Are 'violent' games really violent?
I think something you may concede is that the transition from fantasy to reality, when we are taliking about violence with gun, petrol, and knife, is all too quick. There is hardly enough time to notice one's distaste for all the mess in the middle of a shooting.

What you did today
Took myself to the pub to go through my notebook and harvest any genuine insights. A chance commment got me talking to a bloke at the bar who subsequently turned out to be a former para turned military contractor. Drank rather a lot. Had a fascinating evening. Learned a lot of stuff. Still drunk. Too drunk to sleep.

Nope. I just didn't know what it meant. Besides which I'm going to pretend he meant most valuable as in camels. As in camels per pound of your pasty goth flesh.

I am not trying to deny the role of acetaldehyde. I'm simply saying that the affective experience of hangover is in the CNS. I'm also saying that there's bugger all you can do about acetaldehyde but you can do something about these other features. "The drinking strain falls mainly on the brain"

Are 'violent' games really violent?
I think you forgot a "that" in there somewhere... And I don't recall reading a study that said that. I'm not saying that there isn't one, though. I do think that the idiot who said he shot cops because he did so in GTA was "preaching to the choir." People hate new things; because games weren't around 20 years ago, they get blamed for societal problems that they're not connected to. The same happened to rock back in the '60s, and look how that turned out. What did I just say? All I'm pushing towards is the notion that the testable null hypothesis is that heavy doses of realistic violent gaming has NO effect on children where there is a weak array of contending normative pressures.

I don't see what's wrong about a good friend leaving and you getting upset.

Terrorists
We're getting sidetracked and derailed. On the plus side I'm beginning to think this guy may not be an alt after all. No one even remotely sane could use so many inverted commas. A few quick points: 1. You find it impossible that the Soviets could have provoked a movement which later came back to bite them, but it's very likely that the USA would. 2. You claim the media are fascist, which isn't true, but then... 3. ...you also say "my country could easily rule the earth." which I think gilt-edges your overall character portrait. I don't mean to do down Turkey, because I happen to regard the country as one of the most dynamic and important potential EU member states. 4. You keep referring to Christian nations. It seems to me that you are trying to paint this as a battle of religions when it is no such thing. It is a battle between free nations and a self-appoint cabal of repressive arseholes. 5. Would you care to justify the thousands killed by Al Qaeda affiliates in Iraq and Afghanistan in attacks on schools, marketplaces, and other public amenities? Of course youw ould, because you are an apologist if not a sympathiser, and I call on you to own up and say so clearly and distinctly. ~~ This morning's news in the UK has focussed on the deaths of five soldiers who were shot by an 'undercover' Afghan policeman, and several papers have stated it calls into question our entire strategy. I think it could not be more wrong. The fact that the greatest losses coalition forces have suffered is down to things like treachery and helicopter accidents illustrates precisely why parrallels with Vietnam are so completely ignorant.

I trump you, sir, because I heard this direct from a professor who specialised in such matters. It was the best attended course in my entire time as a psych undergrad. 1. The exact behaviour of ethanol is not known/very diverse. Once it dives into the lipid membrane it declares shenanigans on the transmitter proteins. 2. Water is essential. You are dried out. This mainly hurts because the membranes in your CNS are trying to peel away. It's why a really stonking hangover is like sunstroke. 3. All alcoholic beverages contain a percentage of methanol [not in the lecture, just common knowledge]. Industrial alcohol, like that in the drink called aftershock, contains a higher percentage. Spend a night drinking malt whisky, and a night drinking an equivalent qualtity of aftershock or apple sourz. Tell me they're the same.

I have to say that the Finnish move struck me as almost risible in light of the multifarious genuine human rights being abused around the world. I don't wish to sound complacent about this move, but being denied a paid service rarely requires a court case. If a bar doesn't like the look of you, out you go. If your manners aren't up to scratch, bye bye restaurant. I've seen a man thrown out of a movie theatre for smelling too much. So don't kid yourself about this being struck down in court. It DOES bother me that the same shiftless bastards who fail to fix tech-support issues will be marking me down as law abiding or not. I wouldn't trust them to adjudicate a lightswitch.

Poisoning? It's a conspiracy I tells ya! Hangovers are caused by (in order of significance): 1. Low blood sugar exacerbated by insulin/glucagon shenanigans. Simply eating a bag of candy won't help because your body doesn't release stored energy the way it normally does so when you spike then trough you'll just stay in a trough. You need slow release carbs like you get in porridge. 2. Dehydration. In fact you probably start out the night before as dehydrated so before going to bed drink a couple of pints of water. It sounds crazy but this makes a massive difference. 3. Direct poisoning by methanols and such.

Let me assure you that if you move house more than once a decade you'll be glad not to be burdened by jewel cases. Actually there was a problem last night when I discovred that the propellerheads aren't on the damn service I use.

Hey now! I think London is a wonderful place. A truly unique experience for us colonials. Of course, any place that gets tons of visitors can get to be old for the locals. That said, I still love Las Vegas. You're only saying that because Vegas has taken your sister hostage and is making her serve shrimp ****tail to pasty guys with sad faces from too much keno.
