Hi fellow Obsidian and Kotor fans
you clearly know about SWTOR treatment of Revan and KOTOR,already insulting, but i wanted to talk about Shadow of Revan, the latest expansion of SWTOR that it was clearly the end of Revan
for those who like SWTOR or  simply don't like harsh but constructive criticism, please don't read

what i think that they have done a very poor job
they have ruined Revan for the last time making him a one dimensional villian.

basically what the TOR "Writers" had done is to turn Revan evil once again.making his redemption in KOTOR 1 pointless
the poor sod is just being constantly torn apart and made him turn back and forth on light and dark side for expansions and more money

even when it was previously  stated that he didn't die and that was alive, but that he used the "Fold Space" ability to get out of,it was retconned that Revan pyshically died after the foundry, but when he went to join the force the dark side part of him didn't want to and used his dead body as vessel, kicking out the "lightside" part as ghost and splitting in two
apparently, after all his struggle with the emperor, his redemption solved nothing and meant nothing,
the novel made his fight with the emperor a personal matter and the goal of his life, but since he was just letting himself die for no reason just because "hey i was defeated,i'll just myself die in a minor appearance after 300 years of struggle that i resisted and give up on my main objective that i spent half of my life to fight "
with that logic,he could have just stood in the known space without going to Dromund Kaas because he would have died anyway
Revan's goal was to defeat the old sith empire,it was his destiny to do it
now we will have the next ****ty expansion with the JK and Republic players gang up against the emperor with a shoehorned Revan ghost that will say "hey good luck with that"
Since he was freed from the foundry he has been constantly being harassed, underplayed and written to be a kid's show villian

the Ofiicial wikia information

"So many centuries. The Emperor and his Dread Masters, trying to wrench me apart, to unleash my anger and hatred… I detached myself from the pain. Focused on the Force."
"You hid behind Jedi platitudes! You weren't strong enough to survive the torture, or the battle in the Foundry. I faced them! I survived them!"
"You carried on, dragging the remains of a body that should have long since faded to dust." ―The two halves of Revan

However, his long imprisonment had an adverse effect on Revan. Because of his link to the Emperor's mind, he was able to temper the Sith ruler's hatred and desire for war,  but Revan was influenced in turn, and he underwent centuries of torture at the hands of the Emperor and the Dread Masters. The Sith sought to twist Revan to the dark side once more, and though he was able to resist their efforts, he was forced to separate himself from the pain and focus solely on the Force. This had the effect of splintering Revan's mind between its light and dark halves, though the effect was not evident at first.  By the time he was released, he had come to view the Empire and the Emperor as a scourge on the galaxy that he would sacrifice his moral principles to destroy. Using the Foundry, Revan intended to unleash an army of extermination droids upon the people of the Empire, and he was once again willing to sacrifice innocents in order to advance his cause

When Revan was defeated in the Foundry, he died and attempted to became one with the Force. However, his darker half—the part driven by hatred and anger—resisted and retained control over Revan's body, while the rest merged with the Force and became a spirit. The new "dark" Revan became obsessed with destroying the Emperor permanently, and he readily accepted leadership of the fanatical Order of Revan. He viewed both the Empire and the Republic as obstacles to his plans and so sought to remove them, and believed that he was strong enough to defeat the Emperor despite having failed before. While the light Revan possessed the original's wisdom and compassion, the dark half possessed the Revan's strength and focus but clouded by hatred. It was not until the dark Revan's defeat on Yavin that the two halves joined together once again, and the newly whole Revan was able to fade away and become one with the Force. After being freed from the Maelstrom Prison, Revan's face was permanently scarred with circular marks and lines and his death in the Foundry left his face even more scarred.

Thoughts? lame ending for such a good character thrown away for money

i'm not good at explaining, but i know for sure that this is not the ending that Revan should had, make him turn on the republic and empire again it's a lame cliche'

Personally, I could not care less what Bio does with Revan anymore as his story for me ended in cliffhanger fashion after KoTOR 2.

But, these developments are unfortunate as it pretty much eliminates any possibility of a KotOR 3 leaving off where the Sith Lords ended in The Exile's search for Revan.

