Phantoms on Solo PotD (v. minor spoilers)

So I've just got to Caed Nua (the very minor spoiler being it's on the main quest path) with my solo build (Fire Godlike Kind Wayfarer; abilities - Flame Devotion, Lay on Hands, Zealous Endurance; talents - the shield one, Vulnerable Attack; my starting stats were 12 Con, 18 Res, 18 Per and the rest 10s) but I'm finding my character completely stun locked by phantoms - as in I literally have no opportunity to attack even once. Possibly, I might be able to slog through a couple of fights using the summonable Animat from the Bronze Horn Figurine, but it's going to be a huge pain and maybe not even possible (for Buried Secrets I only had to fight one to get to the remains, which was quite easy with the Animat - all routes to the main keep in Caed Nua boast at least two and many more Shades/Shadows).

 

Is there something I'm missing here? Anyone have strategies for what can be done to eliminate them?

Stealth your way to the main hall, hugging the south wall. In the main wall stealth your way to the statue tsking the north pass, you will get quite near some phantoms but with high enough stelth you should make it till the dialogue starts. Dialogue breaks stealth, so after it you will have to fight. Run into the corner right above the statue (northwest, east of the door) you need fast runner. once in the corner summon your animat in front of you. have the animat slightly on your right side, when you face the phantoms, so you can go to its left, so you cna cast fan of flames. you can have up to 6 scrolls by then, 3 scrolls are enough to kill all phantoms, be careful not to hit your animat, maybe you need to drink eldritch aim before casting to improve your hitrate. After you killed Maerwald the remaining shadows and phantoms outside disappear.

EDIT: Yeah hugging the south wall to sneak into the keep and then using Fan of Flames scroll spam and some traps really helps.

3. Retalitation gear helps a ton against shades (they attack in melee), chances are that they will themself on you while you are stun locked. You should have Sanguine Armor with you already.

4.  In solo you want to stack AS HIGH Fortitude and Will (so Might, CON, INT and RES, dump DEX and PERC) as possible to have as much chances as you can to avoid stun lock/CC. Deflection can be easy boosted by gear.

You definitely don't get Sanguine Plate by Caed Nua, but yes I'm going to pick up retaliation gear as soon as possible.

You are missing that there is no need to fight them at all. But if you want to fight them solo PotD, feel free I wont stop you. Been there, got the t-shirt without figurine and traps and now I don't fight them no more.

As Raven said, you definitely need to fight some of them in Caed Nua.

There is pinned thread called Solo play tips (not exploits (PoTD)) and while I and others do not contribute there lately no more for various reasons Caed Nua is described there few times.

 

Unless very high For and perhaps potion shortening effects everyone gets stunlocked there.
