  1. Would that be the third and last DirectDraw test? The full screen bouncing box? * EDIT * What is shown under the Direct X Files tab? Any problems? It may be a directX problem. You could quickly try reinstalling Direct X from CD 1 (run dxsetup.exe from the DirectX folder on the CD). Lots of mentions of Direct Draw test problems on the web, but nothing useful yet...
  2. I've seen that sort of problem before, although not with KotOR. On my set up - Widescreen TFT monitor - any game which tries to use a refresh rate higher than 60 fps appears off-centre to the left of the display edge. Not a problem, I just change the refresh rate in the game, use the nVidia settings to force 60 fps if the game doesn't let me, or just live with it (it's very, very subtle). None of which fits your problem very well. Are you seeing a vertical mis-alignment? Just the bottom half or thereabouts of the movie? If so, does the game play correctly in 640 x 480? If it does (even if the movies are still off-centre) then it makes me doubt that this is the right explanation... Otherwise, they may be onto something... There appear to have been some changes made to the resolution that movies play back at with 1.0B patch. Although the underlying quality of the movie hasn't been addressed yet (still waiting LA), the movie is played at a higher resolution that 640 x 480 now. Do you have 1.0B patch?
  3. In the folder where Kotor II is installed (UK/US default C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR2), there may or may not be a folder called Override. If there isn't just create it. Extract the files from the fix into the Override folder. To remove the fix just remove the files and/or the folder.
  4. Correct. It's the scene where Visas declares her love for a male PC and then meditate together (as shown in glorious force sight-o-vision). For those who think there is not enough romance/love/sex, that scene became known as the "Force Sex" scene.
  5. Apologies in advance, but reload your last save and fight them again. This sometimes happens with the Twilek sisters - the Twin Suns - and can't be fixed; you can't proceed until you have fought them all.
  6. I could post an actual explanation at this point, buy why spoil it when we're all having fun?
  7. Nothing that should have that sort of effect on something as simple as the windows xp start screen... * EDIT * Can't find anything that sounds similar on the nVidia forums. Does this show up anywhere else, besides the game and the start screen? Anyone else want to jump in with ideas while I get some sleep?
  8. Hmmm. Might want to try a clean reinstall of the video drivers then: Remove the old driver in the control panel add/remove programs. Reboot. Run driver cleaner (You can get that from here). You'd be amazed how much rubbish gets left behind by the installer. Nobble your anti-virus. Reinstall the driver. Reboot. This is without a doubt the best way to install a new graphics/sound driver. Paranoid people swear by it...
  9. Yup, the remote wasn't destroyed, just disabled so G0-T0 could have his wicked way with it. I don't know, doesn't alcohol work anymore? I regularly have Bao-Dur's repair skill high enough to trigger the upgrade scene with G0-T0 and the similar upgrade scene with the remote where he gets the ability to repair droids and a better weapon. Nothing puts HK-47 back in the game on Malachor, though. That scene was definitely cut. Without the HK Factory and/or the droid planet (or pretty much any encounter with HK-50s after you had rebuilt HK-47) you just don't have a vital piece of information to make that scene make sense. Not that it makes sense with what was left in, anyway...
  10. OK, just talking half-remembered drivel then. Nothing new...
  11. Same card here and no problem with movies (apart from ambient sound disappearing after the movie plays, but everyone gets that). What driver version are you using? What does your swkotor.ini look like?
  12. Remind me: if you killed Juhani, didn't you get the equally annoying Jedi who tried to tear a strip off you for not wearing a robe when you entered the Jedi enclave on Dantooine for the first time? You met up with her again outside the Sith academy on Korriban. Anyone do this? What was she like as an NPC?
  13. OK - assuming I am reading this right: Your character is a Consular which has a base skill points per level of 2. The actual skill points awarded per level also includes your INT modifier, which, with an INT of 8 will award you with 1 skill point point per level (2 minus 1 for INT). What would happen with a Guardian with an INT of 8, I don't know. I often start with a sentinel. With a standard INT build of 14, I get 5 skill points per level (3 plus 2 for INT). When I switch to a prestige class of Weapon Master, I get 3 skill points per level (1 plus 2 for INT).
  14. What's your INT? For every two points of INT above 10 you gain a skill point, for every 2 below you lose one... Skill point information here.
  15. It sounds like C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR2\StreamMusic\mus_a_100dark.wav, but it's not really a .wav file at all. You will need the Miles Sound Tools player to play it back.
  16. I never hated Juhani, I just hated the fact that the important convo option was never there: "So, your homeplanet was destroyed, you where forced to live on Taris where you were despised as a non Tarisian and confined to a Lower City slum, your father was murdered, your mother was worked to death to pay off a debt that wasn't hers, and you were nearly sold into slavery. And you are worried about being angry?!?! It's normal to be angry, it's OK to be angry. It doesn't mean that you aren't a Jedi. Now kindly get over it..."
