  1. Playing further into the game, I'm reminded of why combat, in general, in Far Cry games is more annoying than fun.
  2. Already came across a frustrating mission in Far Cry 5. I had to tail a helicopter using a vehicle, but simply could not finish the mission because the friggin' vehicles steer like you're riding in a bath tub with no steering wheel. I'd forgotten how bad the driving controls were in the Far Cry series. I was quickly reminded of it.
  3. Started up Far Cry 5. Very, very early in. I kind of like the setting so far. One thing I have to get used to is the inventory management of explosives. I can't seem to figure out how to switch explosives like I can my guns. I ended up tossing away a dynamite stick for no reason because I was trying to "cycle" to the remote C4.
  4. Finally finished the main story in Assassin's Creed Origins. It was decent enough as you got further in, but the Aya bits annoyed me to no end. I hate games that allow you to build up your character, both in terms of skills and equipment/weapons/abilities, to only then force you to control another character who has none of those. "Here, lets have you spend 100 hours building up your character and acquiring the best gear ever, only to now force you to fight with a stick against one of the main bad guys!" Idiotic. Also, the blocking with a shield simply does not work. I have a legendary shield equipped, and even low level cannon fodder enemies swing past the block and do damage. If you're going to add a blocking mechanism to combat, make sure it works.
  5. The main story ended up being longer than I thought. The sidequests aren't as engaging, I find, as previous AC sidequests.
  6. Bought Far Cry 5, but I'm still finishing up AC Origins. I thought I was closer to finishing off the main quest than I actually was.
  7. Two of the new combat features in AC Origins that don't seem to actually work 99% of the time. 1-Blocking. This one I don't think has worked even once since the tutorial mode that originally shows you how to do it. Every single time I block, the enemy just hacks into me as though I didn't even do anything. 2-Double assassination. On the PS4, you're supposed to press the triangle button when the prompt comes up right after you assassinate the first enemy in order to instantly throw a knife to assassinate the second one. Cool feature, when it works. Which is rarely. Usually I assassinate one enemy, in slow motion, while the other enemy turns and sees me and pressing the triangle button does nothing. So frustrating.
  8. Ran into my first semi-game breaking bug in AC Origins. I had to assassinate a fort captain to complete a quest, but the captain somehow got stuck "under" the floor and wouldn't come out. So I had to re-start the entire quest in order to finish it.
  9. Still pushing through AC Origins. So many random characters showing up that know Bayek, yet I have no clue who they are or why I should care about them.
  10. At the very least, there should have been a better counter system in place. I don't know who designed that combat system, but I hope whoever it was isn't in charge for the next installment.
  11. The problem I have with the fighting is it's so clunky. The shield doesn't actually block anything 95% of the time, and if your opponent has a shield, it's so incredibly clunky to try and dodge/strike because when you dodge, he still turns around to block you 95% of the time. The 5% he doesn't block you, your dodge seems to carry you way too far to land a counter strike.
  12. I'm losing all steam with Assassin's Creed Origins. The main quest, which is what usually keeps me interested in most video games, seems like nothing more than a glorified bounty hunting side quest. I get that's been the formula for pretty much every AC game before this one, but there was usually more flesh to the story, more lead up to the actual "finally kill this boss". Far Cry 5 comes out next week, so I might as well just power through the rest of the main story and move on.
  13. Maybe it's just the time period, but I really am struggling through AC Origins. The main story's never been tremendous in any of the previous ACs, but they were usually "good enough" to keep my interest. This one, I really don't even get the point. They've got the detail of what you'd see in most side quests that require you to go kill a "boss". I'm a completionist, so I'll end up finishing it. But the main missions are just so lacking that I find the only enjoyment I have is sneaking around and killing all the bad guys holed up in forts.
  14. I'm still confused, but thank you.
  15. What other RPG is this most similar with? I'm trying to decide whether to buy it or not, but I'd like to hear comparable games first to know whether or not it's a game that will ultimately keep my interest.
  16. More Assassin's Creed Origins. Giza was the emptiest of the "main quest" maps. Short main quest, very few side quests. I don't think there was even a blacksmith/weaver there. On to Memphis, where more seems to be going on.
  17. I think I realized why AC: Origins' quests don't seem as good as in previous games. This time around, each main quest is short and to the point (not very many, if any, steps involved from start to finish), and each side quest seems to have very little to do with the main quest. In previous games (at least the ones I recall), it seemed like everything mingled together. Side quests made sense in the context of how completing them tied to the main quest. For instance, doing a side quest to save factory workers as a favor for some dude tied into the main quest because that dude was helping you, and also because doing so weakened your enemy in that region. Doesn't seem to be that same connection this time around from what I've seen.
  18. Heh... glad I wasn't the first to ask that. I feel like I'm out of the loop on all things Obsidian. Chris Avellone still works at Obsidian, right?
  19. I hate doing any quests in Assassins Creed that involves having to escort/protect civilians. Dumb computer AI ultimately rears its ugly head, seeing them run out in the open, charge toward a group of enemies, then get hacked to death because they don't have the sense to let me finish off the bad guys first.
  20. More Assassin's Creed Origins. I'm torn between whether to sell all my extra gear or dismantle it for building material. On one hand, selling it will give me more gold to buy stuff I want. It also allows me to upgrade current gear that I like. But on the other hand, dismantling the gear for building material allows me to upgrade the various damage and health components quicker without having to wander around the wilderness looking for animals to kill.
  21. Weird. Because I think it's easily the best looking Assassin's Creed game so far. It's actually so pretty that I've enjoyed the built-in camera feature, and that's definitely a first for me. Maybe it's the system? I'm playing on the PS4.
  22. Playing through Assassin's Creed Origins and I'm finding I don't even really know what I'm supposed to do. I mean, I know that I'm trying to kill these masked guys for (spoiler redacted), but it's so vague. Maybe the story gets more refined as I go on, but early on it feels almost like a Bethesda main quest where it's secondary to just being able to travel around and do stuff. Previous AC games seemed to have a more detailed story with various side quests, whereas this one has various side quests with a filler main story to move you around the map.
  23. Maybe it's just my perception, but the graphics in Assassin's Creed Origins don't look any better than previous installments. In some cases, the character models look less refined.
  24. Wandering around in Assassin's Creed Origins. I'm just collecting pelts and stuff, plus the odd assassinations if any of the bad guys drifts too far away from his companions. They seem to have taken a page out of the Witcher 3 (or most RPGs, at that) with their branching skill trees where you can focus on one of three different styles of assassins. I like the sleep and poison darts, so I'm working on the Seer path right now. It probably won't matter in the end as I'll likely accumulate enough skill points to fill all three paths.
  25. Done with Destiny 2, on to the new Assassin's Creed.
