Bogdanov89 Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 I recently started PoE, but i am a bit confused about attributes (even after reading the gamepedia). Please correct me if i am wrong and explain: Dexterity - makes all melee/ranged attacks and spells faster to perform/cast, better reflex saves. So this pretty much speeds up your character, so he can attack and cast spells faster in combat? Perception - makes your melee/ranged attacks and spells more likely to interrupt, adds to accuracy, better reflex saves. Does the interrupt bonus from Perception also apply to spells, especially AoE spells? Is Perception's bonus to Accuracy actually significant for some classes, and worth putting a lot of points? Resolve - helps with concentration (anti-interruption), deflection and will saves. Since it guards against Interruption, this seems like an important stat for a character that will be attacked by enemies? Is this defense against Interruption important for characters that will rarely (if ever) be attacked by enemies? Most guides i have read about damage dealing (DPS) characters put little value into Perception's Accuracy bonus? I thought that the Accuracy bonus from Perception is amazing for ANY damage dealer (barb, wizard, druid, rogue, ranger, cipher)? Do all classes get the same benefit from attributes? Will my Wizard get as much benefit from +10 Constitution/Perception/Dexterity/Resolve as my Fighter, or my Ranger? Or do some classes get very poor increases from certain attributes, resulting in very low benefit from investing in those attributes? Thank you very much for helping me out
Tigranes Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Couple of things on your last 2 Qs: Accuracy is perhaps the single most important number out of the lot, so yes it matters. You don't necessarily need 18 perception for everybody, though. It depends on what you want from each character, because each class will also have different base accuracy values that you might feel is enough or needs a top-up for what you want them to do. Each class benefits the same from attribute gain, and the gain for each point of any attribute is clearly stated in the level up screen and character screen. How useful that is for you is a different matter. Mechalibur Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Perception is very important for anyone making a lot of attacks. Before the 2.0 patch, it added to deflection instead of accuracy; you might be looking at dated guides where it wasn't that useful.
Zaret Voruta Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Resolve - helps with (anti-interruption), deflection and will saves. Since it guards against Interruption, this seems like an important stat for a character that will be attacked by enemies? Resolve gives also deflection bonus with is more important than concentration in overall defence department. Deflection is direct defence against accuracy, basically it is anti-accuracy. With high deflection your character will rarely get hit or will receive less damage. Concentration play a role when character or enemy get hit while performing melee attack, reloading or casting spell. It is defence against Interruption. Successful interruption check will cancel you enemy action, additionally stopping their recovery for set amount of time, depending on used weapon, from 0.05 sec to 1 sec. Successful concentration check will protect you from being interrupted. In both scenarios person being hit will receive damage regardless from interruption check. Is this defense against Interruption important for characters that will rarely (if ever) be attacked by enemies?Every Character will get attacked at some point, there are enemies that will teleport or sneak to you back line so high concentration and deflection will help. Personally I never dump Resolve below 10 on any created character.
AndreaColombo Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Dexterity - makes all melee/ranged attacks and spells faster to perform/cast, better reflex saves. So this pretty much speeds up your character, so he can attack and cast spells faster in combat? Yes. Dexterity affects the speed of every action you make, including attacks, spell casting, sipping potions, and reading scrolls. It also speeds up your recovery time between actions, as well as the reload animation that plays after recovery when using firearms in combat. Anything else in the game that affects "attack speed" only applies to recovery. Ideally, Dexterity is important to every character. As mentioned by Mechalibur, up until patch 2.0 Perception used to affect Deflection rather than Accuracy. This is the reason why most guides seem not to consider it very much. Accuracy is important to every character that is not in a support or tankish role. However, keep in mind that the game was balanced without the Accuracy bonus from Perception in mind. Up until patch 2.0 you couldn't boost your Accuracy through stats, yet it was absolutely possible to beat enemies to a pulp with your DPS characters. No rebalancing was made post 2.0 that would require you to pump Perception to be good at combat. That said, it is an important stat and putting points in it will make a difference. You just don't necessarily need to max it out on all characters. It depends. Flat bonuses (e.g. +1 Accuracy/point from Perception; +1 Deflection/point from Resolve; etc.) benefit all characters in the same way. Percentage-based bonuses benefit more those classes that already have a high base value to begin with (e.g. Fighters will benefit from Constitution a lot more than Wizards; characters wielding high-damage weapons will benefit from Might more than characters using fast, low-damage weapons.)
