January 15, 200818 yr This game better have Mech suits! Mechs make everything awsome by default. Just look at the original Starship Troopers game or Silent Storm (even if they were unbalanced). (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
January 16, 200818 yr Personally, I think its best Obsidian's priority is to succeed in capturing the mood and essense of what makes the game an 'Aliens' game first before attempting to introduce elements that might instigate nerd rage for being too radical. Hence why Bioware's KOTOR was successful, simply by managing to capture the essense of a typical Star Wars movie. KOTOR2 follows on by exploring new stuffs and concepts in the Star Wars universe. I doubt if KOTOR2 is released as the first game, it will be widely accepted by the Star Wars fanbase due to throwing stuffs they cannot recognise into their face. But it works as a second game because I think its safe to say most are already used to the setting established by KOTOR1. So I would suggest Obsidian to play the safe card game for Aliens also, then explore new stuffs in the sequel. Edited January 16, 200818 yr by Zoma
January 16, 200818 yr Author That is a fair point, but even ignoring the gameplay implications, Mech suits CAN be considered 'official' and first-hand material, having featured in the climax of Aliens. Granted, that was just a utility model and not one of the millitary versions which exist within the lore, but on this basis the thought has no doubt crossed the mind of someone at Obs. From the Sega press release: The role playing game will build upon the distinctive look and feel of the original films while utilizing next-generation technology to create an entirely different and unique Alien experience.

January 16, 200818 yr Mech suits aren't that much far from the lifters Ripley used in Aliens. Give it some armor and a weapon or two and then you go. However I don't think it would be much use against a half dozen agile xenomorph drones. The Queen is a different issue. However I don't think it would be much use against a half dozen agile xenomorph drones. The Queen is a different issue. There is already one in AvP2 in the final stage playing as a marine. IMO I felt it was implemented in a cheesy manner and simply seemed to be out of place. So the question is whether Obsidian, if they consider adding powersuits or mechs, are able to implement it in a manner where it isn't out of place and is believable in the Aliens universe we come to know from the movie of "Aliens".
January 16, 200818 yr Big mechs? No, I hope not... I don't think they'd fit very well. Battlesuits? Well, why not? There's already the power loader after all and some "EU" stories have them as well. Probably shouldn't have a big role, though. Maybe they should only appear at the climatic end battle if there is one. SODOFF Steam group.
January 16, 200818 yr Yeah, I wouldn't expect to see Battletech sized mechs in an Aliens game. Something in the 8 to 10 feet range would not be unheard of. January 16, 200818 yr I own Steel Battalion so I hope that makes my opinion on mechs clear. Hell. Yeah. Even if I do hope that Obsidian takes us on a hellish trip into the very depths of bleak isolation a la System Shock 2 and Aliens vs Predator, I don't mind if they instead stretch their developery legs and do what they want with the franchise. Personally, I would be disappointed if it turns out to be a Deus Ex/Bioshock-set-up with xenomorphs. I know that this is what the vocal majority here want(I wouldn't mind it either), but when there's so much latent potential for unique ideas, the setting being new to rpgs, I will hate it if Obsidian decides to take the oft-travelled road. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. January 16, 200818 yr I think any Aliens game that hopes to be succesful should impliment the ability to capture the different kinds of Aliens in small balls called Alieballs. Then you can train them, and battle them against other people who have caught other Aliens in their own Alieballs. You can travel across the universe catching all the different Aliens, and thwarting Team Weyland-Yutani's evil plans to steal and control all of the Aliens, until finally you make it to the Elite Four and then become Grand Champion. January 17, 200818 yr 90 % of everything with word "mecha" on it is instafail. Tread carefully guys Only mechs ever I've liked are Metal Gears (Eva's don't count as mechs, you know). Additionally, arguing about Evas being mechs or not is even more geeky than those KotoR2 continuity threads. The only game I can think of where mechs actively detracted from the experience is Silent Storm, but then, i'm just bitter. The only game I can think of where mechs actively detracted from the experience is Silent Storm, but then, i'm just bitter. There's nothing to argue about on that matter. No need for geek fights. Script is literate on that. And yeah, I associate mechs with anime pretty much. That's only fair considering that's where mechs originally come from anyway. And in fiction I hate few things more than mecha genre. Of course I'm elitistic prick (not my words :D ) when it comes to anime, but point stands I rather liked Metal Gear Rays (MGS2) though, prolly because of their biomechanical and somewhat reptilian design Of course I haven't played Steel Battallion and such so my contact with mechas in games is pretty limited but otherwise (mostly anime) they fail so hard. There's exception(s?) like FLCL, but mecha parts of show is just for flavour anyway. (Though I suspect I really might enjoy Gurren-Lagann. It's GAINAX after all) Meh, I guess I'm deviating from topic at hand quite much. Edited January 17, 200818 yr by Xard How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective.
