Zekiel79
Is the only way to get new dice to pay real money in the store? (I'm not wild about doing that for something that's purely cosmetic.) Or are they still available as random drops from chests? (I haven't got any yet from opening 3 chests) I've searched a few forums but have only managed to find posts from 2016 about dice and I gather the game economy has changed rather a lot since the release of the PC version! Guest
They will randomly drop from chests
Ethics Gradient
It shouldn't have changed too much from the original 1 in 4 odds. Redeem 100 chests and you should get, on average, 25 dice sets of varying rarities.
Guest
Hmm. Based on my own experience, I’d say it’s a little more rare than that. I usually pick up chests 6 at a time. I’d say I consistently see one set of dice every other purchase (so 1 in 10 maybe?). Obviously sometimes I get more, but sometimes I get none, so... Ethics Gradient
They very well could be rarer now. The one in four figure was confirmed by the developers (and empirical data) way back during the mobile-only days before runes and charms and stuff. It's been long while since there's been any official comments about the state of the RNG pool. Incidentally, it could still be 1/4 if you factor in whatever black magic the "Rune of Wonder" is working. If it is only boosting the chances of cards, not dice, it is really easy to get closer to 1/6 odds if runes are active.
Guest
That makes sense. I always have RoW active.
Zekiel79
Thanks for the advice! So it sounds like if I want to find dice I'm [probably] better of NOT using a Rune of Wonder - have I understood that right?
Ethics Gradient
Thanks for the advice! So it sounds like if I want to find dice I'm [probably] better of NOT using a Rune of Wonder - have I understood that right? Potentially, but it shouldn't matter all that much in the long-term. I just don't know for certain how a Rune of Wonder "Doubles the chance of finding Rare, Epic or Legendary items from chests". That's all back-end wizardry, and you can only guess at the math involved from the client-side. Last we knew, the base drop rate to get a set of dice (any rarity) was about one in four chests redeemed. If the RoW doubles the odds for every Rare/Epic/Legendary, then dice odds skew down to one in five because about half the dice are Uncommon rarity. If the RoW doubles the odds for only Rare/Epic/Legendary cards, then the dice drop gets closer to one in six because all dice would be at a disadvantage. Worst-case, the RoW could lower dice drop by 8-9%, but it is likely closer to 5%. Again, it's all best-guesses trying to sort out black-box stuff. The Treasure system is an arcane beast we may never truly know.
Zekiel79
Thank you! I'll keep plugging away with chests then. 4 so far and no dice (literally or figuratively!)
Guest
FWIW, I was pretty much in the same boat (from the sound of things). At some point it occurred to me that my time (grinding away at the game to earn gold which I would then use to buy chests which I would hope contained dice, knowing that some were going to be much less likely to spawn than others) was probably more valuable than my money ($1.99). I broke down and bought the dice set and haven’t had any regrets. My $0.
Zekiel79
Yeah I basically agree with you. But it sticks in the craw a bit to pay for content that's only cosmetic. (I'm fully intending to shell out for the Obsidian Edition once I've finished the base campaign once or twice.) Also it is a bit annoying that the dice bundle now costs £2.99 (apparently £=$ in this economy!) I've promised myself I won't grind for gold! Guest
All good. Just be aware that the Obsidian Edition doesn’t include the master dice set (and there are a few dice that the set doesn’t include). You may also want to ask around and ensure that you won’t lose any dice you do find when you upgrade; I think I lost a few cards when I linked accounts (which isn’t the same thing, but makes me worry for you). Zekiel79
Thanks. Yeah I'd gathered the Obsdian Edition doesn't include dice (in fact I can't see that it includes anything about from the Goblin Dice from RotG but I'm probably wrong!) - that's why they're the main thing I want to get from chests. Guest
Hmm. I think the goblin dice do come with RotG, but I’m not 100% sure.
Ethics Gradient
The Goblins DLC includes six sets of the asymmetrical goblin dice. And as a general reminder, there are several dice sets that do not come in treasure chests, and may not be available to easily acquire. Red - Part of the RoTR bundle/Steam Edition Obsidian - Obsidian Employees; sometimes awarded to players for meritorious bug-hunting efforts Haunted - Halloween 2016/2017 dice Jingle - Christmas 2016 dice Nathan's Tribute - For players of Quest Mode before it was removed from the game Goblin Stones - Part of the Goblins DLC/Obsidian Edition Asmodee - Free if you link your Asmodee account
Zekiel79
Thanks for the advice! Sounds most of those dice sets aren't available any more, aside from Asmodee... and with the bugginess of this game as it is a bit apprehensive about linking yet another account in case it messes something up! Anyway now I've found green dice in my fifth chest! So I just need one more set and then all of my 4-person party can have different colours. That's all I want really.
Hannibal_PJV
Yep. It is really nice to see who is providing the dice. Hopefully the game in the future better can see who is provifing what. Sometimes the dice Colour does not work as intended, but most of the time it does.

The Obsidian edition (which I think you mentioned you plan on buying) comes with a handful of basic dice. I wanna say it was enough for a party of six, but memory fails me. As for the Asmodee account, I did it with no troubles. There isn’t any content to link, so the risk is 0.

It's been well over a year since that little easter egg was fist found; it's probably okay to go public (if it even still works).
Zekiel79
THANK YOU! That does still work! I'd even happened across that Obsidian post a while ago (before I was searching for dice) and then forgotten all about it!