Oh well. Good thing Lucasarts is throwing EU continuity out the door for the next set of movies anyway.

thank you for the reply :)

i'm one of the few people that still cares about Revan and KOTOR after all these years,it would have been better if they didn't include him at all in the MMO

the only hope we have is that Obsidian takes the license someday and can reboot KOTOR and finish Revan's story in KOTOR 3

but in the meantime we see what used to be one of the best characters in SW torn apart,it saddens and makes me upset at the same time

that "expansion" was the last straw of patience i had,i have now deleted all my info on TOR

BioWare's approach to their franchises appears to be the following:

Step 1: Load gun

Step 2: Aim gun at foot

Step 3: Squeeze trigger until magazine is empty

The Sith Emperor is a classic example of where the Star Wars EU goes wrong. It's as if the writers looked at original trilogy and thought, "All right, let's take Palpatine and make him A THOUSAND TIMES more powerful and evil!" This is a Kevin J. Anderson level of suck right here.

Really, I'm not sure what BioWare hopes to accomplish by shoehorning Revan into SWTOR like this. They have to know on some level that few fans of the KotOR games will accept what they've done with him. But people who've never experienced those games won't have any understanding of just why Revan is such an important character. So when they drag his carcass in their MMO, just who is it supposed to appeal to?

All in all, it reminds me of the awful Baldur's Gate novelisations that tried to establish a "canon" Bhaalspawn...and were almost universally hated by the fans.

Your thoughts?

First off, I'm no Revan fan. Always hated him since he forced my scoundrel to change class to Jedi in Kotor1 (yes, I'm petty like that).

Thoughts... the inclusion of anything lorewise from the first two games never made sense in the mmo. Especially not when the Imperial and Republic sides have mutually exclusive versions of what happens (defeat/kill him versus free him and bring him on your side).

Lacking a Kotor3, Revan and the entire story arc should have died with Kotor2 never to be touched again in any shape and form, as it could only ever end in weird stuff mixed with mediocrity. No pre-written story line can compare to the one you experience playing your own characters.

===============================================

Planescape: Torment and Shadow of Revan spoilers:

===============================================

SoR's ending is actually a rip off of the much better Planescape:Torment's; even the merging sequence and some lines of post-fight dialogue are plainly "inspired" by that game.  BioWare's writers primarily flopped the roles of the "Transcendent" Revan and his Broken One physical counterpart, making the latter the one that wanted to avoid his fate.

Planescape:Torment (one possible ending)

THE TRANSCENDENT ONE: "Yes.  I am that which was split from you by the hag's power."

THE TRANSCENDENT ONE: "The moment I was split from your cancerous shell, I knew life.  I knew freedom.  I shall not surrender it to you."

NAMELESSS ONE: "We were not meant to be separated.  And the Planes have suffered because of our separation."

REVAN REBORN: "I cast you out!  It was the only way to go on -- to remain and finish what we started.  You were holding me back!"

TRANSCENDENT REVAN: "You think you're stronger this way, but you're not.  Neither of us is.  We're broken.  We can't go on like this."

...

NAMELESS ONE: "Re-unite with me.  We will become one again, as we were meant to be."

THE TRANSCENDENT ONE: "You know not what you do.  If we are re-united then it shall be an ending.  There shall be no future for us.  We shall go on to future torments."

TRANSCENDENT REVAN: "You're too weak.  You won't last."

REVAN REBORN: "I.... if we unite, what I am -- won't it fade?  Become diminished...?"

...

DAK'KON "Your voice... have you at last come to know yourself?"

MERGED NAMELESS ONE: "Yes.  It was a ... difficult thing, and it cost many lifetimes.  Many suffered so that I might know myself again."

SITH INQUISITOR: "You have found your center."

MERGED REVAN: "I have.  For the first time in a long time."

but it's bad writing anyway, doing this to a character like Revan means making him even more one dimensional

The thing is, KotOR2 had many elements obviously inspired by PS:T. Kreia is clearly based on Ravel Puzzlewell, Darth Sion is very much like The Nameless One, Mira has some similarity to Annah, and so on. Hardly surprising, considering it was developed by many of the same people.

