Chill Penguin
Anyone here watch The X-Files? I've been watching the hell out of that show. In less than a month I watched seasons 1-7 and the first movie, and I'm working on season 8 now. Fantastic show, a lot better than what's on TV nowadays (Jersey Shore) in my opinion. So, anyone else here like it?
Volourn
Tried watching it. Was one of the most overrated, and boring sci fi shows ever created. The fact you felt the need to compared to JS says everything that needs to be said about XFiles which its crappy writing, horrific acting, and garbage everyhting. I'd rather compare it to Fringe which is amde by the same guy and has been accused of 'copying' X-Files except in Fringe's case it does everything better. better acting (espicially better acting), better writing, better archs, better overall story, just plain better. L0L Jersey Shore L0L To answer "So, anyone else here like it?" No. Hell to the no. Edited February 20, 2011 by Volourn DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250. Wrath of Dagon
I liked the episodes which had nothing to do with the main alien conspiracy story arc. Those ones are pretty meh and annoyingly circular. "Moral indignation is a standard strategy for endowing the idiot with dignity." However, declaring in the name of everyone, that no one likes the X-files on the forums is fairly roofles worthy. Slowtrain
I used to love the X FIles when they were first on. Seasons 1-4 were some of the best TV ever, imo. Season 5 and later went downhill pretty fast, LAst couple seasons were pretty bad at times. Haven't watched them in a long time, though I do have seasons 1-4 on dvd, so I don't know how well they've aged. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that. Pidesco
I watched the first two seasons a couple of years ago, and I have to say it hasn't aged very well. The only thing in it that still impressed me was Gillian Anderson's acting. She really is a great actress. Even in the pilot, which was, for the most part, horribly acted, she did a very fine job. I always thought Duchovny did a good job as well for the most part. His enthusiasm for things seemed to wane after season 4 or so, probably due to his issues with Chris Carter, but I thought he was pretty good for the first four seasons. I thought he did a great job when I watched it originally. Just not so much when I rewatched it recently. He's much better in Californication, for example. However, that's not to say he was bad. He certainly grew into the character as the show progressed. In the pilot he was awful, though. Nepenthe
I own the series on DVD and the movies on blu-ray. I watched the poo out of it back in ~high school/early uni, haven't caught any episodes in while. Probably need to. You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? GreasyDogMeat
I was obsessed with the show back in the 90s. Unfortunately, after Season 5 the show became really bad. My adoration turned to hate and the recent X-Files movie confirmed it. This might be a bit spoilerish but you come to find Carter and the other writers had absolutely no clue where the show was going and just made crap up as it went along. The mythology gave this sense that it was building towards some great reveal. Just a huge let down. Some highlights of how stupid the show became in the later seasons: -A bunch of hillbillys worship a giant parasitic slug as the second coming of Christ. -A dwarf Indian on a wheel cart is invisible and he crawls up people's asses to control them. No I'm not making this up. Early seasons were 5-6 fantastic great episodes, then maybe 1 meh episode then 5-6 great etc. By the last seasons it was 10 episodes of crap and one decent episode. Maybe the move from Vancouver to LA (coincidentaly right after season 5) fried the writers brains in the LA heat. Fringe has been a much better show so far, as it seems like the writers actually have a plan. That said, without the X-Files there would be no Fringe or many other decent sci-fi shows. Wrath of Dagon
Does Fringe have a lot of gross out stuff? And what channel is it on? "Moral indignation is a standard strategy for endowing the idiot with dignity." Marshall McLuhan
GreasyDogMeat
Does Fringe have a lot of gross out stuff? And what channel is it on? Are you kidding? I'm shocked they can show most of the stuff they show on it. Fringe is directly influenced by X-Files. It has main story episodes and monster of the week episodes, likable characters and alternate universes. Fringe is on it's 3rd season now and while it was a bit slow to get started the show has improved every season. It shows on Fox. You can catch the latest episodes on Hulu, or the above linked main site. Not sure where you would catch the early episodes besides getting the DVD set. Orogun01
I watched the **** out of that show and right before bed too. I used to get the coolest dreams afterward, loved every second of it and the chemistry that David and Gillian had was wonderful. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.

Yep. Exactly. And the movie between seasons 4 and 5 really put an end to the mythology since Carter seemed unable to take it any further while keeping it interesting. The mythology became increasing less compelling and more meandering. In a sense, it all happened again with the new BSG. ROn Moore and the writers went through the whole "They have a plan" thing and it turned out no one had any clue what the hell was going on. Too bad, really. Meshugger
I remember when X-Files started to air on TV back in the early 90's. It was simply nothing like it. Practically everyone saw it, me included. I lost interest though sometime during highschool when the show seemed to go nowhere. But those first 3-4 years were awesome. Maybe i have to buy the blu-ray collection sometime. bigcrazewolf
I love The X-Files, pretty good show. Not any really good Sci-Fi shows on the TV today, would be nice if one of the pay channels did one though, HBO, Showtime shows are always way better than anything on TV.
