July 26, 200817 yr So, since Sega is publishing both games, and since Gearbox is supposed to be releasing in the winter, I believe (though nothing at E3, I think), how much contact does Obsidian have with Gearbox, or with Sega about the Gearbox title? Clearly they have to make sure that they aren't going to do the exact same plot, though maybe that's being done through Sega with no communication with Gearbox. Another thing of interest is that both games are taking place between the 1st and 3rd movies. But is this game going to be related to the Gearbox game in any way besides being in the Aliens universe? Are there going to be characters from the Gearbox game (which looks to be a pretty sweet squad-based deal from the limited information I've seen) that will appear in Obsidian's version? Is this game going to look anything like the Gearbox game? Will there some sort of marketing connection besides just the Aliens universe to get all of the gamers who liked the Gearbox game to play the Obsidian game? If the Gearbox version bombs, is there a chance that Sega will overreact and screw over Obsidian in some way? I'm honestly just really interested in Sega's decision to announce 2 Aliens games at the same time. I can't imagine what they'll be thinking if Gearbox makes a solid game that ends up a financial loss. I mean, I can see this huge Halo craze going on right now with as many as 3 games in the universe being developed at once. But is Aliens big enough among gamers to do this?
July 26, 200817 yr Do we have confirmation that the Aliens RPG is going to take place between the first and third films? I don't expect that the games will look alike, Aliens FPS is using UE3(?) whereas Aliens RPG is using a new from-scratch engine. In addition, given that Aliens RPG is confirmed as squad-based it likely will have vastly different UIs, because squad-based games are very rarely first-person, and require a number of controls whereas the Aliens FPS is using a minimal / nonexistent HUD. I think it's been said before that assets are being shared between the studios, probably conceptual stuff, but who knows how the two will exist in relation to one another. I think it's been said before that assets are being shared between the studios, probably conceptual stuff, but who knows how the two will exist in relation to one another. The Gearbox game is squad-based, with 4 members, and co-op. And it's going to allow switching between squad members, perhaps at will. As for the time it takes place, this is from Anthony Davis on the Codex: I know people are skeptical of movie licensing in games, but this isn't the Aliens Movie Game. It is an RPG set in the Aliens Universe that happens to chronologically take place after Aliens and before Aliens 3. From the info on the Wikipedia page, the Gearbox game doesn't really sound at all like a typical shooter. I mean, it sounds more like a squad-based survival horror game without a big focus on the actual combat. Looks pretty good, really.
July 27, 200817 yr We have coordinated our storylines and there are a few references between the two plots (including characters). We have also shared a few art assets when prudent. twitter tyme
July 27, 200817 yr So does that mean you've collaborated with the BSG scribes they've snagged for their game? Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
July 27, 200817 yr No. Pretty much all of our coordination was done at a high level (major plot and character points) before they were involved. twitter tyme
July 27, 200817 yr Author Sounds excellent. I hope the Gearbox game comes out on time, that I can enjoy it, and that it does well so that Sega doesn't freak out about releasing another Aliens game.
July 29, 200817 yr Here is a video which primarily talks about Aliens: Colonial Marines, but further on a question is posed regarding the Aliens RPG http://kotaku.com/5028168/e308-simon-jeffe...mething-special Sounds awesome that all involved seemed psyched about the Aliens projects.
July 29, 200817 yr Please don't put any genitalia on the tentacles like in the Gearbox game, it's disgusting. Anyway, I've lost all respect for Gearbox lately after the way they butchered Brothers in Arms, I mean Gears in Arms. July 29, 200817 yr It's not really surprising. Most Giger art can essentially be broken down into various forms of genitalia and fetuses. Take another look at the Aliens' heads if you haven't lately. twitter tyme

July 29, 200817 yr http://ve3d.ign.com/images/22837/PC/Aliens-Colonial-Marines oh, that pic I nicknamed facehuggers with some nasty name because of that... too bad I can't remember it. And Giger's art = penises with odd, jangged surface and few spikes He takes sexual "motifs" and perverses them to grotesque visuals. They really work btw but you disappoint me, I thought developer had created some sort of hentai monster for the game Edited July 29, 200817 yr by Xard How can it be a no ob build. July 29, 200817 yr Oh, I didn't know about Giger, it does make sense now. I think I only saw the first movie completely, and don't recall anything being that obvious. "Moral indignation is a standard strategy for endowing the idiot with dignity." Marshall McLuhan
