  1. There is almost nothing that could not be improved in some way, but here are some of the things that I think are good enough: I like the lore and setting The general writing quality, even if a bit dry sometimes ... ... Pretty much everything else could do with a little bit of improvement, to A LOT of improvement. Diamond, that's all I wanted to see. Easier to understand were someone's coming from when they lay it all out. On the whole its far easier/more efficient to tell someone where to go than where not to - which is why your attribute paper was so well received imo.
  2. Which mechanics do you actually like and feel are well implemented then? As that was the idea of this, not to just praise Sawyer himself @Sensuki. Because I have no idea from reading your forum posts, and if I was making the game I'd find it very difficult to understand what you - as one of the most active participants - actually like currently.
  3. Why do people see romance as a loss worth mourning? I think the concentration on the other elements is far more important to a game like PoE (or its sequel) and that romance is at best irrelevant, maybe even actively damaging to the atmosphere of the game.
  4. 1) That's a strawman argument, I didn't once imply the need for 'a community full of yes men', I said that positivity was as worthy of mention as negativity - especially with all the changes going on so that they don't take the good out, and so that they enhance what is good about particular classes 2) There have not been many 180s on main mechanics. The largest change will be of that in attributes, which will get tweaked thanks to Sensuki and Matt's paper - which didn't have any mention of the words 'bull****', 'awful' or 'stupid' from what I remember. An example of good critique and an entirely worthwhile assessment. 3) I said myself that most comments would be negative, its the emotional/aggressive tone of some commenters that ruin worthwhile ideas with hyperbole + unnecessary confrontation. It's like wading through a normal forum, and I think that we can all agree that we're no normal forum. #Elitism #PillarsOfElitism
  5. Did you really see much positivity in the 'review' video? I don't see much, it was centred around bugs and game mechanics that needed changing, rather than those that he didn't want removed/he couldn't see improving - I'm sure there was some positivity somewhere, but not much. That's not anything against Sensuki particularly, but more of an issue with general vocalisations so far. I still have very little idea of which mechanics forum participants particularly like, because criticism is much more likely to fuel a comment than praise - but I'm sure if they get changed we will hear about them, like the pirate gun for instance, which I think was actually Sensuki. (Not picking on him, promise) Paragraph 2 was an addition to the conversation, not a response to you, and was relevant to the positivity being spoken in support of Josh Sawyer + the game he leads. This thread + video by Sensuki has been pretty productive in showing support for the development team, which is often swamped by people's polls on how major mechanics need complete 180s.
  6. Nah, negativity without positivity is only a critique if there is literally nothing positive in what you're critiquing - which is not the case here. The acknowledgment of the good ideas is AS important to maintain the direction of a game as the highlighting of the bad ideas - you don't have to be a 'stuck up person' to agree with that. Sensuki did the right thing by showing both sides to his opinion on the lead designer (Josh) and on the state of the game, because being behind the curtain at Obsidian and making something comparatively pretty niche deserves credit from those fans of the Infinity Engine games. Other developers have cash grabbed and moved onto more popular forms of game, and some of those on Kickstarter have managed their games notably poorly, and yes, Obsidian are a company and Josh is doing what he's employed to do, but they are doing it how I wish more would. Bravo.
  7. They have a vested interest in this game being better, and in the forums giving feedback and new ideas, they're obviously using the time for a reason. Maybe because everyone expects a significant jump in quality per patch, and they want to deliver that.
  8. The Sequel: Paladins of Eternity!
  9. Very minor: I'd change the appearance of the Amaua and how the characters look without armo(u)r xD I know that sounds weird, but the fact they're just like oddly coloured + shaped without actual non-combat clothes perturbs me < I know that's silly and facile, before you decide to tell me so. But: I'm liking the way its going tbh, and I've got my trust well and truly in Josh and the crew = I'm in the less vocal positive camp, e.g. those who don't comment 20 times a day. Each to their own on how to deliver your feedback, but if many of you could look at your character screens irl, then you'd see that you don't have very many 'diplomatic' points
  10. Put this in a random old thread by accident, so apologies if you've seen my wishes prior: 'I wouldn't mind having some facial improvements on the part of the Aumaua and Dwarves, even if they aren't overly detailed in-game, in the character creation screen/inventory they can look mightily off-putting. On the actual backer update, however, fantastic job imo.'

  12. The Bestiary part is entirely on you, the fact that if you wish to cheat you can doesn't negate to any extent the usefulness of it. You can find walkthroughs for RPGs that give you information on shortcuts you'd otherwise have to pass speech checks for, it doesn't negate the mechanic for everyone else (those not interested in cheating).
  13. 'You shouldn't care how I play at home' isn't a viable request to change the fundamental mechanics of this particular game, it is, however, a viable request to allow for modding. And the game has modding, right? So what's the issue here, the fact that it doesn't fit your taste? That's not enough.
  14. Surely rare equipment drops and item finds off of things/from areas you would not find without exploring or killing, mitigates the no kill xp issue for the explorers amongst us? And exploring quests that specifically ask you to venture into parts unknown is again another way to mitigate kill xp and reward travellers/drifters, just as implementing quests that can be solved via unique conversation choices allow for the silver-tongued characters to succeed? The most one dimensional way to give xp is via killing mobs imo, and the most flexible way is to give xp via story/quest progression with multiple solutions.
  15. DNA Cowboy, you lower our great nation of England with your incessant calls to overhaul the fundamentals BEFORE finding out whether Obsidian can indeed make them work, allow these ideas time to grow before pulling them out root and stem. Progress needs your forbearance, sir.
