Actually Spanish vessels (learning from past mistakes, it seems) are sailing with embarked private security personnel armed with large-caliber MGs since last week.

IMO recommendations are that ships do not resist pirates or hijackers beyond making course and speed alterations.

The best thing the world could do for Africa is to stop giving them aid. It doesn't seem to aid the problem, more that it just kinda prolongs it.

Probably I can see how a Somali, forced to choose between starvation and piracy on the high seas, would obviously choose piracy--in fact I'm pretty sure I'd do the same. I'm sympathetic to the plight and would be right up until I became one of their victims in which case I'd say exterminate the brutes like every good hypocrite.

You probably have Purkake, but the Somalis probably don't.

I'm sure organizing and doing honest work is impossible.

I have to agree with LOF on that last point, actually. We have not seen the end of socialism as a school of thought, even if it may never re-emerge in the Bolshevik form.
