  1. Yeah the devs are doing a great job. Hope all the complaining isn't getting them down. I love the game!
  2. So you acknowledge that Obsidian is the authority ruling the regime (the development of the game)? If you like, buddy. Self-censorship isn't really censorship in the sense people are using it, though. It's not an outside force imposing this on Obsidian. They could easily ignore the complaints and it would go away, the same way they're not paying much heed to your complaints, and you will eventually move on to the next outrage. Honestly, the only difference between the so-called "SJWs" and the people who oppose them is what they find outrageous. It's the same tactics and often the same sense of entitlement. Of course, the SJW group is responding to discrimination, whether real or perceived, while the anti-SJW group is claiming that listening to the SJWs will lead to the Fourth Reich, so one group strikes me as the more reasonable of the two.
  3. We should all work together and write a song to commemorate this fight. Our own Battle Hymn of the Republic, but instead of slavery it's about the sanctity of bad Backer poems. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of J. Sawyer He's trampling out the vintage where the grapes of fun are stored It's a rough start but come on we'll crowdsource this and get a pretty good tune. Something we can proudly sing as we march down the streets rage impotently from behind our computer monitors.
  4. This is the greatest fight of our lifetimes. Fifty years from now, your grandkids will ask you about this day, and you'll tell them how you braved the flames of the internet in a stand against censorship. And they'll look up at you, their eyes brimming with tears, and they'll say "Grandpa, you tell the worst stories."
  5. A moderator already posted in the thread, friend. And half of the people complaining have post counts below five so their posts would have needed mod approval to even appear.
  6. Uhhh excuse me but this is about ethics. Or censorship. Or maybe Fascism?? Really everything hinges on this bad poem. The future of all free speech is at stake.
  7. What you said is in direct contrast to reality. "So one thing that, um, I really appreciate about Kickstarter is that its sorta given the game development community, um, more options in terms of what content it can produce. What sort of game ideas you can bring to the table, and the fact that it doesn't really have the publisher model involved but we're actually being financed directly by they players, who, we answer to anyway and I'd rather have them as the bosses. Um, that's sorta been a very new way of doing games that's been very, very exciting." - Chris Avellone, Pillars of Eternity Kickstarter video Well, here's the problem with the idea that the backers are bosses: we both bought the game (I'm assuming you did even though you lack a visible backer badge, else why are you here?) so we're BOTH his bosses, right? I think Obsidian made the right choice, you think they made the wrong choice. So we cancel out. Now, unless you think Obsidian should make all future decisions by Backer Committee (and what a cluster THAT would be!) we'll probably just have to agree that Obsidian is a private company that will do what it thinks is best for itself and its consumer, regardless of our individual opinions. WE AREN'T SPECIAL WE JUST BOUGHT A VIDEO GAME. Honestly no one should listen to us because we clearly waste our money on frivolous nonsense.
  8. "Censorship" in the sense many of you are referring to generally requires some sort of authority, typically governmental, removing content deemed inappropriate by the ruling regime. A video game company altering some dialogue in their video game doesn't really rise to the level of censorship under Communism or Fascism you weirdos. Stop making the comparison; it makes you look insane. Again, Obsidian seems to agree that the content is offensive, and removed it, while working with the backer in question. You have no grounds to complain and you aren't going to win people to your cause through ridiculous hyperbole. Of course, what is GamerGate but screaming into the wind about a cause you've already landed on the losing side of?
  9. Oh god, why did I read this horrible thread? It's nothing but gamergaters and people trying to defend a dumb limerick as artistic integrity. Are you actually serious? This doesn't at all represent me. My goal in backing this project was not "I want a studio I love to make something that offends SJWs". And that quote. Jesus Christ man, that quote. You know if the limerick referred to laser guns and sci fi stuff you'd have no problem with it being changed, but the moment someone gets offended, it's the death of liberty to actually listen to them. This entire situation is still messed up though - who is the change for? It's not for the GGers because apparently the most important thing to them is that this game contains content that offends minorities. It's not for the people who were actually offended because it's obviously a dig against them. Third time's the charm, right? I also bought Pillars of Eternity and support what Obsidian did. You aren't special because you bought a video game.
  10. This is really disappointing. I chose GOG over Steam as a gut reaction - while I love Steam, any DRM is obstructive, so why not go DRM-free. Had I known that this version of the game wouldn't receive the same support priority as Steam, I simply would have chosen Steam. I think I know why this wouldn't be well-communicated beforehand, but you've left me remorsefully wishing I had redeemed a different version of the game. I know in the grand scheme of things, it's not a major impact. Only 10 hours in, and I already love this game. But this still leaves me feeling disadvantaged. It's a bummer. Any news on improving patch roll-outs in the future to all platforms simultaneously? Barring that; if Steam will always be treated preferentially, is it not unreasonable to request to transfer my purchase over to that platform? I know that's a troublesome request that's easier to dismiss than fulfill, but what's a fair option, here? They literally cannot release patches to GOG simultaneously because of how GOG works. They would have to hold back the ready patch from Steam users while GOG does whatever testing they do on their end, which would be silly and difficult to time accurately. Really this is a complaint you should take up with GOG; Obsidian doesn't have control over their testing/patching framework.
  11. If we happened to miss content, then yes, we will change it if we feel it is necessary. Like Feargus mentioned in the update, we worked with many backers to revise their content for myriad reasons. This is an obvious lie though. You changed it because you were pressured by a minority group on Twitter lol. You've alienated the people who saved your company from oblivion by backing this game on Kickstarter to appease the rampant SJW movement demanding anything they find offensive to be censored. The fact that you're lying about it now is even more disgusting and disrespectful. Be honest about it. I'm not alienated. I <3 you Brandon. You made a great game and you're a very responsive, considerate developer. Keep up the good work!
