The Last Remnant was awesome. There are few RPGs with a story that actually span through epochs, which Last Remnant happen to do. I think i spend something of 100+ hours on that game.

Beware, sidequests (including separate towns and continents) make up for 70% of the game.

So i just picked this game up on steam and I have a question. I don't have a x box game pad and for some inane reason all the instructions for some reason assume I do. Is there a way to get the game to change the instructions and show me what keyboard buttons to press or does it want to try to force me to buy a wired x box 360 controller to actually know what I am doing?

This is getting quite bothersome me hitting random buttons on the keyboard trying to figure out the equivalents to what they want me to do.

I'm almost positive that there is some way to get it to show the right keys. I know that when I plugged in my Logitech gamepad it would come up with the proper button numbers and little grey circles instead of the colourful xbox prompts.

A quick search says that there should be an option in the settings menu. Check under controller settings for key signal display. Change that to keyboard.

You can change the ingame prompts to the assigned keyboard keys or, apparently, whatever device you want. It correctly detected my XFX gamepad, for example. You can also change all the key settings and there are 3 or 4 key presets to choose from. This is no shoddy console port.

In other words, check the settings menu before playing!

Edit: I also declare my post to be more awesome than Deraldin's post, Salamando not withstanding.

Thank you, I realize i am a silly person who figured that a PC game would default on you know, mouse and keyboard settings when installed. I went to the settings area and fixed it.

I think the obsession with the 360 gamepad is a Games for Windows thing.

Yep: All references to common controller triggers and buttons must use the Xbox 360 names.

Wow i suck at this game, i am at the beginning, I just got my first group together a general joined me, and i went to a cave to rescue some women. I fought my way past some generic enemies no problem, i faced the gang there and they wiped me out so fast. I mean it wasn't even close, their three groups took me down in like 2 maybe 3 rounds. Sheesh!

I can't seem to recall whether I beat that battle by focusing on the minions first or on the boss, but it's one of the two. What's your army composition? Is it just Rush and Blocter? I can't believe I have forgotten how the game starts. I must have replayed the tutorial quests three or four times.

main guy, fish general, generic fish guy and a human,

the enemy is their leader fish guy, and two squads of two humans.

Do enemies respawn? I mean can i beat up generic enemies then leave and come back and fight more people? I suppose i might do better if I get more money so i could buy better equipment that might help. But they just overwhelmed me, maybe I just am not used to the combat system yet, i will try again tonight and see if i can last a bit longer. Didn't expect such a whipping so soon into the game

Ok, focus on the weaker human units first, and attack one unit at a time. Use your strongest attacks. Reduce their numbers as quickly as possible.

Yes, you can always leave and come back to grind a bit, but that battle should be beatable without any grinding.

alright, I will give that a shot, I wasn't able to do anything last night cause a friend called and he doesn't know how to end a conversation so by the time I got him off the phone I had to go to sleep. The game seems fun but I do see how people say that the battle system takes some getting used to.
