In that case, there was one QTE that bugged me. It was a fist fight scene, but the button hitting was frustrating because as soon as one button would flash for me to hit, I'd hit that button, and immediately another button would flash and gave me no time to react.
-
I never know what people mean when they say QTE. Quote The Elf? Witcher 2 is my new favorite game for 2012. That's not that high praise given its competition, however.

Did Babylon 5 introduce a Radiant Youth/Starchild/Godchild out of the blue, too?

I'm somewhere in Chapter 1 in the Witcher 2 right now. Pretty cool game so far. I'm liking the story thus far. Oh, and I've had sex with Triss twice now.

I lol'd at the Mass Effect 3 run part.

Decided to go out and pick up the Witcher 2 for the 360. I'm still in the prologue, but it's solid so far. I got to see Triss naked, which is always fun. :D

Any descent gaming news/reviews site?
GhostofAnakin replied to Reddie's topic in Computer and Console
I use the big gaming review sites for information about the games (ie. what features it has, when it will be released, etc.), but I don't bother with their actual reviews. Especially the big gaming review sites that are obviously giving scores based on advertising money, rather than because the game actually warrants it. For actual "reviews", it's basically a combination of just reading forums. While gamers obviously have their biases, at least for the most part their reviews are genuine. They're not giving a game a 10/10 because they got paid to do so. -
For those of us who haven't played Risen, what other game does Risen 2 most closely resemble?

Still no XBox360 version? Bah!

I have a harder time with the more story-based long games nowadays as well. Though I think, for me at least, that it's not so much a problem with a game being long per say, it's just that most long games have a lot of filler in them. Or at least really boring sections. I find I'm getting increasingly non-tolerant towards that. DS3 was pretty good about that I think, most of the time the areas get switched up before you get really bored of them. I think Glitterdelve is the only location where I feel it goes on for just a bit too long but even then it's not that bad. Dragon Age was a game I really enjoyed on my first playthrough and I still like it, but yeah... Some parts of it are really hard to replay. Similarily, I'm replaying the Witcher 1 at the moment and some bits are very tedious to go through again. Same with the second game. A long game like New Vegas though is no problem to replay for me because so much of the playlength is up to the player. If you start to feel like things are starting to drag a bit, you can usually go to the ending bits in a rather quick fashion and finish it up. You used the word tedious to describe certain parts of games. I have to say that's 100% bang on as one of the reasons these long games get to me. They all inevitably have a part (or multiple parts) that are tedious, yet are pretty necessary to do, in order to play through. Different genre/gametype, but that's one of the things I liked about Resident Evil 5. It let you replay the game by chapters, if you so chose. So you could skip parts of the game you didn't find all that interesting, and go directly to the parts you liked. I'd probably still be playing Dragon Age Origins over and over again if it had something similar as RE5 where you could replay chapters, instead of the entire game.

Oh, I agree. I don't want the game to be too short, either. For the most part, however, I can't think of an RPG or action/RPG that can be accused of being too short. I'm pushing myself through ME1 again (I've got nothing else to play, and there are some XBox achievements I want to unlock for it), and I'm finding it too long to replay. Granted, that's partially my own fault being a completionist. The main story itself is actually about what I'd want in a game. But doing the various sidequests, I'm finding it's taking FOREVER to get through. Compared to a recent playthrough of DSIII, which didn't seem like it took all that long, ME1 just seems like such a chore on multiple play throughs. In regards to ME1, a part of me thinks it's also due to the boring combat. I've made my beef known about ME3's ending and how much I hated it, but one thing I could say about ME3 is the combat is much, much more fun than ME1's combat. So crappy combat doesn't exactly help things when I'm already feeling bogged down by a long game.

Every time I replay a game, I'm noticing that the older I get, the less patience I have for long games. It's weird because I love it when the game is really long the first time I play through. But when it comes time to replay it a second or third time, I find it tedious going through long games. In one way, I think this is why I was able to play through Dungeon Siege III four times. It's not a very long game, so I can breeze through the game in no time. In comparison, I have difficulty finishing Dragon Age Origins on subsequent play throughs because of how long it is (in comparison to most RPGs nowadays), even though I actually enjoyed DA:O more than DSIII the first time through for each.

I just noticed that Risen 2 for the PC is set to be released today, but the XBox 360 and PS3 versions are still listed as TBD. So much for me buying it this week, then.

The "wait and see" attitude is where I'm at, too. I don't have any urge to play through again until I see what this extended DLC thing adds. I certainly have no interest in playing again in its current state. The MP got boring after I played all the maps a handful of times. Same game type, same wave of enemies, etc. just got boring.
-
Heh, that's the main reason Risen 2 intrigues me, too.

I'm attempting to replay ME1. It's becoming difficult to carry on. 1-The combat really does suck, especially compared to ME3. And it's not like it's an "old school RPG" combat, either. So it kind of fails at every aspect of combat you find in games over various genres. 2-ME3's ending keeps creeping into my thoughts. I know how things are going to end, and I get this sense of "what's the point, really? Save the Queen, kill the Queen, save the council, kill the council, who cares?". 3-My memory is too good for my own sake. This is why games that offer different ways to play through are more interesting to me than games with one way to play things. I simply remember too vividly what comes next. Combined with #2, playing through is feeling like a chore because I'm remembering everything that's coming next, and also remembering what the endgame is. I might finish this play through simply to unlock a few of the achievements I never got around to (Turian, Krogan, and Asari squadmate, etc.). But it's going to be tough sledding.

I hated the last mission for Catwoman. I must just suck, but I simply couldn't finish it on a higher difficulty that the easiest level. She took like two shots before dying, which made it impossible for me to finish since she's surrounded by gun-toting bad guys on that mission.

It's funny because it's true.

Just started the DLC for Dungeon Siege III. Got owned by what should have been an easy enemy, but dominated what should have been a tough one.

That was one of the biggest issues I had with the Force Unleashed. The camera angles were horrible, and I found it near impossible to actually target the enemy I wanted to target with my Force abilities.
