  1. Excellent post. There is no green solution currently in use that provides "on demand" power in the quantity required. My home does have solar power but as you already know that means batteries, inverters, and consequently a loss of efficiency which was not high to begin with. One way to resolve that is a house powered entirely by DC electric power. Not easy to do and you can forget large appliances and electronics. However, I have been building a separate DC power system in my house with it's own circuits and breaker/distribution path. The idea being an independent power system rather than a shared one.
  2. Another thing COVID has us running short of: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-seeds-americans-grow-food/ It's a lot of work but 1.5 acres of land, properly managed, can feed a person for a year.
  3. That's it... I give up: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/in-unprecedented-move-treasury-orders-trumps-name-printed-on-stimulus-checks/ar-BB12DsbB?ocid=spartanntp
  4. Sure the idea is great. But like most international organizations it does not actually do what it was organized to do. It has, like so many others become a platform for individuals. A high paying job doing little to nothing. And it also becomes a political tool for countries like China just as it did in this instance. You know Malc I will never understand why organizations like this, like Amnesty International and other bend over backwards to be accommodating to nations that are the antithesis of their very existence all while literally biting the hands that actually feed them.
  5. You think Patton & McArthur were right?
  6. And I begrudge them every penny of it.
  7. In the internet world you really can buy anything from anyone anywhere. If your personal ethics dictate that you will not do business with China, even indirectly, then you accept the inconvenience of that decision and reward more deserving sellers with your business. Never forget, your business IS a reward. No one is entitled to it. No one can tell you who deserves it or who can have it but you. There is no product on this earth that is manufactured solely in China. There is nothing that cannot be bought from elsewhere.
  8. One thought on China. You all realize I'm sure there IS something YOU can do about them right? And it's very easy. Do not buy products made in China. If you can help it do not buy products whose components came from China. You can't control what China does. You can't control what your governments do. You sure as hell cannot tell other people what to do. But you CAN control what YOU do. Not everything in the world is made there. Read the label, do you homework, buy products from somewhere else. Anywhere else. If it means you pay more, then pay more. If it mean buying an off brand, then buy the off brand. No one can tell you how to spend YOUR money (whatever your goddamned government deigned for you to keep of it). Do this, keep doing it, persuade others to do so and you can hurt China. I've been doing it for years.
  9. With regards to green energy all I'm going to say is from December to March I did not owe the power co-op a nickel. My bill in April was $31.50. Of course how green will it be when I have to recycle those batteries in three more years? Replacement costs are also a factor. They cost a little over $1k for both strings. But they last 10 years (supposedly)
  10. Kudos to Trump for stopping the US funding of the WHO. It irritates me to no end knowing my hard earned money is going to any organization like that. If anyone feels bad about that please feel free to write them a check yourself rather than taking the money I earned and giving it to them.
  11. You can still vote any way you like with a clear conscience. There is no chance in hell Biden loses California just like there is no chance in hell he'll win TN.
  12. Does this mean we can set him adrift?
  13. Man finds $8.2M in his checking account by mistake: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8216195/Indiana-man-checked-bank-account-1-700-stimulus-check-deposited-8million.html Kudos to him for honesty. The instant I realized it was there I would have wired it to a Cayman account, then wired it a few more places before using it to by bitcoin or bullion or something. Then I would have vanished into thin air. Take the dogs, burn the house, don't even leave any of my DNA behind to be tracked. Lay low until I can get a fake passport then off to some s--t hole country that will let me buy a passport & ID no questions asked. After that... disappear for good. Never come back to the US because they WILL catch you!
  14. Former NFL QB Tavaris Jackson died in a car accident. He was only 36. That is a damn shame. https://www.insidehook.com/daily_brief/sports/former-nfl-qb-tarvaris-jackson-dead-at-36-after-car-accident
  15. The Heir to the (evil) Empire, Hank Steinbrenner passed away. He was only 63 but I had read he has been having health problems for a long time now. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2886537-yankees-co-owner-hank-steinbrenner-dies-at-63-from-longstanding-health-issue?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_campaign=editorial&utm_medium=referral
  16. In all honestly there is very little to enjoy about this situation. Although finding out the government is as incompetent and dysfunctional as I already knew it was comes as no surprise. Under Trump the Federal government has, in the same day, tried to take powers it does not have and abdicate some it did, on multiple occasions. You are talking about a choice between a "disjointed dis-empowered federal government" and a "more empowered federal government that can actively respond in times of crisis" as though you could have one or the other. You cannot. It will always be the former no matter how much power you give it. The US is too large and too complex to govern with an entity that, by necessity, can only apply one size fits all, and "needs of the many" solutions. No matter how powerful that government is it will be a dumpster fire. If anything IMO this whole shtstorm has demonstrated the wisdom of decentralized power and the importance of everyone "staying in their lane". Especially since it hasn't happened for the most part.

  22. You know... I've always known in my lifetime a President would say this: However I always figured it would be a Democrat. After all they hate the 10th Amendment almost as much as they hate the 2nd. If there was a party that was primed to go power mad and announce the 10th Amendment moot I figured it would be them. Imagine my surprise: https://apnews.com/ba9578acf23bdb03fd51a2b81f640560 So now neither party even pays lip service to the pretense of limited constitutional government. Of course it was that way before. Now they are just more open about it. Only one thing left to do:
  23. Don't stop voting. Keep voting 3rd party. A quixotic action may not change anything but it's still better than doing nothing. Silence implies consent.
  24. Happy Easter. I hope it finds all of you healthy & happy
  25. Well, I DO have dried corn, plenty of fresh water, firewood, an advanced understanding of chemistry and an assortment of large pots. All I really need is malted barley and yeast and time. Amazon sells the first two and God knows I have plenty of the latter.
