  1. Haven't you ever seen Serendipity?
  2. Too much for you to handle, eh? :D
  3. They should be, they've always been very prominent, particularly in the development organisations (UNICEF, UNESCO, UNDP and so on). If only the rest of the world had shown similar levels of commitment. Dag Hammerskjold was in my GCSE History exam. The UN system is based on the idea that regional organisations such as the Afican Union, Organisation of American States, and so on, should deal with regional problems, and the Security Council only intervene directly when the regional organisation can't. It's not a perfect system, but neither would having the whole world jump into every conflict be perfect. Israel and Lebanon is a clear case where there is no local organisation to which all parties belong, so it needs to be handled at Security Council level. That's only part of it, of course. Oil, the 'War on Terror' and proximity to Iraq, Iran's nuclear programme and links with Hezbollah, Western media biases of all kinds...
  4. It would be nice to see combat animations that were more realistic. I'd like to see my level 1 fighter struggling with his sword, or a character with low strength really exerting himself to swing an axe at lower levels, and for this slowly to become smoother and more professional as the character gains experience, attributes and levels. I'd also like to see them visibly tire over the course of a long fight, though I appreciate that D&D doesn't really handle stamina in that way. Maybe this kind of thing will come with next-next-gen? I always thought the gliding was rather silly in NWN1, but nothing that interfered with my enjoyment of the game. Still, since it happens nearly every time you start a new combat, you'd think it'd be worthwhile spending some time finding an alternative.
  5. Yes. Try to get some sleep. The only furniture with a use-by date, or is MFI still operating? Psychologically I find it's important to have one room that looks like a proper room, with all the furniture in place, rugs on the floor, pictures on the wall and so on. Every other room in the house can stay empty or a mess for months and I don't mind. To be honest, I prefer sitting cross-legged and sleeping on a futon, but I guess living in Japan will do that to you.
  6. Oblivion. I've played through as a knight character and member of the Fighter's Guild, and as a thief. That leaves the Mages guild and evil/Dark Brotherhood approaches, which I'm going to leave until I get a new computer with grass puddle-free graphics.
  7. I'd go with this. Really I'd go for any RPG set in the real past or present where magic or 'the Force' or anything of the kind doesn't exist. Stealth, diplomacy and combat would receieve extra attention. Other possible settings could include Ancient Rome (no gods, please), Renaissance Venice and the Mediterranean (I liked a lot of the original Pirates of the Caribbean/Sea Dogs 2 game, and think the idea of a ship-based RPG has a lot of potential), or modern-day London (if they can get some decent voice actors, **** van Dyke need not apply :D ). Edit:
  8. I think it sounds great. I always really appreciate having a home or base in any RPG, a place to drop off my stuff at the very least. Something as huge and interactive as this will be terrific fun. And it's a nice way of developing a character in the fantasy setting - PCs are forever getting called 'My Lord', and now he/she actually has to be a lord, with some of the responsibilities that go with the title. :D I only hope that all the work Obsidian is doing with previewers and publicity pays off, though. This is the kind of feature that reviewers can take the wrong way, i.e. a slight deviation from the standard RPG norm, shock horror! Obsidian doesn't need some idiot complaining that the stronghold system isn't as well developed as in, say, Stronghold, and therefore the game sucks. :D
  9. Yay, it's the free market! For all its imperfections, the free market remain a vital means of maintaining our prosperity and fighting global poverty. Personally, I don't care who owns a given football club any more than I care that half the players are from other countries! Non-US investors are presumably free to buy shares in, and potentially take control of, US sporting teams, right? Although I do recall some fuss last year when a UAE company tried to buy into US ports...
  10. As well as people who have their identities stolen, the victims of this crime are also the schools, medical clinics and NGOs in developing countries who won't get the computers they need because Westerners are frightened off donating because of this. These criminals are not just stealing from rich Westerners, they're stealing from the poorest of the poor.
  11. Broken Sword 4 (Nico ) Neverwinter Nights 2 (A really good RPG can yield 200+ hours of play ) Jade Empire for PC (Short but sweet, or so I hear) Sam & Max ( (w00t) ) Gothic 3 (Should be a showcase for my new graphics card - when I get it) The Silver Lining/KQ9 (Should be released any day now... :D ) In the more distant future: Fallout 3 The Elder Scrolls 5 Kotor 3 Projects New Jersey and Georgia Any other RPG or adventure with a decent story and not too much pointless clicking and fighting. If only... :'( Seriously? You'd buy that? You may be alone...
  12. Indeed, plus who knows how many more in the wee small hours when we're asleep. Assuming all of us actually do sleep. Obsidian need to update their anti-adbot software or whatever it is they have, but then that might expose half the forum members as AI.
  13. Wikipedia points to an interview with Feargus saying an XBox360 port was considered at one point.
  14. Yes. And? I don't actually use my cloth maps as tea towels, except in cases of extreme tea towel shortage, though I sometimes use them as coasters. I think it was Ultima VII that came with a really good quality cloth map that I've probably still got in a box somewhere, but not all cloth maps are so good. It has to have some weight to it, some thickness to the material, and avoid the bleached look of inferior dyes.
  15. It has to be a heavy, good quality cloth map. I've had cloth maps that wouldn't last a week as a tea towel. Are the contents of the LG and CE editions different in any way, or just the box? I object to the LG box being beige, by the way. I think the Kotor games have firmly established that evil is red and good is blue. Beige is lawful neutral.
  16. Unhappy memories. I wish I had some advice, but it took me hours and the one time I managed to get through it was a fluke more than anything. Still a very good game, though.
  17. Beneath a Steel Sky 2 would be great! Good to see someone optimistic about the Adventure genre, and not just the interactive movie path - as much as I enjoyed Fahrenheit, I don't think all adventures should go that route. September 15th can't come fast enough.
  18. I'm playing this now, and it's fantastic! I can't believe how much more I'm enjoying BG1 for itself, not just because I'm looking forward to taking the character into BG2.
  19. So they're liars and slavers, eh? That's it, I'm switching to ATI.
  20. Hey, I have an nVidia GeForce 6600GT! Do you mean that they sold it to me with some of the features locked away so I couldn't use them? Is that even legal?
  21. Judging by the turnover of mods, I'd say the latter and with a high mortality rate.
  22. NWN1 was PC-only, yes, but if NWN2 is a smash hit, who knows? Consoles seem to be more important now than when NWN was released.
  23. Me too. I mean, have you seen what people have been putting in the POST YOUR SPECS thread? I'm embarrassed to put my humble machine in there. Happily I do have the money for a new computer, and a fairly decent one at that. Unfortunately, though computers and computer parts are generally cheaper here, the latest and even semi-latest stuff isn't available. The fastest graphics card I can find is the nVidia GeForce6600, one of which is already chugging away animating my Oblivion grass puddle, thanks. I think I'll buy in the UK and bring back with me.
  24. I know what you mean. I can't disassociate 'stronghold' from the pet medication. I agree that strongholds sound really good, and this is probably the first feature of NWN2 that's really caught my attention in a positive way. Of course, I would have bought the game anyway, but it'll be an added bonus to play a game that is trying to add extra to the RPG experience.
