Not just the fringes, the middle too. Meanwhile I'm still looking for the "just leave everyone alone" party. -

An antifa mob has taken over a park in Seattle and declared it a "police free zone". And in order to keep it that was they have armed Antifa knuckleheads frisking people who enter and checking their ID and beating them with rifle butts if they don't comply. So the police have been replaced with..... police https://www.city-journal.org/antifa-seattle-capitol-hill-autonomous-zone https://www.foxnews.com/us/seattle-city-hall-protesters-autonomous-zone https://mynorthwest.com/1934076/seattle-capitol-hill-autonomous-zone/ ANNNNDDDD get a load of THIS little nugget: Antifa Black Shirts. Now THAT would be funny if it wasn't so f-----g STUPID. Apparently they didn't stay in school long enough to learn about this f-----g guy and what political party he sprang from -

You know if it were just you and I deciding the fate of the USA over a bottle of fine bourbon I'd give you this one. The second amendment will no longer apply to pistols, handguns under say 18". With an exception to muzzleloader/black powder because why not. IF.... IF I thought it would end there. If I really thought that would be the ;ast conversation that would ever be had about banning guns I'd concede pistols. But we both know it won't be because it (gun control) is not about crime, or safety, or police lives, and it never was. -
This is why Pickett's Charge was doomed before the first rank stepped out from the treeline.

There is that. Another factor is small rural communities are pretty tight knit. An urban apartment building houses hundreds of people who are strangers to one another. A small town most everyone knows everyone else. And their families for a generation or more. People are more likely to commit crimes against strangers. Other than crimes of passions, etc. -

Heck even that isn't as simple as it seems. Some of the poorest areas in the US are rural and crime is at it's absolute lowest in rural areas. Of course pop density it lowest there but still in violent/property crimes per capita rural is always lower than urban. There are many reasons why and I'm sure I don't know them. But one guess would be firearms. If you live in a rural area you have them because you are mostly on your own. Breaking into houses is an excellent way to die. -

You beat me to it. There have been a LOT more protests than that. However, most of them have not ended in looting, burning, and murdering. Mainly New York, LA, Chicago, St. Louis, DC, & Minneapolis with a few more here and there. What do all those cities have in common? Besides total control by Democrats? High crime. Criminals are going to be criminals, especially if there is a big distraction like a protest going on. -

I favor socialism for none. I'll keep mine, you keep yours. I'll see to my business, you see to yours. Say whatever you like. Fly whatever flag you like. Pray to any God you like. Smoke what you like, sleep with how you like, Buy guns, read books, associate with whomever. Don't mess with me and mine, don't tell me what to do. Stay off my private property and out of my business and we'll be good. -

Yeah... it would be. There is no crueler tyranny than that which is perpetuated under the shield of law and in the name of justice. -

Maybe there is a page to be taken from the military playbook here. Usually I go full porcupine when police and military are compared. When I cops following some military traditions like the 3 creases, hand salutes and such it annoys the hell out of me. Who the f--k do they think they are? But... I digress... On of the biggest reason cops result to casual brutality so easily is, in their work, they lose the ability to empathize. It IS a terrible job. You spend years neck deep in some of the worst situations the human race has to offer. They become jaded and cold and oftentimes lost the ability to see the people they interact with as human beings. It happens because they are always on the "front line" so to speak. When you join the military as an infantryman or other "front line" position you will not be there your whole career. You won't even be there for half of it. You will move up and on into leadership and administrative positions or other jobs in the service altogether. But a policeman can start his 1st day as a patrolman and retire 40 years later as a patrolman. Here is what I propose. A maximum "front line" patrolman tour of 10 years. After that you can move into some other aspect of police work, accept promotion, etc or take a 50% retirement. A walk away package of 50% benefits once you reach retirement age. That is not a terrible deal. Suppose you were a 24 year old rookie. In 10 years if you have not moved up and can walk away at age 34 with retirement benefits and still young enough to begin a second career doing something else. Leaving cops on the frontline of LE means they get meaner, colder, and more dehumanized. They may not even mean to but the psyche will do that as a defense mechanism. When Derek Chauvin had George Floyd pinned down he didn't even regard Floyd as a human being. He likely thought of it as stepping on a roach and genuinely could not understand why people were so upset. They need to be removed form the field BEFORE they get there. That idea coupled with decriminalizing non-violent offenses to "turn down the temperature" on police interactions with the public along with some reforms in training would go a long way to fixing what's wrong. It won't fix racism. I don't know what will do that other than time. -
You are correct sir. The Cubs are the oldest continuous team. I should have worded that question differently. They were also the White Stockings, Colts, Orphans, and a few others IIRC. Nicknames were almost all informal and interchangeable in those days. Someone has been watching Ken Burns Baseball 1st Inning.

Minneapolis is disbanding it's police dept. Well... this ought to be interesting! Hey I am NO fan of the police in general. They are the epitome of "necessary evil" in their best form and intolerable evil in their worst. But to go without or replace them with unarmed "social workers"? Let's put it this way... If I lived in Minneapolis I'm buying guns and LOTS of ammo today. I'd say get a carry permit but f--k that. No one will be around to arrest you for carrying concealed soon! -

If they want to de-fund the police go right ahead. It will be "the Purge" every night of the year. Works for me though. I'm one of those crazy, heavily armed, anti-government prepper types anyway. Go ahead and cut your own throats. I'll be just fine. -

Patrick Underwood, David Dorn, and Chris Beaty were all murdered by BLM "protesters" this week. I guess their lives didn't matter. They should have.
