TreverJohansen Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Hey guys just wanted to shoot an update since i posted on the fourm below about different concept art ideas for dragons i decided to sketch this up im going to continure rendering this out and taking ideas to for things to add, but let it be known i cant add every idea soo shoot some ideas youd like to see. I went with a toad like dragon old and wise I am currently thinking of adding moss on him maybe some trees on his back to show hes been there since acient times. Note the stuff in the back is cliff and a water fall idea im just jotting down quickly still have to add bush and other foilage.
VladWorks Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 (edited) Not a bad sketch dude ...im all for differentiating dragons, and I would like to hear from the development team on theire take about what changes do they plan for the whole overused dragons in d&d consept games. Agremont Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 (edited) Nice sketch Trever. The moss seems like a good way of making him(?) look ancient, although it would perhaps suit a tortoise dragon a bit more seeing how slow tortoises are. It would be cool if it had one of those blow-upable (is that even a word?) chins. Edited May 11, 2013 by Agremont
TreverJohansen Posted May 11, 2013 Author Posted May 11, 2013 i feel ya on the chin i still have to add some things or brain storm but he IS missing somthing or a few things, for some reason i almost think of balbasaur lol or somthing haha i unno why.
AGX-17 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) That's not exactly a new concept. I've seen and played many games with non-standard dragon designs. Like or not, it seems to be more prevalent in Japanese games. Quickfire, recent example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIqgfTBXe_o Edited May 14, 2013 by AGX-17
sarkthas Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I like the sketch, but rather than Dragons I would prefer if they just went with their own creations of ancient creatures of vast power. I mean there are so many mythical creatures you can draw inspiration from. This is not to say I wouldn't enjoy dragons, it's just a tired cliche. Not every fantasy setting needs it.
JFSOCC Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Asian dragons are pretty awesome too. Remember: Argue the point, not the person. Remain polite and constructive. Friendly forums have friendly debate. There's no shame in being wrong. If you don't have something to add, don't post for the sake of it. And don't be afraid to post thoughts you are uncertain about, that's what discussion is for.---Pet threads, everyone has them. I love imagining Gods, Monsters, Factions and Weapons.

Dragons are a trope. The cliche, if any, lies in their stereotypical use. A creative writer can make just about any trope interesting, while a poor writer can turn the most creative idea into something trite. Given suitable character development, a decent plot line, and proper scene setting, then a dragon should prove to be engaging story element. annath Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Thats a neat sketch. I'm fan of nonstandard designs. Best to have a mix of classic and new designs, too much of either can be bland or unwieldy. Link the flames, Chosen Undead! Hold steady against the Dark!
