Update on content patch please OE
Catt replied to actmodern's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I thought there was something wrong with my computer when i first saw the movies! My laptop's screen has a native resolution of 1600x1200 and so the movies really did look........well............ -
The issue with patching this game is that it was released in a 'rough' state. To be honest I am suprised the code as released was ever declared as going gold. The task of patching a game such as KoTOR2 is mammoth. I don't want to call it unfinished but its certainly been heavily cut and lacks polish (to put it mildly). My point being that the first patch was just the tip of the iceberg. To get this game to where it should have been on release you'd need more manhours of work than Obsidian can give. So I doubt we'll see another bug fixer because it'd be like throwing a ml of water on a forest fire.

thanks all! will do some experimenting

At what point on Nar Shadaa does your alignment affect whether you get Mira or Hanhaar? I ask because I want to achieve darkside mastery but also want Mira in my party. Can I arrive on Nar Shadaa as just about LS trigger Mira selection, as it were, and then go off to other planets and wreak death and destruction? or do I need to complete all of Nar Shadaa as LS? Cheers

I just cannot listen to a Wookie speak. I had the same reaction to Zalbaar. It screws with my head and (not kidding) I find it painful to listen to. I know it sounds strange, but even if HanHarr was the most fascinating character ever created in fiction I couldn't get past his voice I just can't listen to it.

The game is buggy - fact The game had content removed at the very last minute - probable Elements were contradictory - fact (I saw the remote being destoryed by G0-T0 in one cut scene, and then two seconds later it was floating around again) Whether you see the game as incomplete/unfinished etc is a matter of personal opinion. I myself would say it was incomplete and unfinished. I am disappointed. BUT there are many games like that out there BUT this alone does not mean it was 'right' for the game to be released in this state, however in this state it was indeed released. Overall, I enjoyed playing the game in this state. I would have much preferred the game to have been fully realised, it wasn't. I shall not be buying another LA or OE game until about 4 months after release. Bottom Line: Hopefully market economics being what they are both OE and LA will learn from their mistakes. Unfortunately if enough people buy the game and are happy with the standard of production (and I fear they have and are) that standard will become the default level at which future games are released. If you disagree with this standard there isn't much you can do. Its unfortunate but thats the way things work.

Whoops! I mean doing Nar Shadaa first! Sorry I always get the two mixed up for some reason! D'uh!

I have to admit when i played male the first time around I don't remember Handmaiden having them - I could be wrong; will fire up one of my saves and check.

I have a very strong dislike to Wookies, esp. Hanharr. Is there anyway I can get Mira whilst LS and then have enough time to go DS Mstry if I do Korriban as my first planet? I've played a middling-light character and a LS Mstry character (nearly finished) and would like to play a DS Consular next but really really really hate Hanharr and quite like Mira. Is it possible to edit her in and Hanharr out using the save game editor?

Well at first I got confused and thought my first name would be Colon :"> Glad I figured it out!

Are non-Jedi classes in KOTOR2 more viable?
Catt replied to KOTORFanactic's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I've got Mira rated with BABs in the mid 40s doing high 40s worth of damage as a level 25 Scout - with rapid shot she can take down Jedi Master's before they can land a blow. -
the character or npc of least importance
Catt replied to SW fan's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Heya! (so hard not to kill him, even in good games) Gotta say GO-TO. Never got Hanharr as I just can't bring myself to give up Mira for a walking carpet so I can't say anything about him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree about G0-T0 and Disciple But I'd also like to add that I felt all of the characters in the sequal were not as well developed as the ones in the original. This is in part, I admit, due to the truncated ending, but there also just seems to be less of characterisation and dialogue this time around. I just felt that with the exception of Kreia they all lacked a certain something. I just didn't connect with them like I did in KOTOR I. Even the ones from the original like HK I felt had lost 50% of their interest for me -partly because they were already familar to me but mainly because whilst my character didn't know them I did. So HK not telling me all about his past just seemed frustrating because I already knew it, it skewed my view of him if that makes sense - it just caused continuity problems for me in that I couldn't pretend to forget that which I already knew. -
I remember! Its that he like the exile is a wound in the force (although I never felt it was adequately explained why Nihilus was as he was, whereas with the exile it was Malachor V that did it). edit: but the exile is still a very different being from nihilus who feeds on all life, the exile simply draws people too him/her because of the wound. Although having said that it was suggested that you were such a great leader because of the fact you are a wound, but you only became a wound after Malachor V.
-
Her and the exiles experiences are fairly different IMHO. True they were both present at the death of a world and of many of their friends and hundreds of thousands (millions?) of others. But I think that is where the comparison ends. The exile was responsible for those deaths, Visas was not. Visas was the sole survivor (perhaps of her species although the story isn't clear on this), the exile was not. Visas became the victim of truley malevolent being, the exile from what we know lived a reasonable life in his memory / force less state - its only when Kreia appears that old wounds are re-opened, and even then its perfectly possible to play the game as someone who is quite well balanced and unaffected by what happened. i think its problematic to compare the two because you can choose to a large extent the personality of the exile and how they have been affected by the events of the past. As I said you can simply play the a character who does not really care about Malachor V at all and isn't mentally unbalanced by it all.

