Hurlshort Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Why would you waste your time arguing over the use of the term copyright infringement instead of theft then?
Guest Slinky Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Why would you waste your time arguing over the use of the term copyright infringement instead of theft then? For the sake of arguing? Haven't you learned anything in here
Mamoulian War Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 (edited) Why would you waste your time arguing over the use of the term copyright infringement instead of theft then? I can ask you the sam but the opposite: Why would you waste your time arguing over the use of the term theft instead of the proper name copyright infringement then? when i was a child I was always learned by my parents, to name the things with their proper name, and not to pull them out of my ass, whenever i did lied or pulled some stuff out of my ass which was very different from the truth, i got a spanked... Purkake Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Wow, I'm a psychic: This will end well... More like you can remember the past...so...historian? Stop stealing my thunder! @Hurlshot: Probably because of Nightshape's rant.
Slowtrain Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 meh. I really think that the entire concept of DRM = anti-piracy is pretty outdated. ANd was probably never really true to begin with. Misdirection at best. DRM is about controlling and leveraging the game asset, and its aimed mostly at legitimate paying customers, not pirates. If it has the added benefit of making a game harder to pirate that's great, but its not the main reason. @purk: I'm the only one with the next-gen hate going. Credit where credit is due please. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
Mikhailian Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I got lemon lime. If you give me some lemons I'll make some kamikazes. Arguing about the nature of theft in a digital construct while drunk sounds like a noble enough endeaver. Besides, I'm snowed in and getting angsty. But for all of us, there will come a point where it does matter, and it's gonna be like having a miniature suit-head shoving sticks up your butt all the time. - Tigranes

Hurlshort Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 These are the quotes that turned this into a piracy discussion and led to my response: Remind me again of the advantages of being a law-abiding citizen? To Ubisoft I can only say: Pirate Flag pic But then again, there are benefits to piracy... *piracy helps stop global warming pic* So neither Nightshape or I brought up piracy, just to clarify.

Purkake Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 So you're a follower of the Valve philosophy?
Hurlshort Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Just behead me, because i am pure evil customer, who wants to control goods which he purchased... what a blasphemy... I'm all for getting rid of DRM, particularly the kind that wants you online all the time. I think you are hurting your argument by arguing over the semantics of piracy.
Raithe Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 How about we shelve the piracy and concentrate on the other things.. Aka, Do you really want all games you buy from now on to end up using the same type of system where you have to be online to play it. Even if you just want to play a single-player game.. If you have a crappy net connection (which a lot of people still do) , if something happens (like I suffered recently) and you end up with no phone-lines or internet for a week because of weather damage... "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Purkake Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I don't think what we want matter all that much, "we" are a small minority and the majority don't care either way.
Hurlshort Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I don't think what we want matter all that much, "we" are a small minority and the majority don't care either way. I'd say on most DRM measures, yes, but being online all the time can be an issue for a much larger group than a disk check, or invasive software, or even an initial online activation. For example, my PS3 has a spotty connection. It's too far from the router. If I could never play games unless I had a connection, it would be a worthless device. As is, it usually spends a minute trying to connect and then tells me certain services are not available, but the game itself is fine.
Purkake Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Then you need to get the much larger group to take notice and not buy the game, because that's the only way anything is going to change.
