Walsingham Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 I picked up this game Shellshock, Vietnam '67 yesterday, largely because I was too fatigued to see straight. It's a rubish game, due to the control and combat interface (filthy console game if you ask me), but it is very stylish. In fact it's so stylish I've decided to go totally Vietnam era with my music this week. I want suggestions on which tunes to listen to. That is name and artist, not just film soundtracks. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
Musopticon? Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Anything by Jimi Hendrix. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden. It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai. So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds

Aram Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Creedance Clearwater made the penultimate Vietnam song, Fortunate Son. Besides the ones already mentioned, just off the top of my head there's also... The Rolling Stones (Satisfaction, etc) The Kinks (You really got me, Waterloo sunset) The Guess Who (Shakin' all over) The Youngbloods (Get Together) The Lovin' Spoonful (Do You Believe in Magic, Summer in the City) The Band (The Weight) The Byrds (Mr Tambourine man, Wasn't Born to Follow) The Stooges (I wanna be your dog) Buffalo Springfield (For what its worth) Martha and the Vandellas (No where to run) Jefferson Airplane (somebody to love, white rabbit) Joe ****er (a little help from my friends) The Moody Blues (Nights in White Satin) Canned Heat (On the Road Again) Johnny Cash (Wanted Man) Crosby Stills and Nash (Suite Judy Blue Eyes) Simon & Garfunkel (Sound of Silence) Steppenwolf (Magic Carpet Ride, Born to be wild) Steve Miller Band (Space Cowboy) The Velvet Underground (I'm waiting for the man, Heroin) Jethro Tull (Aqualung) The Bobby Fuller Four (I fought the law). If that's not enough to to keep you busy, there's still a lot more. It was a pretty big time for music.
Walsingham Posted April 21, 2007 Author Posted April 21, 2007 Nice one, Aram. I was just talking about this to the guys at the corner store and they observed that while we think of these tunes as definitive, the top ten was full of completely different stuff. Made me wonder how much about Vietnam we absorbed from films and artsy types. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. Aram Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 That's a good point. Just quoting some period stuff. I couldn't tell you if it was popular. Universal Soldier by Donovan is another obvious one.

Blarghagh Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 This has probably been mentioned, but I think "Power To The People" by John Lennon is essential to this list.
