Keyrock Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Thunder SMOKED the Rockets tonight. Great nights for Jeremy Lamb and Reggie Jackson, and another monster game for Durant (33 points, 13 rebounds). The Thunder shot 57% as a team. Of course the fact that the Rockets don't play defense might have something to do with that. RFK Jr 2024 "Any organization created out of fear must create fear to survive." - Bill Hicks
kgambit Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) He just doesn't like basketball. Probably forced into it because he was big, strong, coordinated/athletic. Still, he made a good living out of it. He'll like it again if he's traded to Miami. Isn't Miami already doing a reclamation project on Greg Oden? Not sure that Bynum is a fit there or if he even really wants to play. Cavaliers believe Bynum has been a "disruptive" presence within the team and have lost hope the partnership can be salvaged, sources said. Bynum often expressed a lack of desire to play and practice and was convinced by the Cavaliers not to quit previously, sources said. Other teams that met with Bynum during his free agency last offseason were concerned about his desire to play and commitment to continue the rehab needed for him to play in the NBA after repeated knee problems, sources said. Volourn Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Suspicious story, but if true, the Cavs owe him an apology and he should sue them for wrongful dismissal and trashing his rep. Yeah, he had sex with someone's wife. That has nothing to do with his job. But, this seems less likely than he 'lost his mjo/love for bNBA basketball' considering what he's gone through the last few seasons. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
Leferd Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Well he was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. This would count, if true. Cavs don't owe him an apology at all. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports was the one who broke the "lost love of playing basketball" story, citing several sources. Wojo has been pretty reliable with his sources over the years. Look, if he doesn't want to commit the rest of his playing window to being a professional basketball player, that's fine -let him walk and find his bliss. 2 "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle

kgambit Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) Yes, they do. If anything, he is the scapegoat for the Cavs failing to live up to ridiculous expectations. No they don't - read the standard NBA contract. As for "expectations", I don't recall any reasonable preseason forecast that had the Cavs winning the NBA championship or very few folks that even projected them making the playoffs. And those few positive predictions for the Cavs success depended on Bynum successfully returning to his '11-'12 form which obviously has not happened.. As for being a scapegoat, #1 pick overall Anthony Bennett, showed up at the Cavaliers' camp overweight, out of shape and suffering from sleep apnea and would like to discuss the scapegoat claim with you. Bennett has been so dreadful that 20+ games into his first year he's being looked at as possibly the worst overall #1 pick in the last 20 years. Bennett is averaging 2.2 points and two rebounds on 27.7 percent shooting in 20 games this season. The one prediction I do remember was ironically this one: Cavaliers center Andrew Bynum will play fewer than 600 minutes. http://nba.si.com/2013/10/28/nba-predictions-jeremy-lin-pau-gasol-jimmer-fredette-kevin-durant/ Edited December 31, 2013 by kgambit

kgambit Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 In fairness before he ever played an NBA game, Greg Oden had season-ending microfracture surgery on his right knee. Since then it's not been an issue of whether he could be a dominant center but if he could ever stay healthy enough with his knee issues. When he has been healthy he has flashed signs of being the dominant big man that Portland thought they were drafting.

That doesn't change that he's played all of 80 games in his entire career and the guy drafted after him is the best scorer in basketball, without a shadow of a doubt the second best player in the entire NBA, and a guy who may well go down as one of the 15 or 20 best players of all time. I didn't think you were knocking Oden's commitment at all. All reports out of Miami are that Oden is working exceptionally hard on rehab. Being drafted ahead of Durant certainly isn't a plus. Bennett appears to be far more of a fail based on talent, and not injuries. No one has doubted Oden's talent or dominance when he is healthy - the problem is that his knees (at least so far) have just been train wrecks. Just a different perspective. 1

Yeah, Oden is a draft bust because his body won't let him play, not because he isn't trying. Bennett just looks lost and unmotivated, which is worse in a lot of ways (he's still very young and could turn it around, though). The fact that Oden was picked in front of the second coming of Larry Bird (Small forward, scoring machine, deadly accurate shooter form absolutely anywhere on the court, well above average ball handler, above average defender, high basketball IQ, 50-40-90 club member) magnifies the disappointment (again, not for lack of him trying) that he has become. Fun fact: 50-40-90 Club Members - The Full List: Larry Bird, Reggie Miller, Steve Nash, Mark Price, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Durant. Keyrock Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thunder lost their second straight without #FullSquad. Second game in a row they've blown 4th quarter leads. Not a huge deal though, they will go through growing pains with the young guys stepping in in Russ' absence. I'm happy Scotty Brooks is continuing to give them plenty of minutes and Durant keeps feeding them the ball rather than just trying to do everything himself.
