Meshugger Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 And a video with subpar quality! Linky! I'm fascinated how id keeps revealing their engines at Mac/Apple events. They did that with Doom 3, too. Macs hate DirectX and love OpenGL. Macs are nowadays pretty powerful in terms of hardware. Carmack loves OpenGL and needs the horsepower to show off his new engine, thus a Mac "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy
mkreku Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I'm impressed by Carmack's ability to not lock himself into one dominant OS. He keeps supporting the Mac OS/Linux world by not only developing his games for the monopolistic Direct X world. I LOVE IT!! Doesn't exactly hurt that the guy is a pretty good programmer either.. Apparently the technique used (ClipMaps) isn't brand new: http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~gfx/Courses/20...ing/Clipmap.pdf But it's really interesting! @\NightandtheShape/@ Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Doesn't exactly hurt that the guy is a pretty good programmer either.. He's a bit more than pretty good... Carmack is one of the best programmers the computer games industry has seen to date. Carmack and Sweeny are the two names that spring to mind when I think of 3D engines and the top of the game... Xard Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Wow, sonds great How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them. - OverPowered Godzilla (OPG)

metadigital Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I haven't read up on ClipMap/MipMapping yet, but I'd be interested to see the real advantages ... especially now that the latest GPUs have unified architectures. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

Morgoth Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Crytek > Id Tech 5 No, multi-platform support = insta win. No, better graphix = insta win. The hell, Crytek 2.0 will eventually get ported to consoles, too. Rain makes everything better.

The hell, Crytek 2.0 will eventually get ported to consoles, too. I only care for engines that other developers bother using. If only one game gets released using it (and then a bunch of crappy console spinoffs), then I could really care less about it. Source > * Unreal a close second. Diamond Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 The hell, Crytek 2.0 will eventually get ported to consoles, too. Not to Linux however. That's why DirectX10 = fail. LONG LIVE ID SOFTWARE!
Pidesco Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 There's a Portuguese guy working on Crytek 2.0. Therefore it's the superior engine. mkreku Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Not to be anal or anything, but the engine's name is CryENGINE 2, made by the company Crytek. There's no such thing as Crytek 2.0. I think. http://www.crytek.com/technology/index.php?sx=eng2 Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

Musopticon? Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Ahaha. Ha. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden. It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai. So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds
