Cutlock
Has anybdoy heard this new band? I know some of you guys undoubtedly have, considering that their song Little Talks has over two millions views or about that. I heard Little Talks and was almost instantaneously inspired to make a montage of sorts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgy3adx_DGc&feature=plcp&context=C47371e3VDvjVQa1PpcFOd59pPaesWKZirJ0BD2zArKFpvEmHL0LA= I heard Dirty Paws, I was not that inspired by it though, it was okay. But what are your guys thoughts on the band? Whats your favorite song by them?
Orogun01
We already have a thread dedicated to music. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Walsingham
So many goddamn live musicians available they're going hungry, and these funtwits use synth? Weak. [/grumpyoldman] "It wasn't lies. Gorth
Yeah, once upon a time, synthesizers were something that added to the music. Then it became all synthetic and nobody knew how to make music. These days, even the darn voices are computer generated and actual singers are hard to come by. [/grumpyoldman2] “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Orogun, if you agree with them, as in Gorth and Walsingham, is it music? No, no, no, I'm joking you. But, come on, the song is pretty good, loophole in your post Orogun, you have a thread devoted to music, not a thread devoted to songs, or a thread devoted to a band, or a thread devoted to a song. Music in its entirity can encompass a lot of things, or one thing.
Orogun01
I actually catch them live on the Morning Buzz some time ago, I think it was right before the release of this album. For Wals and Gorth, it was an acoustic version of this song and I actually preferred it over this rendition. Although I will say that I still dislike the term "indie" as a music genre, specially when it's nothing more than the fusion of folk, bluegrass and some Celt influences served with a modern twist. [/grumpyoldman3] I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you. I would say the term 'indie' is a bad term precisely because everybody has a different definition of what it means. I don't really agree with your definition. Which supports my reasoning. Hah! Yeah, once upon a time, synthesizers were something that added to the music. Then it became all synthetic and nobody knew how to make music. These days, even the darn voices are computer generated and actual singers are hard to come by. [/grumpyoldman2] Oh rubbish. Have you BEEN outside? It's hard for me to get around Canberra without stubbing my toe on a high-quality live musician (highly doubt Melbourne or Sydney are any different). And most of the time they are an engineer or chemist or economics or law student or something, or a public servant, or whatever - the point is you wouldn't expect them to beat out the awesome tunes they do. But they're good either way. Maybe it's a generational thing, but yeah as somebody who doesn't practice an instrument I'm leaning towards being the odd one out among my various peer groups. Hmm. Maybe you meant it's rare to find actual musicians in music these days. But again, I would point to the Triple J Hottest 100 of any recent year as evidence against such a claim. Sure, there's plenty of synth, but there's plenty that isn't. And hey, at least it's not rap, right?
Humodour
While we're suggesting amazing bands, I highly recommend everyone listens to the Arcade Fire's album The Suburbs. It's a highly thematic album and each song feeds into the next, so while they're artworks on their own, you get something extra out of it by listening to the album from start to finish. And hey, at least it's not rap, right? Good point, nothing is so bad it couldn't be worse I live in suburbia and commute to the commercial district, so I don't spend much time in the (Brisbane) cbd area. I stopped listening to street musicians and buskers when they started bringing ghetto blasters, sitting and miming a bit to whatever noise is blasting out through the speakers. Britney Spears has nothing on those guys when it comes to faking it in front on an audience. I've got a brother who spent a decade and a half playing music, from drums over guitars to saxophone, so I've got the general idea what's involved in playing without playback. Not to mention having seen more bands live than can be counted and several pairs of hands. If you take the crutches and rollators away from the majority of the "performers", how good are they really? Not saying nobody has any actual skill, but they drown in the masses of producer created designer bands aimed at specific markets. The people hired are but the faces and wriggling bodies used to market a product. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Hurlshort
They should arrange some sort of talent finding competition, where people compete using only their vocals to win over the audience. It probably wouldn't be very popular though.

Walsingham
Sorry. I didn't mean to diss the song, Cutlock. Actually it's OK. But my point was that it could have been better with just a bit more effort than this pareto bull****. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Tigranes
I know little about music, have my own tastes, and have hardly kept up with Anglophone music scenes in the last decade. So I don't know whether my connections are valid. But I listened to the song and it reminds of people like the New Pornographers, Wilco, etc - fun and upbeat, but boring after a couple of listens. But then, music is all about learning to listen to a particular style and enjoy it, and I haven't given this stuff that time. I may never, but point stands. (Which is exactly where I am with Arcade Fire. Some of their stuff seemed very turgid, I remember. I'll try The Suburbs.) The official music video is cute, though.
