Senator Cybus
Hi - so I backed PoE at the 'design an NPC' level and I'm currently filling in the corresponding survey. Obviously, I want to get this done ASAP (today, realistically), but I'm having a little trouble working out which options to pick to get as close to the character I want as possible. Basically, the character is one I played in another CRPG (mentioning no brand names or other copyrighted details), and I liked the idea of kind of bringing 'em over. Trouble being, I don't think PoE uses the same kind of multi-classing that game did, and doesn't have the 'innate power, magic granted by bloodline' type of mage I have in mind. Essentially what I'm looking to create is this: the character is primarily a spellcaster, but also a decent melee fighter, specialising in paired daggers. Stronger and more durable than you'd expect, with skin that's unnaturally tough and has a bit of a sheen to it. And with a cat for a familiar (ideally a big cat, if possible). I'm thinking Wizard, for the spells and familiar, with the basic race of human but with the Godlike template to allow for extra physical abilities. Does this sound okay? If so, what type of Godlike do I choose? What kinds of abilities/bonuses does each type have and do they have to have a more extreme physical manifestation of their power, or is slightly shiny skin and a tatoo okay? Any help or advice much appreciated!
Nonek
Godlike race and Cipher class sounds like what you're looking for, they're the Spellswords of Poe. Edit: Check out their update for yourself Mr Cybus: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/64452-update-65-ciphers/ Edited January 17, 2014 by Nonek Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot! IndiraLightfoot
A godlike with the element of earth manifested seems to fit your NPC, especially with that big cat and the tough sheeny skin (Obsidian?). Senator Cybus
I was under the impression that Ciphers were more sort of (to use a term from another game) psionicists, except connecting with other people's souls rather than their minds, and more about buffing/de-buffing those around them? I'm more in the market for a spell-slinger who can chuck some fireballs around, then finsh you off with some nifty knife work.

Senator Cybus
Oh hey, thank you! You're helping to narrow down the options to what I need.
IndiraLightfoot
I'm more in the market for a spell-slinger who can chuck some fireballs around, then finsh you off with some nifty knife work. PE will definitely allow for that kind of variety when it comes to wizards. And as for chucking fire balls around, it seems perfect for a fire specialist. No need, I reckon, to go for a godlike based on the element of fire. *** "The words of someone who feels ever more the ent among saplings when playing CRPGs" ***

No need, I reckon, to go for a godlike based on the element of fire. Ah, so I can be a Wizard and still be highly proficient in melee combat? Cool. I'm intrigued by the idea of a fire specialist: would such a Wizard have only fire-based spells, or more powerful fire-based spells, or limited access to non-fire spells? I would like a bit of variety in what she can cast (maybe a few self-buffs, the odd illusion, etc). I was thinking Godlike more for the bonus to strength and durability, if possible. Is this an option? edit: Just realised that you'd already recommended earth element Godlike. Thanks! IndiraLightfoot
I have too little info on the systems to answer that, but IIRC, they said you could always PM Adler or perhaps Josh, and they will give you bits of info as needed. *** "The words of someone who feels ever more the ent among saplings when playing CRPGs" ***

ddillon
Big cat familiar, fire AoE, buffs, decent melee but capable spellcasting... Druid is the impression that I get from your posts, so long as PE doesn't have idiotic D&D-style restrictions on bladed weapons.

It doesn't. Should we not start with some Ipelagos, or at least some Greater Ipelagos, before tackling a named Arch Ipelago? 6_u
Monte Carlo
Yeah, why not go for a druid? I bet there won't be many druid NPCs whereas Ciphers are already madly popular on the forums.
