some... odd... methodology there, like considering only the highest marginal tax rates (as opposed something else that's more representative, like median rates), and defining "government freedom" as essentially the inverse of government expenditures. In the latter case, the U.S.'s defense budget is probably what holds it back more than anything-- American military spending essentially subsidizes defense for much of the rest of the developed world. I find it interesting that the US basically holds up two industries all on its own (healthcare and Defense). Particularly spending something like 45% of all the money used for defensive purposes in the world. -
Classes, came home, played a bit of wow, got called a liar ad hominem by taks, still am not talking to my brother, reconnected with an old friend... pretty Meh day so far.

you said he was reporting the news, he does not. if you are going to pretend to be impartial yourself, you should at least understand why that makes a difference. this is a pretty silly statement. nonsense. lying? isn't this just your "opinion?" sometimes you people really amaze me. You can't STAND IT that other people have their own opinions, and you regularly make your opinions out to be fact. wow. taks He reports his opinions as if they're the news. Thus he's (in his mind, and in the minds of some of his mindless fans) being a true newsman rather than just a commentator or opinion person. As to the lying, You yourself stated that the commentators have opinions, and thus are allowed to be partisan. However O'Reilly's show has been advertised as the "No spin zone" when all he is is a conservative spin machine. At least he doesn't try to sell his religion like some of the others on his station (who ostensibly ARE newsmen). I'm fine with Opinions, but represent your opinions as opinions. I have opinions, you have opinions, but to simply discard them, and the fact that my opinions are different than yours about what the news is and how it should be handled, and effectively call the other person an idiot isn't exactly the greatest debate strategy. I gotta say, you're basically being hypocritical here. You're saying that I'm having opinions that I'm making out to be fact and thus I should be put to the torch and burned as a heretic of knowledge, and yet you defend the commentators who do the exact same thing as if they're unable to do no wrong because some guy in a suit came out and said "Well, they're not news, technically" three months ago in a memo to the presses because they got yelled at about not presenting news, or truthful news or something in the past. Similarly you can present opinions that are dead wrong (see: young earth creationism), and even in the face of facts you can basically put your fingers in your ears and yell to drown out what you consider to be the blithering of idiots but that still doesn't make your opinion correct. Are there liberal pundits? Yes, Keith Olberman (or however you spell it) is probably the most obvious of these, I can make no comment on the other gentleman that you mentioned as I don't actually watch his shows/networks. As I showed in the other thread, Glenn Beck in particular is fairly good at taking opinions, making them sound like facts, then twisting those facts to make the folks who he dislikes into demonic entities of some kind. He took a jestful statement by Anita Dunn (after she called fox the research and PR arm of republican party) and twisted it so that she was a zealous follower of Mao Zedong who was going to transform america with her boss into a totalitarian communist state and then effectively tried to link her to Hitler in peoples minds by saying that she loves Mien Kampf. I'm sorry, but even if that's his opinion, he's wrong, and yet you're here defending these actions and others like it because "it's opinion", when it was clearly presented to the audience as facts that Ms. Dunn was a communist follower of Mao Zedong and Adolf Hitler.
-
beck is a conservative opinion analyst, no different than chris matthews (on the left). i was right, you don't know the difference. taks I know the difference, but that doesn't mean I have to say "Oh, well he's an opinion commentator" (I'd hardly call him an analyst given he doesn't really analyze as much as manipulate) and simply let anything he says go fairly well unchecked because "It's his opinion". If you have an opinion, you should at least try to back it up with facts if you're going to represent the idea as fact. Also outright lying in your advertising campaigns (No spin zone anyone?) doesn't exactly speak well of programs.
