Purkake Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Yes, Gratuitous Space Battles is indeed a video game. It's an indie strategy game where you don't directly control your units, but give them tactics beforehand and then watch it play out. There's tons of customization, muliplayer and whatnot for all you strategy nerds. Check out the demo.
entrerix Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 this sounds awesome! Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.
Humodour Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Apparently the entire game is made by one guy.
Deadly_Nightshade Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Apparently the entire game is made by one guy. Wow... Impressive! "Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum." -Hurlshot
Monte Carlo Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 If I downloaded that, on top of DA and CoH, I'd be getting a divorce.
Mera Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Nice, going to try this asap. Apparently the entire game is made by one guy. Wow... Impressive! Yeah cliffski is a former Lionhead developer.
michaelleung Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Tried the demo out, and I can finally live out my Commander Adama fantasies.
Purkake Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 More like Commander Thrawn fantasies, right?
theslug Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Think this deserves a bump. Demo is a solid hour of fun. Not going to pay 20+ dollars for the full version but a pretty neat idea and good execution. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.
Gorth Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 A bit too much "RTS" for my liking. Lots of nice ideas though. Would have made a nice combat part of a campain game a'la MOO2, if you could change tactics and give orders during the battle. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein
Purkake Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 So I finally played a bunch of this and while there is some stuff I would like more control over, I had a ton of fun with it. Anyone who passed on the demo because of Dragon Age or Modern Warfare 2, take a bit of a break and chill out with some awesome spaceship on spaceship action.
Malcador Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Looks cool, thanks for telling. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
Purkake Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 Thanks to the Steam sale GSB is only 10 bucks/euros, go get it you bums! Also, there's an expansion pack - The Tribe that adds a new race and whatnot. If you did get it and played the crap out of it, check out the forums there's a ton of patches, mods and other stuff to keep you going.
jaguars4ever Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Beam is the new pulse. Worth buying for that alone.
