  1. People continually state the supposed greatness of flurry, and I just don't get it; it simply isn't true. I'll assume that every sane jedi/sith will be getting two extra attacks every round from the awesomely overpowered "master speed" when he or she fights. Logic dictates that as the amount of attacks per round go up, the extra attack added by flurry becomes less and less meaningful, while the extra 10 damage gifted by master power attack becomes more and more significant (This is assuming that power attack adds 10 damage to each and every attack, a fact that I am reasonably sure of). A dual-wielder can expect to deal an additional 40 damage in a round from using master power attack. In order to equal that damage output using master flurry, that same jedi would have to do an average of 40 damage on each and every smack of his lightsaber. Even the most powerful guardian wielding a lightsaber with the best combination of crystals (best in terms of sheer damage output) won't be able to do that. Similarly, a single-wielding guardian with very high strength (around thirty or so) can only do about the same amount of damage using flurry as when using power attack (except, of course, if the jedi is using the Baragwin assault blade, but that's an entirely different issue). There might not seem to be too great a difference between power attack and flurry from the perspective of a heroically strong guardian, but most jedi characters simply don't focus on their ability to deal damage with a saber nearly as much. However, these characters also almost always (at least, to some extent; force powers just don't work that well against some opponents) still depend on their proficiency with light sabers to do damage to opponents, making power attack the obvious choice of feat.
  2. And what's more, will she be romancable?
  3. I'll take a single, violet lightsaber, please. Dual wielding is just so stylistically bankrupt.
  4. This thread makes me gag.
  5. I hardly think that implementing cheats would take any time at all, as they're already there. I played through the game without the aide of cheats the first time, on hard. I didn't have much trouble beating even Malak. However, when starting the second game, I couldn't resist boosting my stats a bit. Why? Well, because I think it's a bit silly that Revan, who by all accounts is some sort of galactic progeny, has lower stats than any other jedi in the party. If all characters start with an '8' in all attributes during character creation, then Bastila has a total of 38 points to boost her attributes however she wills it, Jolee is not far behind in that regard, having a total of 36 points to distribute, and Juhani comes in last with 33 free points. If I play, say, a consular, he will usually end up with attributes at the start as follows: STR 10, DEX 17, CON 10, INT 14, WIS 16, CHA 16. All in all, this boost in power is only peripheral -- his ac will be a point higher, his force powers will be a bit higher to resist. It's all about creating a character that lives up to the image of Revan.
  6. We've all seen the zany assertions that have begun to sprout like hair on the nostrils of the forums ever since more information about TSL has become available. I thought I might as well add my own thoughts. Firstly, it's pretty obvious that TSL will be heavily influenced by kotor 1. As such, one can expect the continuation of a few storylines started in the original to be found in the sequel. By this train of thought, I believe that the "older female jedi", the one pictured on the lucas' arts page and on the portal to these very forums, is none other than Juhani's old master, Quatra. Quatra was a compelling character in the original kotor in that she played such an unusual role in the development of Revan as well as Juhani, but was never actually present within the game. She left Dantooine for vague reasons just before Revan would have encountered her, too. The character just screams to be expanded on; it is almost as if Bio intended to include her in the sequel to the game they had not yet published. (Okay, it could be that I missed something in Juhani's story line in kotor and thus missed the chance to actually meet Quatra... though I've played through thoroughly several times and I have seen no mention of meeting her on various kotor related forums)

  8. Even DnD mages -- even the most unrealistically powerful of them -- can't create nuclear explosions and collapse stars. Gah, it seems as though some would increase the power of the force so as to compete with the technological marvels of star wars. What a stupid idea.
  9. *surrenders, yet remains spunky*
  10. The fact that your pc has the opportunity to waste time playing Pazaak contributes to the story line. It says what type of person you are role playing, whether your pc plays or does not play the game. Just because some gaming elements work in some games doesn't mean that they aren't unrealistic to implement in others. The fact that KotOR 2 is a sequel to an already linear game inhibits the options and amount of customization that a player has. Sure, there is still a good bit of room to maneuver, but, given the premise for and the nature of most star wars games, I doubt that a shifty rodian smuggler will have a chance to take out a gaggle of Sith Lords and save the Republic from destruction.
  11. Mini-games are evil. It's our civic duty to rail against their diabolic plans to subvert all good and decent role playing experiences into console driven (read: devil driven) blasphemies.
