So I am looking at playing a multiclass wizard/ rogue got some questions if anyone knows them:

1. Can you buy spells and add them to your grimoire in Deadfire because if your a multiclass wizard then you can avoid selecting spells at level up and just select your other classes powers. can i just rely on buy spells or finding grimoires ??

2.We we be able to re-roll our character at inns in deadfire for a fee like pillars one? this will help incase i select wrong abilities/ spells

Not sure, though you will have to pick spells every 3 levels when you go up a power level. I find the idea of a spellblade who focuses mainly on rogue stuff and just steals spells from other grimoires thematically appealing, though. I say go for it, it may or may not end up being a bad idea but its cool thematically. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As far as I understand it you can't learn spells and Grimoires have fixed spell selections i.e. you can't modify them. A very minor spoiler about Grimoires:

In FilthyRobot's stream he looked at a Grimoire in a shop in the first town you reach and it had two spells per Power Level for all Power Levels. From this I'd expect all Grimoires to do the same i.e. I wouldn't expect any to lack high level spells. Moreover I'd expect that the rarer Grimoires will contain unique spells that you can't learn normally like Llengrath, Concelhaut and Ninagauth's Grimoires.

yeah the problem is though is that there are only a select few spells that give the good self buffs that i need and if i skip them to select rogue powers and rely on finding the spells in grimoires and dont end up finding them i could be up a sh&t creek

You dont have to get spells as there are passives that the mage can get as a MC. You have to get one spell at first level, and you can grab mage passive abilities after that. Now whether you can find enough passives worth taking... That's a different story. There are 7 points you have to put into the wizard tree. So id look to see what passives seems appropriate and go for it.

A lot of mage passives are spell related, though. Keep that in mind.

Edit: between the two classes you may be forced to buy spells just from lack of options combined with the slower power advancement of a MC. That's the only other hitch I can think of.

I have a similar question. If I multi-class a specialist wizard, does the +1 power level for X spells let me cast say level 8 spells of the specialist school even though I have multi-classed which normally caps spell levels to 7?

Nope. In this case it's +1 Power Level of cast spells i.e. the spells you can (from that school) will be slightly more powerful. It doesn't mean you have access to spells of a Power Level higher (yeah, Obsidian used Power Level to mean two different, but related, things).

Thanks, this is the kind of thing that can make a significant impact on class choices at the start of the game.

In retrospect, they could have just differentiated between 'skill level' and 'power level' to make it easier to understand.

I could imagine there being a place for a wizard multi-class that specializes in a school and hence looses two schools for the benefit of preserving most of one, but based on this, the wizard sub-classes look quite unappealing now.

Agreed. It hadn't really occurred to me until you asked the question because I've been familiar with the concept for ages, but I can see how (in this case) it's confusing.

Yeah I don't rate them that highly. The Evoker's ability is pretty decent but I'm not sure it's worth the penalties.

One small thing I have noticed, it looks like the 'bonus power level' covertly increases accuracy of spells by one. The Illusionist spell blade I tried out had accuracy 27 for evo and trans spells (20 + 4 + 3) and 28 accuracy for illusion spells (still listed as 20 + 4 + 3).

I play spellblade main character. Streetfighter rogue and normal wizard. Using double blunderbuss. Basicaly same style as Sintee showed in his beta videos.

Regarding the grimoires you cant change spells in them. You just have to find and use a grimoire which has most of the spells you want to use and use that one. That way you can save lot of skill points and use them on passives and rogur abilities instead. You will likely have to respec for this, but dont worry, respec is cheap. FYI, slight spoiler, there is llengrath grimmoire you can buy in Nekkataka and that one is very nice fit for this type of character. Couple of spells you will have to use the points regardless, but not many.

In general you will want to use instant cast buffs mostly. Buff your defenses and then go ham.