  12. I'm a joke that's been run into the ground and these posts are triggering me.
  13. Don't know abotu you, but I fear when Obsidian starts to tailor their games to people that are openly misandrist and don't have enough reading comprehension to understand what the joke was all about. >openly misandrist ahahahahahahahaha Nobody complained about anything else in the game, or at least nothing that turned into a thing, because Obsidian was able to handle all the references to rape, murder, genocide, domestic abuse, prostitution, etc. in a way that worked well and never trivialized any of it or used it cheaply. No one is suggesting that such topics should be off limits to Obsidian. Transphobia on the joke backer memorial thing is gross and offputting and should have been filtered out before it shipped. Except it wasn't transphobia. It isn't Obsidian's fault that you misinterpreted it. The joke could have been about a straight guy sleeping with a bi guy after having too many drinks. It could have been about a tranvestite (which is something ENTIRELY different from being a transwoman). There is nothing pinning it on transfolk. To add insult to injury, the entire joke was about the guy who killed himself being so insecure over his sexuality that a bad night mistake caused him to end his life. He is the one being made fun of. Meanwhile, the hate advocates who call for all men to be exterminated don't even sound like they are joking at all, especially considering their actions. But even if it WAS a joke, somehow that joke was ok, but this one wasn't? A lot of hypocrisy here. Pee pee poo poo it was a bad joke. May it Rest In Peace (except it won't because it was taken off the tombstone). Also death to all men. Let the culling begin!
  14. I don't actually know what you're talking about but I thought the content in question was in poor taste and I neither support genocide nor do I know who Ian Miles Cheung is. And while some folks have bad opinions, you'll find that even a broken clock is right twice a day.
  15. Don't know abotu you, but I fear when Obsidian starts to tailor their games to people that are openly misandrist and don't have enough reading comprehension to understand what the joke was all about. lol not misandry! Won't someone think of the men?? The joke was stupid and bad and it is gone now and the world is better for it. Let us praise Obsidian for their mercy!
  16. If I may, I think I like the new one better. It's actually funny. Aye indeed it is. But the supposed precedent this sets isn't. Which is also I would like further clarification on this as reassurance that this won't happen again, if only to show that this wasn't to appease one clearly crazy person on twitter i.e. I would like to know which tone backer content has to live up to. Precedent? This isn't the Supreme Court. The content changed because someone said it was offensive, Obsidian agreed, and they asked the backer to submit something more appropriate. I hope that's ALWAYS what they do, and if there's something else that they feel needs to be changed they don't waste time in doing so. Aye and what happens when someone else finds something else to be offensive? When does it stop now that they know it can be done? That's the precedent. I hope it never becomes like that because there would be no end to it and we would have to kiss artistic integrity goodbye. There's a difference between editing content because it didn't live up to your standards and giving into a form of censorship because a disgruntled individual put pressure on you. I do hope it's the former and not the latter, but so far I'm not convinced. I suppose that depends on if Obsidian agrees that it is indeed offensive. If they do, like they did here, then they'll act accordingly. The weird doomsday scenarios I'm hearing involve Obsidian not having any opinions of their own and just kowtowing to whatever random people ask of them on Twitter, which I've not known Obsidian to do. Obsidian is good and they did good here. (And censorship doesn't mean what you think it does.)
  17. First they came for the poorly written jokes, and I did not speak out because seriously it's not a big deal get over it you babies. What if they forced this poor holy being, this Backer amongst Backers (Peace Be Upon Him), to change his bad writing to slightly better writing? Can we trust Obsidian anymore??

  19. I have a question. On the Kickstarter page it says that there were roughly 600 people who had that backer tier or higher. Now, I don't know what the outcome of any post-Kickstarter attempts at adding to the funds were, but how does something like this come about? I would have thought there was plenty of time to vet everything, so does this mean that there's MORE content that you didn't get a chance to vet? If so will we be seeing other changes in content or is this the only one? As a backer, I have to admit I'm pretty concerned about this now. As a backer, if there is some reason your content needs to be changed, they will contact you. So stop worrying? They replaced a bad joke that upset some people with a good joke that rhymes better. This is not the hill to die on and everyone should just move on.
  20. Issue: I started a new game as a paladin, spoke to Medreth, and the selection cursor, instead of changing to the hand icon for making selections, was stuck as the box-size-adjust cursor (the double-arrow you use for resizing windows). I was able to do everything as normal with the cursor, so it seems to be a purely graphical error. I haven't been able to get the issue to repeat; tried for several minutes.
  21. Yes thank goodness you're on the job. Could you imagine the damage to Obsidian's rep if this had gone unadressed?? This won't change and I actually prefer some randomization to purely static drops. The super-duper unique items will still show up where they show up and the junk loot (and all of this loot is junk for a party that's proper level when they get to Dyrford; the beta party is undergeared by design) will roll off of a table. If you have brain problems and sit there rerolling at each chest until you get the "optimal" drop then I must extend my thanks to Obsidian for keeping you indoors and away from the public where you might be a threat.
  22. Isn't 30% fairly standard for digital distribution storefronts? I think that's the same cut Apple's app store takes. Does GOG take less? Edit: The Humble Store only takes a 25% cut, which seems to be the best deal for publishers/developers out there. Short of buying directly from the developer, that is.
  23. MMO? What are you smoking... Requesting a Huge Shoulderpads option to go with Big Head mode, tia.