  12. OMG IM NOT HOLD ME1!!!!1!
  13. This is nothing. While "interactive 3D environments" may be of greater importance than Pazaak, that hardly says anything of the worth of Pazaak in and of itself, other than its relationship to the above. It warms my heart to know that you hate the seething tumor of evil known as bioware that festers on the ass of the world, but, sadly, I don't know how it could relate to the discussion. This is misconceived. Though I suppose the mistake is understandable, considering how you isolated the sentence that the above refers to, totally obliterating context. I suppose that I should be explaining every minute detail of my point of view or I'll just have to brace up for the pathetic, petty irrelevance and selective quoting that you are so readily and hapilly resort to. Pazaak could certainly remain part of the story line while still being optional; it would contribute to the overall atmosphere of the game somewhat. If you can't see that, then, well, I'm wasting my time. Hm, I'm awfully tired of gibbering pedants such as yourself. Wanting a realistically immersive game is one thing, but *demanding* the sort of unrealistic options that you do is quite another. At what point does obsessing over being and doing anything you want in a game with a total lack of regard to all the variables and inconsistencies that would create become just another form of elitist masturbation? You and Visceris, comrades in arms, out to change the face of the world, and let no man, god, or logical arguement stand in your path! Having an oh-so-enlightened view on crpgs seems a rather hollow excuse for frittering your life away on a messageboard, but, hey, at least that viewpoint always triumphs... right? Now, I'm am off to let the sweet tide of unconciousness overtake me. You have leave to return to a more favored means of discussion of a superior topic; that is, you're free to resume monosyllabicly grunting the glory that is fallout.
  14. Pazaak was an excellent edition to the game. It's small, trivial details like that that really flesh a game out. You say that the developers would be wiser in investing their time into more "critical" endeavors, such as combat? Well, player characters would also probably be wiser in training to become stronger rather than blowing credits on a stupid card game while the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance. However, it's unrealistic to assume that every character would or could maintain so narrow a focus. I'm not advocating mandatory mini-games -- they should probably all be optional -- I'm merely saying that mini games should be considered part of the story line of KotOR 2 itself, rather than just a pleasant (depending on your perspective) diversion from that story line.
  15. Well? Does Bastila's chronic crankiness have a cause? As the intrepid adventurers blasted through hyperspace, always searching for the elusive route to Malak and his forge of the stars, was Revan careening through a personal, less navigable hyperspace route to reach an opponent, as, if not more, despicable and disgusting than The Dark Lord of the Sith himself?
  16. Could her identity be any more obvious? Well, perhaps it could be more obvious if she brought her whip out of retirement, but I can't think of anything else that would potentiate the process of her identification.
  17. Nostradamus ain't got nuthin' on you, sweet pea.
  18. You don't need to play through with a female PC to find out that Juhani is a lesbian. Kill her and then talk to Belaya...
  19. I would have liked to play a bounty hunter type as well, but I recognize that allowing that much player customization would destroy a story-driven game like KotOR. Story and flexibility are somewhat inversely proportional to each other; if you want the ability to do anything you want with your character, I'd recommed that you play a less story-based game.
  20. There is roughly the same amount of logic in KotOR as is found in any other Star Wars based product, I believe.
  21. I hate calls for realism in video games. I think I'll lobotomize myself via taking a dive off the Chrysler building if someone decides to bring up Volumetric Encumberment. The Star Wars universe wasn't exactly all that logical to begin with, you know; I think it's a tad ridiculous to place constraints upon a product that the archetype it is based on never had to work under.
  22. If I'm a troll, then this is truly my territory. I think that I've seen Balthamael post a link to similar christian dogma parody sites in the past, always with outrageous and stunning results. Dense non-believers are suckered by the terribly subtle posts in the site's forum while god fearing christians respond to the attacks of the previously mentioned group. There are even a few select individuals who recognize the mockery for what it truly is. Regardless of that, however, is the fact that any enterprising troll with working Ctrl, C, and V keys has an infinetly renewable trolling tool that can consistently be used to devastating effect thanks to hoax-forums such as those Balthamael linked us to. Take heed, sinners, tired trouble makers, for your salvation is at hand!
  23. You might want to read a little into what I wrote, baby. Calling this thread a circle jerk is not to say that the posturing and vapid ego-boosting found here isn't entertaining; it's about as enjoyable as watching a blind man being led into a jet engine by a seeing-eye dog.
  24. Who would have thought that a thread centered around religion would turn into such a monolithic, writhing circle jerk.
