Bah, just meaningless political theater. I watched Building Alaska instead. -
Has congress passed a budget for the building of said fence? Don't I wish! Actually I probably have a better shot then Trump does!

Free rugby matches every day? I'd like that!

I am now the proud owner of 17 acres of rural unimproved farmland on Richland Creek between Covington and Brownsville. This weekend I'm going to start building a fence around it. I have a tentative agreement with one of the local horse farms to lease it for sorghum & millet planting. I'll have to build the fence and do some improvements to the access road but I pretty sure I can make that happen.

Here is a thought that should strike terror i the hearts of all: The Boston Celtics are 34-19 and in 3rd Place in the East. The Boston Bruins are 28-17-7 and are in 4th place in the Atlantic. If each of their seasons ended today they would be in the playoffs and the Celtics would start at home. That means it is far from impossible that the Boston area could hit the pro sports Superfecta. All four major sports titles in one year. To my recollection it has never happened. You think New Englanders are an insufferable lot now?

Gromnir just hit on a big issue with this wall foolishness. Much of the land it would occupy belongs to private citizens. To build the wall the government will need that land. They will try to buy it, likely at pennies on the dollar of actual value. But if the land owners don't want to sell, or sell at the offered price they will just take it from them. It's called eminent domain. It is a license to steal. Of course the land owners can take it to court. Sometimes you just have to couch the lance and tilt at the windmills. But Justices Stevens, Ginsburg, Souter, Breyer & Kennedy left the takings clause a lot stronger than they found it. When the government can take your land and sell it to someone else it's even harder to stop them from taking it and using it for themselves. I would point out that the so called party of limited government using such a strong arm tactic should have created a little bit of an identity crisis. But they are not that. And they have not been in so long such an act has long lost any sense of irony it might have had. -

That's the Roman Empire for you. They like wine so everyone drank wine. It's a shame. Egypt & Parthia were much closer and beer was popular there. -

I don't think God is concerned with the progress of human civilization so much as the progress of individual humans. Who wins elections, who the Pope is, etc, is I think beneath His notice. I think He cares less about our collective actions than about our individual ones. Jesus did not associate with leaders. He taught and set examples for everyday people. Just my $.02. I could be wrong. We'll all find out one day one way or another. -

I finally watched a few episodes of STD after reading comments here and elsewhere. Much like the new Star Trek movies I neither loved it nor hated is. It isn't the steaming pile of SJW spoor I heard it was. Although there is more than a hint of that every now and then. It's certainly nice to look at as far as effects go but... meh Start Trek ended when Voyager got home. And it was definitely on life support before that. Season 7 of DS9 was a bet of a let down and the last episode definitely was. But let's face it, only one series ever "stuck the landing" with the last episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP21b-AAXJk I thought TNG, Miami Vice, Breaking Bad, & M.A.S.H. all had good endings. But Cheers.... that was perfect!

Hey Sammael, welcome back!

My actual job title is "Environmental Scientist" which I find amusing because it does not describe in the least what I actually do. Plus I think scientists are highly educated people who make more money than I do and do more important things.

I hope orange man goes through with it and deploys to Venezuela. Another quagmire is just what the US economy needs, and I'm sure their popular support in Latin America would increase at least tenfold. Euro allies would also look fantastic supporting the move, not to mention Justin "if you kill your enemies, they win" Trudeau. Shame about the millions of dead and displaced, but hey, that's the price of progress. Prepare to be "saved"! -
I spend my days trying to angle my monitor at work just right so no one outside my office can see I'm playing OOTP rather than working. When I'm not actually working that is.

If anyone has $900k burning a hole in their pocket this looks pretty cool! https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/25/photos-inside-doomsday-prepper-castle-in-the-nevada-desert.html Just think, the average utility bill in rural Nevada is $325/mo. This bad boy is completely self sustaining. It will pay for itself in time... a long time... 230 years and 9 months to be exact. Still cool though.

I put a down payment on some investment property today. Writing that check hurt. Handing the envelope to the Fedx lady hurt. But I think it's a sound move and it has an income opportunity almost immediately. Once I put a little work into it. I feel bad buying from a foreclosure sale but one man's loss is another's opportunity. It's vacant land so it's not like someone lost their home or anything. Besides ever since I sold the townhouse that money has been just sitting there earning minimal interest. Sometime the worst thing to do is nothing.

To all my fellow Americans here: https://www.bloombergquint.com/politics/another-year-another-1-trillion-in-new-debt-for-u-s-to-raise You guys just keep on arguing about elephants vs donkeys and walls and medicare, who is going to impeach who and who tweeted what as though all that s--t was actually important. Pay no attention to me over here buying arable real estate, seed packs, ammunition, and gold buffaloes, eagles and maple leafs and silver polar bears. Tick tock tick tock.... -

Don't you love how voting for a candidate you mostly agree with is somehow wasting you vote? And voting for one you find repulsive but happens to be slightly less so than the other major party candidate is somehow not wasting it? Do you know what happens when people stop voting for the lesser evil? The 3rd Party candidates will start winning and the Donkey's and Elephants will start running better candidates. -

James if I were advising a Dem hopeful in '20 I'd tell them not to go within 100 miles of Hillary Clinton. Being seen kissing her ring (or rear) would NOT be helpful.