But...splitting Revan into some Jekyll-and-Hyde creature? That's not Kevin J. Anderson level of stupid, that's...that's...

...hell, that's Jedi Prince level of suck. Not quite The Star Wars Holiday Special level of suck, but I figure it's only a matter of time.

I am probably "the" Number one Revan fan to the point of anyone that knows me gaming or otherwise refer to me as "Revan".  I wanted to get my IRL legal name changed to Revan and have played all the way threw Kotor 1 nearly 500 times.  I've Role Played as Revan and only as him for over 11 years now.

I do truly say he should be the first actual ageless/immortal being in SW,  TOR is and should always be non canon.   I'm aware that the Clone Wars series nearly had Revan re-established as a canon character but the idea was passed to George and at first approved then he changed his mind, and I actually agree simply because the way they would have him remembered would have been as a Darth, and Revan shouldn't primarily be remembered as a Darth since his greatest deeds were done as a Jedi.  I'm also sure George likes Revan a lot and is probably upset with what happened to him in TOR, even before SoR.  The lack of effort in his outfit and then the "Revan outfit" given to players was...just...-_- no words.  If it wasn't for Kotor 1 we would never have had Mass Effect or Dragon Age 2 of the best RPGs ever under Kotor 1&2.

So that's my thoughts towards this, what happened to Revan after Kotor 1&2 should just simply be ignored.

Shoehorning Revan and the Exile into a mmo that had little to nothing to do with the games they came from was silly to me. I blame the novel "Revan" personally. It threw them both under the bus. And just so the two could show up in a medicore mmo that has went free to play. KoTOR 2 is where it ends for me.

In defense of SoR, I thought the story was going in a good direction when you find the ghost of Revan, my guess was that Revan actually did die on the Foundry and this new Revan was nothing more than an imposter, fooling the Order of Revan and everyone else, I thought it was a good twist, but it turned out it wasn't the case.

The problem with using the MMO formula (specially the WoW formula) is that every great character eventually goes rogue/crazy and becomes a raid boss.

It happened to Darth Malgus (another character with good potential) and they did it to Revan too. I still think that the personal class stories from level 1-50 were pretty good and people that played Kotor 1 and 2 should give them a shot.

Absolutely agree with the author of this thread.
Revan is a symbol of a hard concious choice and sacrifice, and the power of balance.
Chris Avellone envisioned Revan as "anti-Palpatine", but "writers" of SWTOR made him the opposite - a brainless pawn.
Shadow of Revan worsened situation, to the point of no repair. And no KotFE will help now (especially when they are doing the same thing with Vitiate)..
*sigh*
I hope SWTOR dies (despite I love many features of tis game), and after 10 years Kotor trilogy will be remade. A new hope.

The Revan I played would never do that.he stayed with bastilla and his kid.what these ppl thought and made these things I dnt know..remember on sand ppl territory the story teller said its blasphemy even to question or add even a word to history..revan turned away from the dark side and he even tried to make malak turn to the lightside.kotor 2 and tor has a false fail and fake story.

Anyone who has played the two KoToR games knows just how badly bioware butchered Revan's ending. If you have played KoToR and do not yet know of his ending in SWTOR then honestly do not even bother playing the game or finding out. It is ridiculous and just genuinely bad storytelling. Honestly I wish that Obsidian would just finish off the KoToR triology and give Revan and all the characters a good ending which actually makes sense.

I myself and probably most other people will never accept the SWTOR ending and if Obsidian could make a KoToR 3 then we can have a proper resolution to the story. Until then I am going to join all the other KoToR fans in just pretending that the book and TOR games never happened because they are just a blantant money grabbing scheme, which involves unneccesarily forcing Revan into the story when it just did not need to happen.

I don't understand how they could write an ending where Revan is freed from being captured the first time and then decides to go and get captured again without even trying to see Bastila or let alone his new born son. Then he spends the next three centuries suspended in stasis, while Bastila decides to just live her days out and not even go looking for him? Its a joke of an ending and just isn't true because bioware's bull crap ending to a character who is not even related to them will just never really mean anything. We just need Obsidian to finish the KoToR triology to well and truly finish off Revan's awesome story, with meaningful and logical storytelling just like in both KoToR 1 and 2.
