Slept on my experiences of yesterday and am feeling refreshed and positive. It may have been humiliating to fail so signally, but until I change in light of what I've learned it was always going to be on the cards. Sunny day, bacon and eggs for breakfast. Huzzah!

Did appallingly bad job in sales pitch today. Was shaken by... I have no idea. Something went awry with my ego, anyway. So I'm doing what any redblooded halfwit would do... I'm off to the pub.

I'm in the middle of the narrative history Rifles by Mark Urban, which follows the 95th, of TV's Sharpe fame. It reads like a novel, but Urban is a pretty solid historian. I'd heartily recommend it on many levels. It's an interesting look at a revolutionary point in warfare, but also full of insights into the complications of a world built almost entirely on hereditary privilege, and some fantastic carachter sketches which I intend to use in my roleplaying campaign.

I believe I may have already mentioned that you can't be normal and extraordinary.

Beaufort Don't read the review as such, just watch the film. Easily the most tense war film I've ever seen, and hardly touches on politics. Really much more of a view from the ground of Israel in Lebanon (towards the end). But applicable to many other conflicts. Watch it.

The generation of consciousness requires energy. The principle of conservation would suggest to me that consciousness is not some 'other' form of energy. On the other hand, I would describe consciousness as an effect rather than a material flow.

Many seem more interested in technical work that they can understand using information technology. If you work a technical angle in it is also possible you can get EPSRC funding. A very good university I've had dealings with is Bath University, and they are quite famous. I've also just been doing some work with professors from Brunel University which is a lot less famous, but could be a bargain.

That is weird, isnt it? I always noticed it with UK bands. Like you listen to the Beatles talk in an interview and they clearly have the accent yet when the sing theres no accent at all. yesterday I swung my PhD interview, and got permission to seek part time funding with the blessings of the university. I also did some other work stuff which took until midnight. This has left me all in all feeling rather smug and burned out. Today's plan is to have a mate of mine round, and we shall goof off, drink beer, play games, and cook massive quantities of food. Then try to get everyone out for a gig this evening.

I don't want to pee on your chips, Tigs, but there's feth all funding for PhDs knocking around. Or at least those which can't prove some serious industry or scientific credibility. I think it would be awesome to have you come over. But you need to be told about the money.

I should probably watch it before passing sentence.

I know it's bone obvious, but attacking the elderly should be considered especially significant in sentencing. You just can't attack old people. It's pathetic.

Trying it now... EDIT: You must be thinking of the presentation package. I'm talking about documents. I've had some success using a footer for every page. I put the logo in one footer and it turns up on every page. I can also put a background colour in the footer which looks rather nice. You can add a background picture to all pages when you go to "Format"->"Page"->"Background". Unfortunately, this only allows pictures to be placed in the center or a corner, Aha. Ingenious. Thanks.
