I'm not blamming sega because the recession. I'm blamming them because their choices.

I find the dumbest thing not focusing on one game like the Rpg or A:CM, that's called strategy. Instead of that Sega release AVP3 (wow what a recession) and don't tell me that it's because AVP sells more because there is no other FPS or Rpg about Aliens, nobody knows how the sells will work.

In next PC Gamer will be something about Aliens vs Preadtor 3 so let

i just hope the pc mag dosnt just say "AvP 3 is in the making" and thats it. i hope its an actuall article with screens and info about the game. Waiting in this darkness for these Alien games really sucks.

I'm actually totally not interested in AvP3, knowing that Rebellion sucks.... but perhaps we get additional news about the status of the other two games.

i'm down for AvP 3 if its a good game, but yea i'd much rather have ACM and A C.

The first AvP was brilliant.

The first AvP1 ws heavely flawed, and had some crappy level design. But it was fun nonetheless, and it was the only good game that Rebellion ever made.

If its true, it only makes you wonder what will happend to the relationship between Sega and Obsidian, or the Western's perspective on Sega itself for making such move. Can pretty much presume that Obsidian has all the right to feel upset to see their work taken away from them to change hands.

I think Aliens CM being taken away from Gearbox is very likely right now, Gearbox and Sega have fallen out over A:CM, If I was to hazzard a guess I would say A:CM will be moved to Rebellion or Monolith. As for the RPG taken from Obsidian? I think thats allot less likely.

Imagine the game that was initially made with a Western RPG mindset and then to be recreated or changed to fit the Japanese RPG type of game(Assuming the game is moved into Sega's in-house dev in Japan) is a situation that pretty much mind-boggles me. Or have it continued development with Sega's in-house responsible for making Iron Man and Golden Axe: Beast Rider, though it will be a disappointing scenario considering the outcome of the two games mentioned.

Both of these suggestions are very very unlikely, Sega America and Sega Japan act as separate buisnesses, I don't think SoA could move the development to Sega Japan even if they wanted too and I really don't think they would give a game like an Aliens RPG to 'Secret Level'.

I can only wonder if there is a way for Obsidian to be able to compromise with Sega by means of working with a lesser budget with the same given timespan. Either way, its already March and there is yet a public announcement from Sega regarding of the Aliens RPG title, so there is the possibility as we know it that they are waiting for Alpha Protocol's sales performance before making any concrete decisions.

In short: Everyone, buy Alpha Protocol immediately upon its release. If the sales are good and Sega still maintains the stupid decision of changing developer's hands for the Aliens game, we can pretty have much have rights to bitch and whine openly then.

Buying AP probably wouldnt hurt but I don't think it will have any direct effect on Aliens RPG, I think Sega of America are probably trying to work out how much they can afford to spend on these Aliens games before they continue development given the recession.

Honestly I think you can stop even thinking about the Aliens RPG until 2010 when the recession subsides.

Btw, the rumors are true.

Sega has their motivations. You can't really tell what their game plan is all the time, but from my perspective, if you pick up the aliens franchise, might as well use it.

Btw, I just found out what Obsidian might be working on next. Lets just say they're definitely following around, looking like other unbloodied that work on rpgs.

Nothing confirmed yet though, at least not officially.

Btw, no I don't have a job, but I haven't applied to any since the end of December.

as long as they don't get rid of the aliens fps game by gearbox, then i'll still be happy.

I'm pretty sure they did from what my sources tell me.

The game wasn't shaping up last time I saw it anyways. But that was awhile ago.

Josh "ColdKodiak" Anderson was a junior artist on the Aliens RPG who was laid off in December 2008. Take his posts with a pinch of salt.

'cuse me lousy English. but what the heck does this statement means?

Anyway, finally grown from denial to acceptance of the demise of the Aliens RPG. But Sega's move still leaves me dumbfounded.

A pinch? You mean a ton.

I'm going to pretend to believe this game is still on until either Sega or Obsidian confirms that it's dead.

Hey now, my mother is huge and don't you forget it. The drunk can't even get off the couch to make herself a vodka drenched sandwich. Octopus suck.

1. The 'recession' is getting blamed for a lot of layoffs. Many strike me as implausible and for the sake of company convenience. See point 2.

2. Games sales are up this last year, bucking the trend because *fanfare* they are fantastic cheap entertainment when you consider the hours per buck, and their immersive escapist value. An RPG is expensive to produce but exactly what people are looking for, IMO.

3. Obsidian should still retain the IPR to things like engine and level design, dialogue etc. I see virtually no reason why it could not be recycled with some tweaks. Hell, it might even be easier since it would allow free rein to the inventiveness of our boys at Obsidian.

4. Gearbox are not fools. I had the pleasure of a meeting with their lead chaps two years ago and they were perfectly sane and rational.

Found interesting tibit on the GDC'09 webpage.

I'd assume that they need to write something like that until SEGA officially cancels the Aliens RPG. It would be a dead giveaway otherwise.

It's already been a dead giveaway that nobody is working on Aliens right now. The job listings speak to that. They could just as easily not mention it.
