I like them because they let you be the character. And make choices. It's like real life. So I want to know why you like them.

I like RPGs because they're useful for delivering explosives at range in areas I can't send tanks through. Most modern battletanks are immune to them, but when the peasants revolt against my despotic rule, I don't expect them to have modern main battletanks.

I like to explore worlds. Up until recently, the only games that ever let me explore vast spaces of the unknown were RPG's (started back in the day with Ultima, Pool of Radiance, Questron, Wasteland etc..). Nowadays there are even shooters (Boiling Point although some would probably call it an RPG also, Far Cry, Crysis), action adventures (the GTA series mainly) and racing games (Test Drive Unlimited) that let me do these things.

Combine the exploration with a gripping story, memorable characters and a character development system that sits in the background and shuts up (no D&D for me, that is!) and you've got the ingredients to make me drool. Oh, and boobs.

World exploration and character development. I enjoy FPS games a lot for the action, but for the most part they are linear with minmial exploration and your character never gets to be created. My most recent really favorite game, STALKER SOC, managed to combine the FPS stuff that I like along with enough of the CRPG stuff I like to make a game I really enjoyed. I would have enjoyed skills and stuff as well, but hey, what can you do.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

That is what I don't like. You should be able to design your own player character

Well, somebody has to and it might as well be Krookie.

I prefer CRPGs because I ike to create my own character, explore the game world, and have a good gripping story along with it.

I play RPGs because they have often have good stories and dialogue. I play point and click adventures for the same reason.

Have you ever played Runescape? It is a good game, but it has bad graphics. Go to www.runescape.com to play it. I don't know how to make a link

RPGs are great because you can play something you are not and be able to travel in a world that is not your own.

Exploration of environments and a game that isn't 20+ hours of nothing but rounding corners to shoot enemies that pop up from behind wooden crates.

I like RCLs better, they go "boom!" much louder and you can also load them with anti-personel munition

Heck, there's a model of RCL you can load a nuke on.

RPGs are great. You can play the role of someone or something different than what you are. Explore new places, collect a lot of loot and gain the love of many people for saving the day. .
