  1. The 120mm shot was huge overkill in any case. The Abrams has two machine guns which could just as easily done the job. Besides HEAT blow chunks of stuff around ...ach it's just daft. If they were Brits they'd get a proper bo*****king from their NCO, just for wasting ammo.
  2. The guy on the right looks like a target in Operation: Wolf.
  3. If you don't shut up about black I'm going to arrange for hamsters to eat your eyes right out of their sockets.
  4. You've obviously never been around penguins talking politics. Man, you thought _I_ was bad.... And presumably the land is useful because it permits you to extend your territorial waters out around it. It could be a foot across and be useful in this respect. I'd love to see an analysis of the comparative forces of Denmark and Canada, but I'm betting the Canucks would be the bigger. Certainly in naval terms.
  5. Apparently, those are the pics the Egyptian police have released.
  6. I think it's important to understand that while it is unacceptable, troops who are suffering the stress of combat are not identically at fault as civilians who machine gun unarmed men. Military discipline demands that they be treated more harshly, but don't think of them in the same way. It is also important to understand that, without excusing such behaviour, it is a habit of Al Qaeda influenced fighters to not surrender according to the conventions of war. It is very common for them to indicate surrender only to kill soldiers who attempt to take them into custody. As a consequence I think it is understandable that soldiers are unwilling to accept surrender. Illegal, and wrong, but understandable.
  7. One of my coleagues informs me that you could make one out of wood. It would just have to be huge, and probably a waste of time and effort. Except of course, that it would make a great hideout. "Tell me where's he's gone." "Alright. I'll talk. Just quit hitting me. He's gone to the wooden satellite orbiting Perseus 8" *Bing bang boom biff*
  8. Not having seen the video I did not realise they were doing that. That is unacceptable.
  9. Police have released pictures of the suspects in the recent bomb attacks in Egypt. "We believe them to be late eighties videogame characters. If the public find them running around in the background of a game they are playing, whether it be Street Fighter or Bubble Bobble, they are advised to push LEFT LEFT A and B buttons together, and throw them into the poorly rendered lava." Said the chief investigator today. (Thanks to Tyrell)
  10. Wooden satellite? Now I KNOW you're smoking crack.
  11. We could get round the stiltedness by having the persons concerned either a) robots b) insane c) on drugs d) aliens Or possibly all four at once.
  12. Michael Biehn rocks. I also liked the bit in the director's cut of aliens with the sentry guns. We so.... have to get some of those one of these days. Although I suspect it would be funnier if it was a full-auto shotgun...
  13. When I wasa kid I really loved converse type takkies, because they were so simple you could just wear them 24/7, put them through anything. Even go swimming in them.
  14. I lost my taste for that stuff a long while back. I don't mind soldiers laughing about it. It's one of the few ways to handle the stress of constant danger, by making fun of things. But there's no excuse for chuckling from the safety of a computer screen. But I know that just my opinion. You do what you like.
  15. what?
  16. Krakow and Marilith, made by the same author. I can't even begin to explain why.
  17. Again, the Iranian thing is an interpretation of Islamic theology into law. As I said elsewhere, rule by the few without democratic checks on the few tends to produce hokey laws. Plus since homosexuality has been illegal up until relatively recently in a great many countries I don't think we can afford to stow thrones at Islam. Besides, Iran is changing at a really surprising pace. I expect this kind fo thing will be firmly in the past in ten or fifteen years.
  18. It seems he was from Brazil, and a tough area. Over there, no cops are regarded as safe, uniformed or not! I guess he was also feeling the cold more than we do 'cause back home its a lot hotter. A damn shame, really. But like we've been saying, the point is not "Oh yea. Glad that happened." But "Crud. Well, at least we know the cops will do the right thing if they _are_ confronting a suicide bomber."
  19. I don't need to see a video of a guy getting hit by a HEAT round to know he's going to be owned.
  20. I know it sounds corny talking about evil, but the further I get away from innocence about the world the more I think it's OK as a description of some things.
  21. I was joking and being deliberately absurd. I had hoped that using three smilies might have made that obvious. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry. Am a bit dim, sometimes.
  22. Find some iron. Sniff it. It has a smell.
  23. I was always told to check the heel of the shoe. If the man only polishes the toecap, that tells you a great deal.
  24. I want to start a suit against Civ III when I take over a nation and begin advocating genocide of our enemies.
  25. Maybe the solution is to deputise people to 'write' or act out greater themes, like run nations, control the guard or the press and so on. This would set up more involving rand currents, than just random questing and monster bashing. I think the LRP community in the UK do this sort of thing.