I completely agree. I also found her to be extremely ineffective in combat as well.

not really, if the game was supposed to be the same on both systems and the contract was signed to the effect it's breeching the contract to change only one game. Tech issues aside since I'm sure everyone realises that patching a PC game after release is pretty much standard practice these days. I see it working something like this. MS to LA - no more Xbox games for you LA - Obsidian no more SW games for you <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is no way on God's Green Earth that you could make that stand up in a court of law. What contract did you sign? You have a right for a game to run (if you meet the published and offical basic specs) and not to damage your system but thats about the only legal cover you've got. You buying a game which has elements you don't like is not basis for legal action. Apart from which the versions are not connected legally. Both versions are separte games that, importantly, are designed to run on two seperate and incompatible hardware platforms. KOTOR:TSL on PC is not the same game as KOTOR:TSL on Xbox. Sure they have the same story but it isn't the same code - and also they aren't the same price. Simply they are not the same product.

I disagree you're not patching the content your putting efffectively brand new stuff in. It would be adding new campaigns in. Just because there are bits of files that are unused doesn't make it a patch because these bits of files are not in the game so putting them into the game would be, for all intents and purposes, puttng brand new matierial in. If the Droid Factory/Planet was restored then that would be a new campaign, but I agree so much as simply changing the ending would not be a 'new campaign'.

BUG - % damage blockers don't work
Catt replied to Camp Freddie's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Isn't Force Speed broken? It only gives you either the defensive bonus or the extra attack; can't remember which one - I read it somewhere! and it seems to be true, for me at least. -
is the word "soon" to be seen in the context of
Catt replied to poolofpoo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
yes, probably, although I have no real idea how long it'll be - depends how much they are going to fix I assume you are referring to the patch and the "coming soon" message on the website? -

Wait with starting till patch comes out or...?
Catt replied to Grong's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I agree. It seems slightly random as to whether you'll get a fautless bug free play through or a bug ridden juddery ride. My first time through was relatively bug free, just some minor annoyances really except for one part where I needed to talk to someone to advance the story but couldn't as it would let me start up a conversation so I had to reload. And I think thats the major point - save often and in multiple slots. The game itself suggests this but for entirely different reasons. You should because you cannot guarentee when a bad bug will rear its ugly head, but its also a good idea to save if you want to try out different conversation options etc. I don't think, personally, you'll need to save because of the difficulty of an upcoming section very often. -
Realistic expectation of patch: - fix 45 mniute crash bug - fix the broken force powers - fix the various minor but still irritating bugs (like if I use an NPC to unlock something and then switch back to the PC my PC and the NPC swap locations) Dream Fixes: - add in the cut quests (you know the ones [not mentioning them because of spoilers]) - Improve game play performance and generally overhall it so it runs much better - Improve some of the poor textures in the game Wildest Dream Fixes: - "Fix" the ending - Add in a KOTOR2 equivalent of Yavin IV - Add in extra items Totally Trippy Wildest Dream Fixes: - Make the game as it could have been - including the hints that certain characters were destined originally to play a greater role in events (trying not to spoil)
