That is not right. It is understandable to detest unions when they overstep their boundries.

2 things Union's aren't always a good thing. It seems like now a days the Teachers union is designed to keep the teachers from having to do work (My highschool math teacher was the Union rep for the school... she was proud that she had forced the school to literally cut down class times to the bare minimum of what the local Union had to work... and this was done in the scale of minutes). Also at a higher level it seems like the Teachers Union in particular is somewhat useless. Once a teacher gets vested or tenure or some such then they can't be kicked out for being a bad teacher. This was a problem at my highschool where my Science teacher was a drug addict (painkillers) and was also emotionally unstable. half way through my second year the school finally had enough leverage to have him forcefully retired. And two: Was it Nixon who fired every union air traffic controller that was union because the union was asking for outrageous benefits and even higher pay when they were the highest paid group on the planet? Those are the negative sides of unions having too much power. Like democracy, the system isn't perfect and is still very open to abuse. Balance is the key. It seems like the employers aren't making any demands themselves, why is that?

I do not mind the basic idea of forming a union, but it also comes with a great deal of responsibility. If one looks at history on how unions where originally formed (safety demands, vacation, 8 hour working day and so on), it looks like a natural progression of a industrial society. The key-word here is negotiation. Through negotation, the parties come to a compromise, and with a compromise there's stability in the workforce and society. I mean, it is easy to dismiss unions when one is, like me, working in an industry-sector where the expertise of the individual counts the most. But it is more difficult if one is in the construction-sector, or working as a nurse or a factoryworker. With the american automakers, they make as much as head surgeon make in Finland, so something has clearly gone wrong. I blame the automakers themselves for being bad at negotiating a deal that also works in the employers favor (employers usually form unions as well). If the unions have complete control over a sector, then a stalemate is imminent. The balance has been tipped, and banning unions would only tip the scale to the other direction, making it worse for "joe sixpack".

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Discussion
Meshugger replied to Darque's topic in Computer and Console
Preordered since the day it was possible, and hopefully it will arrive at the day of release as promised (practically, it will never happen). -
I bought some "clothes". My girlfriend thought that it would be a good idea for me to buy some new clothes while i was on my businesstrip. "Since you're visiting a bigger town, there's a higher possibility to actually find something", she said. I came home with The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, 2 pairs of underwear and 4 pairs of socks. And pop, or whoever asked, i am working as a software consultant/specialist.

What constitutes as a typical "japanese"-look? In my world of ignorance, every korean/japanese/chinese look alike.

Finally my Q6600 will be up to the test But 18GB?! Holy uncompressed audio/textures-batman!

From what i gather, Dashus hasn't been involved since the first of september. Apparently, it is due to personal reasons. But it also seems like he his the one pulling threads or so to speak, since he is the buildmaster. Doesn't Team-Gizka have anyone that can replace him? By the looks of it, the project seems to be at a complete stall at the moment. Surely there has to be people out there with more motivation and equal knowledge, right?

My brother just told that in the town where he lives in (60 000 inhabitans), there where atleast 200 in queue on the midnight sale at one store. This is ridicolous

But, but how can anyone be objective when the election is about Optimus Prime vs. Skeletor?
-
After moving to a different town for my new job, i have now been assigned to do some work for the rest of the week in the very same town that i moved from. Now i will experience the city that i lived in for several years as an university student now as a businessman instead; living in a nice hotel with full accomodation. Might broaden ones horizon a bit.

Of all other forums and blogs that are out there, this is the most sane one from a republican point of view. I sense a Ron Paul-lite message on the incoming election.

There's rumors going around the 'net that ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER (yes, his name requires caps-lock) might become the head of energy in the Obama administration. Sounds too absurd to be real, IMO.

I don't know if you or Mr. Insomniac had seen this: http://www.planescapetrilogy.com/ I got all excited over CODI too an nothing came of it. So I try not to get excited over this to avoid that heartbreak again. Yeah, but sadly the project have subject to constant delays, so i will remain carefully optimistic about until it is released, if ever.

New RPGVault Interview
Meshugger replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
"Hi there my fellow agent with extensive training. I am just a local barkeep with a local problem: I have rats in my cellar and i just can't get rid of them all. You like one with some sense of adventure, would you like to help me? I will greatly reward you with <insert simple reward here> for your troubles!" -Suave: "Well of course my fellow barkeep, keep the martinis flowing while i am away" -Neutral: "That is possible, but i expect to be payed for my trouble" -Bauer: *grabs collar* "I WILL END YOU AND YOUR RATS" -
I think that the possibility of a NX3 or NWN3 is slim at best, but atleast higher than Guard Dog's wonderfully utopian game. I think that Obsidian's next D&D-game will be in the vein of "Waterkeep Mornings".

I misread in a slight point of rage. My appologies. And you're right about racism in general, it manifests itself differently in different cultures.
-
By the same logic, you can start by paying up reperations for every slave in north america. But that is not even the point here. Aristes (i think) was comparing apples to oranges, and that's all that there's to it.

YOU KNOW THE WORLD? PLEASE SHARE ME YOUR INFINITE WISDOM FROM OUR COLLECTED CONSIOUSNESS! 'Want' and 'smart' is the wrong word here. 'Not an a**hole' and 'simply decent' are. Do you honestly think that Ron Paul, Romney, Kucinich, Nader or even Hillary would've gathered any different reactions?
-
It was a joke. A haha thing. A slight pun for those that are seing socialism everywhere. Why of course you can compare Obama presidency and it's symbolic nature considering of the history of the black people in the united states to Europe. I mean, a continent that didn't even have a black community until the 1970's(and barely now for that matter), when the first batch of caribeans moved here for the job oppurtunities? Of course that is completely sound and reasonable. Fair.and.square. Or maybe we should drop the whole 'socialism' charade that you all are chasing and start pondering about how the issues will be dealt under the Obama administration? Do they have a possibility of success? What should be prioritized and why? What are the short and long term goals?

Socialism:

And oh, i would like to add that Ron Paul and other libertanians are of some reason very unknown outside the halls of universities.

I call it Rubbish. Whether if you're right-wing or left-wing in europe, there are a couple of things that the politicians of any spectrum would never try to abolish: Social security, Free healthcare and free education. Traits on the each "extreme"-side: - Right-wingers are usually more traditionalistic, even reactionary at times on social issues, such as immigration (they see it as a destruction of the national identity), marriage, gays, drugs and so on. They may want to lower the taxes and make social security less beneficial, but no one is openly talking about abolishing it. - Left-wingers usually want to emphasize on 'fairness', strongly pro immigration, keeping a strong middle class through taxes, as they see great differences between classes as a threath to social harmony. -Abortion is only debated in Ireland. - Creationism and intelligent design is seen as borderline retarded by either side. On Obama, he is liked because of his character and apparent judgement. He is calm, level-headed and has an idealistic charm that makes him really likeable. On his policies however, he is far from the socialists of Europe for the following reasons: - He is pro-death penalty (i have to check that one to be sure) - Even with his karma of calmness, he is still way to imperialist on his foreign policy for most socialists. - Doesn't support the welfare-state in the eyes of the european socialists. - Pro-gun in the eyes of european socialists. Basically, by European standards, he would be considered to be somewhat beurgeois and definately rightwing, but with a positive message. Ralph Nader is a centrist by european standards. Dennis Kucinich as well.
