  1. It's ironic isn't it? The same people who think it's OK to force people to give up private property without fair compensation, buy health insurance plans they don't need or can't afford, or beg permission from the State to enjoy a Constitutionally guaranteed right, think it's too much of a burden to ask people to show an ID card to make sure the voter is who they say they are.
  2. There is no reason and ID should be hard to get. Especially if you have had one at one point. In fact there is no reason it should require travel farther than the nearest post office, UPS store, or even any public office or even notary. It should be no harder than putting a stamp on an envelope or signing into a web site.
  3. No, mandatory DNA samples at birth. And I'm not joking about this. On that day we stop being citizens and become livestock.
  4. That sounds like a steaming pile of made up hyperbole to me. I am no fan of republicans, they are only slightly less vile than democrats in my book, but I seriously doubt any of them are stupid enough to say something like this even if it were true.
  5. Well didn't see that cominh, but how is that condescending ? It isn't thinking them helpless but just they have hurdles in the way. And not to mention there are people that rather like those hurdles being there. As I said, isn't really a case where you can shrug and tell them to deal with it so much as others, so have to implement the system accordingly. There are hurdles in the way of everything everyone does. You want to write a check? First you need a checking account. Want to go to the store and get a bottle of milk? Well, first you need to get there. So you drive, walk, use public transportation, etc. All little obstacles to getting that bottle of milk from the store. It's called living. Since almost all of the activities I just held out as an example require and ID that people seem to have no trouble getting I really don't see how it is a burden for them to show that same ID to make sure the ballot they get is really theirs.
  6. It is condescending in the extreme to think these poor people are so helpless and stupid they can't even get their paperwork straight or go get an ID. Especially since every other thing the average citizen does requires them to have an ID.
  7. I certainly believe fraudulent voting is a problem. And I KNOW elections have been stolen that way. I remember an election was overturned in court for the Mayor of Miami some years back because the absentee ballots of dead voters. But it would be nearly impossible to turn a national election, the Presidency for example, that way. You would likely need 500k to 1M votes to do it. No easy feat by itself without the irregularity being blatant. And the votes would have to be targeted in the one or two states whose electoral votes might turn the outcome. But there is no way to know what states those will be. In 2000 Florida turned the election. In 2004 it was Ohio. In 2016 it was Michigan and Wisconsin. There is just no way to know. Even a statewide race would be hard because a 1% finish means a recount and than means scrutiny that ferrets out this kind of malfeasance. It's a problem yes that should be fixed. If I have to have a photo ID to use my credit card or put money in my own bank account or cash a welfare check I don't think having one to vote is such a God awful burden. But it is not changing the outcome of elections with the regularity that has been suggested.
  8. Actually, there isn't. And there probably should be. If your registration is valid and you go to your assigned poll there will be a ballot there with your name on it. You sign for it and fill it out. That's pretty much it. No one has ever asked me to prove I'm who I say I am.
  9. It's a good thing Donald Trump is not a member of this board. It would suck if we couldn't speak ill of him here!
  10. The best is whatever Sean Connery has. The worst is probably me because speech to text screws up every time. Plus even Siri can't make heads or tails of what I'm asking.
  11. I didn't re-new my NHL Center Ice package this year. But I have been following the Panther's on SiriusXM. Losing Luongo was devastating, particularly for a team that s giving up way too many SOG
  12. Damn those meddling ghosts! https://deadspin.com/jeremy-kerley-says-a-ghost-may-have-tainted-his-pee-1821276324
  13. I saw this o a bumper sticker yesterday. And now all I can see are the two dinosaurs!
  14. I've been a Marlins fan since 1993. I've seen the worst fire sales and deconstructions any sports fan can imagine. This time it's a little different because it's new ownership cleaning up a mess. I get why it has to be done. But they really got nothing for Stanton. It really was just a salary dump. Starlin Castro will never play an inning as a Marlin so hopefully there will be a better return when he is traded. The real pain is coming though. Justin Bour, Christian Yelich, and Marcell Ozuna will likely be traded off too. That will hurt much more. Somewhere down the road though it will be OK.
  15. Stellaris. Hands down. I spend more hours playing that than anything else. Except maybe chess.
  16. Shady wins!
  17. Irony: definitely my favorite form of humor.
  18. Good luck! And by the way you can do good for yourself as well as do some good for that poor bastard at the same time. Don't think of the two as being mutually exclusive.
  19. I started to write what was growing into a lengthy response to some the the ideas being discussed. But about 200 words in it seemed like such a hassle. Some days tilting at windmills takes too much effort.
  20. What am I a dance critic? She's hot! That's enough for me.
  21. Today I'm working from the waiting room of the Vet's office. Sunny is getting her teeth cleaned. Merry Christmas Sunny, this is your present!
