  1. Going to Nashville for two days tomorrow for work. They guy I'm travelling with asked f there are any good BBQ places there. I told him "you live 40 minutes from Memphis... you don't go to Nashville for your BBQ!" But I am planning on going to Bob's Steak & Chop House. It's a block from Music Row & it is most excellent! I wish I could bring Sunny. She's staying with a friend. It's not that I don't trust her with Sunny but... no one loves your pup like you do!
  2. I just saw Mary Oliver passed away last week. Sad news indeed. If you love dogs and have never heard of her, well , where have you been hiding?? "Because of the dog’s joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?" "Dogs die so soon. I have my stories of that grief, no doubt many of you do also. It is almost a failure of will, a failure of love, to let them grow old — or so it feels. We would do anything to keep them with us, and to keep them young. The one gift we cannot give." "A dog comes to you and lives with you in your own house, but you do not therefore own her, as you do not own the rain, or the trees, or the laws which pertain to them... A dog can never tell you what she knows from the smells of the world, but you know, watching her, that you know almost nothing." Mary Oliver 1935-2019 RIP
  3. Hmm... I believe Rand Paul is a Republican. I thin you are confusing him for his father. But... y'know... they all look the same right?
  4. I would miss my XM Radio but otherwise I'd be just fine. Bring it on!
  5. Well isn't this embarrassing? https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/cnn-legal-analyst-areva-martin-accuses-david-webb-of-white-privilege-before-learning-hes-black
  6. Sakai passed away 12 years before this was written so you are right it's all from interviews with him and associates. His recollections on the difference between the A5M & the Zero (that part I'm reading now) are really interesting.
  7. Now reading: It's a pretty interesting and seemingly well researched story. I know almost nothing about Sakai but the perspective is interesting. Just downloaded this: 67 reviews and 4.8 stars. Must have something going for it. If you have Kindle Unlimited both titles are free on your Kindle.
  8. Well how about this? Tim Tebow wins a Heisman Trophy, two National Championships, playes in the NFL, will likely play in the MLB this season, has dated two Miss Universe winners and is now getting married to one of them. Not bad at all. https://www.mlb.com/cut4/tim-tebow-got-engaged-to-demi-leigh-nel-peters/c-302574002
  9. Gorgon I can almost guarantee every US Marine that ever served has some level of sewing skill. Though likely not with machines. They are also very familiar with the proper deployment and use of steam irons and magic sizing. And while some of them were certainly gay very, very few were ever sissies. Self sufficiency in any skill is to be commended not derided.
  10. That's it... close the thread. Zorp wins! Ain't nobody topping THAT one!
  11. To you, what makes her different from the other Democrats who may/are run? Just wondering. I know she is supposedly one of the more moderate Democrats who might run, but theres other Democrats who could run (in this massive potential field of like, 30) who are also moderates. She opposes military intervention in places like Syria, West Africa, and well, anywhere else for that matter. People who have served in combat are less cavalier about asking others to do it for bad reasons... or no reason at all.
  12. On a different note I thought this was funny as hell... or not:
  13. They do not. With just one exception (Rand Paul) I wouldn't vote for one of them either.
  14. Of all the Democrats who might run Gabbard is the only one I find tolerable. I will not vote for her, She is still a representative of a party with far too many members that think the rights and property of the individual are only theirs at the pleasure of the state. But she is by far the least objectionable of all of them. In other news how cool is this? https://abcnews4.com/news/local/congressman-joe-cunningham-caught-bringing-beer-onto-house-floor
  15. Woke up to snow on the ground. Just a dusting really. Look like a good day to work from home. I don't do snow! As for border walls/fences my place shares a border with Cold Creek on one side and the Anderson Tully Wildlife Management Area on the other. Back when I first bought this place I cleared a 10' fire break and built a perimeter fence along at border. It's a 5' three rail field wire fence. The idea is of course to keep my critters in but also let hunters from Tully know they have left the MA and are on private property. On several occasions I've had to stop armed hunters crossing my doggone garden. In every case they climbed my damned fence. I've asked them did it ever occur to them the State of Tennessee would not build a fence in the middle of a 40k acre WMA? Unfortunately hunting is not solely the hobby of those with common sense.
  16. Isn't that been norm in US politics in past two years. I mean alternative facts don't appear in impromptu interviews but they have been used as reason for many policies like current shut down, but for some reason lots of people only care that politician don't really know their facts when some newbie youngling politician who can't really effect any policies by herself, don't know some details how things work in US political system. I'd say the difference would be the gleeful acknowledgement that they know their positions is factually wrong but they stick by it anyway. Recent examples like Trump I think they probably believe everything they are selling. Ignorance is one thing. Pitiable, regrettable (especially for us) but different from knowing wrong and choosing it anyway. But then again even THAT is hardly unheard of in US politics. All I'm going to say is there were other names on all of the ballots than just Republicans and Democrats. The day we stop accepting the better of two bad choices and going with 3rd or 4th options is the day the two main choices will start improving. If we don't buy what they are selling maybe they will try selling us something better. Just a thought. We get the government we deserve. And we get it good and hard.
  17. There is something very British about a polite, even friendly, written response that still manages to say "f--k you" without actually saying it. Must be something they put in their tea!
  18. Did she really say she'd rather be morally right than factually correct? I have to tell you.... in my line of work that attitude will get people killed.
  19. Sorry, next time I'll come up with something better!
  20. You know the biggest problem with political discussions? Words lose their meaning over time. Radical, Nazi. Communist, Liberal, Conservative, Libertarian, Socialism, etc. All these words have real definitions with almost 200 tears of post industrial revolution history to firmly establish those definition. And yet they get tossed around like a Frisbee in a dog park so often they end up losing their meaning when applied to things they clearly don't fit. Just my $.02 ,
  21. Awesome meter is pegged at 10
  22. I just poured the last glass of Jefferson's Reserve bourbon. It kind of feels like the kind of night one glass won't be enough. I guess it will have to be. The liquor cabinet (the top of my refrigerator) is bare.
  23. It occurs to me that is we give one to President Trump we get the same outcome!
