  1. powered usb is not out of the question. I just don't know why you need it, when you need it. Sounds like maybe I should be loking at just buying a bunch of extension cables? Seems a bit cack.
  2. who's to say they didn't verify the sources? I mean we don't exactly see everything they told us. I only know what I read in the papers. They might well have verified the sources as existing. In which case a) my sources have been misleading me b) the contrary sources have missed an opportunity to attack their opponents for deception
  3. My mum, being sickly, is confined often to a chair. We currently run the monitor, mouse and keyboard of her desktop PC up to the chair. The place s getting crowded with USB cables. Given she also uses a USB memory stick often I obviously thought of getting a hub. Investigating I discover that normal hubs may not be enough, as we will have several devices drawing power at once (stick, keyboard, mouse, possibly camera),. The extension from the PC has to be a metre or two if possible. I know this sounds simple, but I'd prefer a personal recommendation that I can count on working. I have to mail it to the old baggage, and she'll freak if it isn't working perfectly.

    Books

I'm reading Eastern Approaches by Nicholas MacClean. Diplomat to Soviet Russia during the purges, and SAS man in the war. Riveting stuff. Great insights into the mindset of the Imperial ruling classes.
  5. Not yet you don't...
  6. I put together this mix CD (all paid for) for the weekend just gone 1. Yumeji's theme - Umebayashi Shigeru 2. Knockin on Heaven's door - Antony and the Jonsons 3. Prizefighter - Eels 9. W**k yer dog - The Highliners 10. Walk Like a Panther - All Seeing I 11. Salem Blues - Seasick Steve Wondering what you chaps thought about the person who likely got it, and about my headstate.
  7. I'm sorry to hear that, man. Um... not much more I can say. Hope you're bearing up ok.
  8. I was in a public bar. He was one of those thin flanked, stooped old men who normally keep to themselves, until they remind you that scrawny young thugs get old too. It would not be the first time an old man has tried to stab me. Although on that occasion I was actively annoying him by pretending I understood his story (being todl me in a drunken ramble in a foreign language). I thought I was being polite when I was actually taking the piss. On Sundaynight I came very close to punching the crap out of a different old man who was being grossly touchy feely with one of my friends. She is (like most of my female friends) very capable of handling herself, and of a sufficiently strong mind to indicate if she wants help. Moreover I don't generally approve of hitting people who have no hope of offerring resistance. But I was more tempted than I have been in years. Anyway. Another story. I still suggest you discredit the creepy wee sod.
  9. I must agree with Aristes comment about juridical proof. I urge you to do the same. Because otherwise you may go about believing almost anything, and that is one certificate away from insanity.
  10. Sorry. I was a little affected on Saturday when an elderly urban savage informed me that he intended to stab me. I am pleased to say that I informed him in turn that having been stabbed before and while I believed him in earnest, I was not in the least scared of his succeeding. This was probably a mistake in provoking his anger, but I believe i correctly judged his principle intent of causing fear and he buggered off.
  11. EDIT: The Man Who Was Thursday read by the BBC. Get them while they're hot. Rand sounds to me from your reports as if she is simply a rich anarchist. I recommend she be treated like all anarchists and sent to Mogadishu to experience anarchy.
  12. I don't wish to be rude, but I have very little time for any claim that supposes a conspiracy where incompetence is a viable option. Conspiracy in general is nonsense for the very simple reason that ALL human organised endeavour is generally a nonsense. As I said originally, my instinct is that the reports are genuine. However, without any verification how can one take the reports seriously? It can be reported as news, if only as an illustration of the contentious nature of the issue. But my point is that reporting it without mentioning the issue of credibility is deliberately misleading. I suppose one might construe hypocrisy in my two statements above. I am contradicting myself by assuming a conspiracy where incompetence is possible.
  13. ...And risk jail or public scandal. That would be the action of the homeless, lifeless thug.
  14. This is about the organization called breaking the silence and how it gets reported, you can't separate the topic from its context, well you can, but what would be the point of offering the example at all then. You might have picked something less charged if you didn't want the one overshadowing the other though. I'm not saying it's devoid of context. If it were I wouldn't have linked the story. But I wanted the focus on the actions of the press. Sources are commonly anonymous. But generally, one expects a source to be at least verified by other journalists. I don't know if these were, but supposing someone had allowed other people to meet these sources it would have been mentioned somewhere. Instead it seems to me as credible as an internet claim of 'some guy told me'.
  15. OUTRAGE! Andy Hamilton would be absolutely ****ing perfect for Tyrion the dwarf dude. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HgK6nX7iA4 He's the dwarf with the bald head and beard.
  16. My opinion on Sand's heredity is a matter of public record. but i agree that I am instantly suspicious of anyone who claims everyone is a bastard. They generally turn out to be preparing an excuse for their own behaviour. 'Don't blame me, man. I'm like everyone else.' As they make off with your spleen. I can't say I followed all of pop's post. There was a good deal about privileged white men, so naturally I unpacked the maxim gun just in case you native johnnies got any funny ideas. Besides that i think I agree. Botswana is something i know a little about through friends. they used to be doing well until the free market yoinked away the factories and so forth, because cheaper workers suddenly cropped up elsewhere. With no legal protection, workers literally turned up to work after the weekend and found empty buildings. The free Market Fairy didn't protect those poor sods. She did something indecent to them with her wand.
  17. I should be clear: I don't agree with your having read his email. You're not Dr Quincy. You don't have magic rights to go doing stuff like that. I mean, what if you'd been wrong? Then YOU'D be the arsehole. If you don't know what kinds of information he's leaking then create some different kinds of information and release them to him. Simple.
  18. I had a bloody weird weekend. Chased my ex some more, with mixed results. I honestly think she just can't make up her mind. If she's looking to settle down then I'm up for it as she is very smart, very caring and extremely hawt. But if she's going to go the other way and try to get me to go travelling with her for the next couple of years like she's thinking of, then - while I'd love it - it's just not the right thing to do. Dammit, sometimes i hate being clear headed. Why can't I be 18 again and not think beyond the end of the week? Lined up some work yesterday. Paid on comission, but it's better than nothing. Sort of sales reconnaissance/ techno-pimping.
  19. There are three things you can do with a leak: 1) plug it 2) Remove it from your affairs 3) feed it selected information If i were you, seriously, I'd save yourself the trouble of moving out by feeding him information with is either oddly flattering or will serve to allow you to discredit him later. Discrediting him later would serve the dual purpose of calling into question everything he's leaked already!
  20. Er... we've had socialised healthcare for years and there's no more things banned over here than in the US.
  21. Sweet Jesus. What a k****z****n
  22. Unfair practice from an employer does not simply result in people not chosing to work for them. Review recent What Have You Done Today for illustrations. That's why we have employment law. You might just as well say that government should not enforce anti-fraud law because the market will simply stop doing business with them. Incidentally, I presume you gentlemen would also like to take all the saturated fat and processed sugar out of soldier's diets, in addition to stopping them smoking and staying up late partying. That would all serve to reduce the insurance bills, what? I'm sure our squaddies won't mind.
  23. You got a point there, Kitty. But you'll admit that celebs are the new aristocracy. Rules don't apply to them, most of the time.
