  1. No, I didn't mean to imply that you were saying that - I'm sorry you thought I was. I think it's difficult for Americans to have any understanding or sympathy for why Palestinians reacted like that, and I was trying to make the connection. There's not a great deal of difference between that and your classroom - or the callers to US talk radio who wanted to 'nuke Baghdad' - killing who knows how many civilians. However, I agree with julianw, too. While most of these kids will not act out their hatred, there may be a minority who do.
  2. And are these kids all evil would-be terrorists? Of course not. They're just angry, scared and ill-informed - exactly the same as the Palestinians who cheered when they heard the news of the September 11 attacks. Ken Livingstone (the Mayor) gave a really good speech from Singapore about how people from all over the world will continue to come to London and live together. It's great how Londoners are already pulling together to get through this.
  3. It looks like there were only four devices, three on underground trains and one on a bus. The reason there were initial reports of more was because bombs were exploding on trains between stations, so people were leaving the train and walking in either direction, emerging from different stations. The figure of 33 fatalities doesn't include the bus bombing yet, so it's certain to rise.
  4. It must have been fun to be here while Kotor 2 was being made (when there was actually something constructive to talk about).
  5. On behalf of everyone in the UK, thank you.
  6. If you're playing as a male Exile (so Disciple doesn't join you) then you get a cutscene of Disciple calling a Republic Admiral about you, and he gives his name.
  7. Agreed. And there's nothing unusual or naive about this statement - it's pure common sense.
  8. Just from memory, some of the Western bombings in Belgrade - notably the TV station, which killed a dozen or so civilians - seemed to be deliberate targetting of civilians, or at least disregard of likely civilian casualties. There was a big argument over whether a TV station was a legitimate target. However, as Darth Flatus said, this is not really the place for a detailed discussion of this. The BBC has quoted Italian radio saying there were 50+ fatalities. Not sure how they would know, but...
  9. It won't be as severe. September 11 was the first direct attack on the US, but London has seen many terrorist attacks, and the fatalities won't be anything like as many (we hope ). @Nur: If you're a terrorist group that wants to attack rich Westerners, the London transport system is a very strange choice of target. I guarantee that the list of casualties will include many poor people and many foreign nationals, of all skin colours and religions.
  10. One mobile phone network announced that it was blocking ordinary calls in order to give priority to the emergency services. And one commentator said that sometimes in this kind of emergency the phone companies switch their transmitters off because mobiles can be used to trigger further bombs. I hope your wife's family is OK.
  11. I just went out to the newsagents for something, and saw all the newspapers lying in a row, with colourful front page pictures of yesterday's celebrations of the Olympics win. It was a surreal and rather emotional moment. Has there ever been a city that went from such a high to such a low in the space of twenty-four hours?
  12. I think if people want to make points linking the war in Iraq with increasing international terrorism, that's fine. There are some valid arguments to be made there. But let's try to avoid the whole thread being dominated by detailed pro vs anti war arguments. I hope that's the point Darth Flatus was trying to make. Blair has said it's a terrorist attack, so it's only a matter of time before someone claims responsibility, I suppose. The radio is making an unconfirmed report that the bus explosion was a suicide bomber, which would be the first suicide bombing ever in the UK.
  13. Several independent eye-witnesses report having seen bodies, and the radio has broadcast this with caveats, but neither the police, London Transport nor the government have made any statements about deaths yet.
  14. We will see whether this kind of surveillance would have helped in this case. The problem is always that governments propose these intrusive measures, but when you examine their specific proposals and compare them with past attacks, they wouldn't have had any effect. This is happening right now in the UK over the plan to introduce compulsory identity cards. Now they're evacuating stations in Swindon and Brighton. Hopefully this is just a precaution, but the attacks might be headed outside London.
  15. I know. To be honest, a lot of people were expecting this earlier, during the general election. London's had plenty of terrorist attacks in the past from the IRA, so they're well prepared.
  16. Chimps? Are they protesting that speed banana-eating won't be an official Olympic event?
  17. With half our army in Iraq and the rest in Northern Ireland and Cyprus, we could probably invade San Marino just about. Is it tied to the Olympics? It's a hell of a coincidence, but doesn't this kind of thing take weeks or months of planning? It's not confirmed yet that the underground failure is due to terrorist attacks, but that at least can't be a coincidence - but it certainly (faking a power surge) must have taken a long time to prepare.
  18. I should say so. The whole tube network is down.
  19. I was planning to go into London today, but I put it off until next Friday. Now the radio is quoting Transport Union contacts saying there were three bus explosions.
  20. According to FIVE LIVE radio, the police have confirmed there was an explosion on a bus, too. It's looking less like a power surge, more like a terrorist attack.
  21. No, that would mean we would cease to exist. You wouldn't do that, would you? Would you?  Nooooooooo!
  22. Every night when the clock strikes midnight, one of you ceases to exist.
  23. George Lucas meets Captain Pugwash. :D Seriously, I'd quite like to see Attack of the Clones made by George Lucas. The Gerry Anderson version didn't work for me.
  24. Yaaaaaay!!! :D :D I just felt like cheering when I read this. Akari, you're a hero. Thanks for your generous words, and please come back to the forums more often. (And good luck with NWN2) I'm going to go and calm down now.
  25. I've heard that the missing three movies are in fact the introductory videos (company logos and that kind of thing) which are failing to be counted. You probably haven't actually missed anything. We all know that Kotor 2 was hurried towards the end, so I guess Obsidian forgot to set the numbers correctly.