  17. A couple of threads with people having similar problems: Can't patch Patch won't install Just in case it helps.
  18. There shouldn't be, but there has been. Some - possibly willful, possibly overly hopeful - misinterpretations of their work in progress pages and audio updates has led to some rather silly questions being posted on the progress thread on their own forums. As soon as one of the devs says that he is 20% away from completing the part of the project he is currently working upon, someone will pop-up and say "OK, so it's nearly finished, when are you going to release it". If I were them, it would get me down; especially after they have gone to great lengths to explain on their FAQ page (sadly missed at the moment) that they weren't going to give a date until they could set it in stone...
  19. Agreed and agreed. I think we have latched on to the movies and music patches' existence as proof that this game will not be abandoned by LucasArts and Obsidian, and that has elevated its importance far beyond anything it deserves in and of itself.
  20. A lot done, a lot still to do, last I heard. They have begun investigating the format that the mod will finally be delivered in and decided upon 7zip. They have also started talking about whether the mod can be used transparently with an existing save game or whether it would be better to start again (consensus is start again - they have modified files that are copied within the save games themselves; all sorts of strangeness could ensue otherwise). All of this is very encouraging as it seems that they can see the end of the tunnel, but I think they will hold off on any sort of release schedule until they are ready to start beta testing. They are very conscious of the criticisms levelled at Obsidian for the delays in delivering game patches and determined not to fall foul of the same...
  21. You should get together with character from the TSL/RP forums who wanted to make sweet music with HK-47. You would have much in common; strait-jackets for a start
  22. The redemption quest cannot be completed (bugged). The battle circle/scout hunt quests cannot be completed once the Sith Assassin attack has been triggered. The akkhere bonus quest cannot be completed once the Mercenary attack on Khoonda has been triggered. The galactic history bonus mission has to be completed in conversation with Kreia before arriving on Telos (the critical part of the convo is that the threat is dirrected at you). Nevermind, you'll do a lot better on a replay, and the game is definitely worth it. The rest of your quests hinge on Nar Shaddaa. To advance the plot here you need to trigger an invite from Visquis of the exchange to meet him in the Jek Jek Tar. You can do this by pleasing/annoying the exchange. To annoy them, help Vogga's dockmaster with the pylons and docking sequences, help the Bith scientist, strike a deal with Vogga to suppy fuel to Telos, help Lootra recover his wife, side with the Rodian merchant against the Duros, bust up the deal between the Twilek and the thugs and provoke a fight in the exchange base and kill Saquesh and his guards. Alternatively you can pay the little guy inside the entertainment module 2,000 credits. To please them, sabotage the swoop droid, kill the Serroco veterans or persuade them to come to a deal with the exchange, persuade Lootra to join the exchange, side with the Duros merchant against the Rodian, persuade Saquesh that he has to act against the sick man to remove a plague-carrier, and, obviously, leave Saquesh and his guards alive. When you have been successful you will see a cutscene between the Troydarian (the guy who challenged you at the landing pad) and the Red Eclipse slavers. This is the beginning of a long cinematic sequence of scripted events that leads you to Visquis and ultimately leads you to Goto. Atton can become a Jedi after Nar Shadda. The important sequence is when two Twileks approach you in the Refugee sector to tell you something about his past...
  23. Atton's declaration of love for a female PC hit the cutting room floor along with much of the other end-game cut material. Bao-Dur's character should have had more depth from a mind-reading scene that went missing in the same cutting room. Disciple is too much of a wuss to declare anything. The TSL Restoration Project is commited to restoring both these pieces of missing content. Male PC's get a better deal: Handmaiden obviously wants to feel the intensity of feeling that her father had for her mother - enough that he would break his vows and obligations - and has dialogue which heavily hints that you are the lucky one she wants to break her vows and obligations with. Visas declares her love after the final visit to Dantooine in a rather touching speech (often derided as the "force sex" bit, but, in truth, it is well written by adults for adults). Mira remains aloof - saying she would have to show the others who was the leader of the pack - but a mind reading scene reveals her interest, if nothing else. * EDIT * The intention was to create a triangle between two of the three characters (of the appropriate gender) - Atton/Disciple or Handmaiden/Visas - that would (could) lead to a confrontation in another end-game sequence that went missing (TSL/RP again). The romance as such is much more subtle than that of the first KotOR and (in the opinion of a 35 year-old male) much better for it.
  24. Do you have anti-virus software running? Some people have reported problems installing the 1.0B patch without stopping their anit-virus. My download froze towards the end and wouldn't complete. Second time - without AVG Free - was fine. UK version, too.
